Recruiting News - Olympic Sports

Iowa City West distance runner Bailey Nock commits to Coach Wetmore. Love her tweet that shows a picture of her as a little girl dressed in Buff clothes

Welcome and congrats to Ms. Nock!
(Looks like the Buffs have established a nice connection with her high school, as current Buff freshman Valerie Welch (http://www.cubuffs.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=11686), a sprinter/ hurdler/ jumper, also went there.)

Detail on her high school results and times (Athletic.net now requires a (free) registration to see full results, but it looks like the last season's results can be seen without registration.)-
Track and field - https://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=7361742#/L0
(Was a huge point producer for her team last season (as a junior) in the large school (4A) state championships, with 2 individual wins (1500M and 3000M) and a team win (anchoring the middle distance medley relay with her 800M leg), as well as finishing 4th individually in the 800M.)

Cross Country - https://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/Athlete.aspx?AID=7361742#/L0
(She finished 2nd at this season's state championship race in late October after winning it her junior year.)

Just to complete my catch-up postings of athletes we hadn't noted as Buff commits in this thread who were discovered and disclosed briefly in the 2018 Olympic sport signing period thread (https://www.allbuffs.com/threads/20...d-starts-11-8-soccer-2-7-regular-4-11.129780/). Along with nine already known to this thread lacrosse commits, we had one previously unknown commit for 2018 who was formally announced by the team via the below Instagram- midfielder* Kasey Braun. She attends Cardinal Newman HS in Santa Rosa California (which is near where she evidently lives per the Insta, Healdsburg CA). (Also looks like she plays for the BearLax club team (per a past tournament page (http://www.laxtournaments.com/TTTeam.aspx?tid=SAND&year=2016&teamid=CAF99113) I found for that club.)

Again, welcome and congrats to her!

Brief (paragraph) article from her school's website describing her signing with the Buffs - http://www.cardinalnewman.org/page.cfm?p=560&newsid=49

Maxpreps Page (*Doesn't look like her team enters stats, but does confirm that, at least on her HS team, she's a midfielder. Also, the team roster page has her identified as one of three team captains.) - http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/kasey-braun/JVqHatcXEeS-8KA2nzwbTA/default.htm.)

List containing her being named her (North Bay) league's MVP last season (her junior year)- http://www.ysn365.com/news/north-bay-league-girls-lacrosse-all-league-2017/

She was named to US Lacrosse's All-Academic Team after last season - https://www.uslacrosse.org/players/...h-school-awards/2017-girls-high-school-awards

Looks like lacrosse has picked up another verbal commit for 2019 in Attack/ Midfield player Tillie Mintz from, previously, Park City HS in Utah and, it looks like this season, the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. She also plays club ball for the 212 Lacrosse club. (Believe she will be the 1st lax Buff from our nearest neighbor state to the west.)

Welcome and congrats to her!

After a quiet month or so during the holiday season quiet period, thought we'd start to see things pick up recruiting-wise, and looks like soccer has started it off with a 2020 commitment. (My social media searches haven't identified who yet.)

This is the year that the new rule goes into effect about how early you can offer or accept commitments, right? So it might be a slow year for new commitments with the backlog of early commits from the old system. (Assuming I have my timing right on this.)

I hadn't heard about any changes in soccer recruiting. Is there a change there? Or, has the NCAA made a big general change over multiple sports I've missed?

The only Buff "Olympic" sport I know about with major changed NCAA recruiting rules is those made in lacrosse last year. In that sport, it is true that, if I remember correctly, no recruiting*** contact is allowed between a coaching staff and a student- athlete (or with any reps of that recruit (club or high school coaches, etc.)) until September of the recruit's junior year in high school. (***I can't remember for sure, but guess things like summer camps hosted by colleges and so forth are still allowed, BUT assume recruiting can't be discussed during those.)

If this site is accurate, soccer has no off campus contact until junior year, no phone calls, and nothing can be sent in the mail except college brochures (no recruiting materials). https://recruitlook.com/recruiting-calendar/ncaa-division-i-recruiting-rules/soccer/

Hum- interesting. I wonder if the soccer rules are more toothless than the lacrosse rules, and still allow coaches to offer recruits through club and high school coaches. I found this (http://www.ncaa.org/student-athletes/resources/recruiting-calendars) referencing the September 1st of junior year date for 1st contact way back in 2011, and we're still hearing of commits way out in 2021.

Noticed from a tweet or two (from awhile ago) in his football recruit thread (https://www.allbuffs.com/threads/18-wa-wr-daniel-arias-signed-to-colorado.126406/page-6 ) that one of the class of 2018 football Buffs, Daniel Arias, also is planning on running track.

In addition to the welcomes already given to him on the football-side, welcome to him as a Buff track athlete!

His track times (Note- you can see some summary and last season result info for him without membership, but I believe you need a (free) subscription to see full results for all years on athletic.net.) - https://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=7841314#!/L0

(Interesting to me that, unlike what I would assume for a wide receiver (that he would specialize in the shorter sprints), looks like his best results have been in the 400 meters, highlighted by a 2nd place finish in last season's Washington State Championships (2A, 3A, 4A divisions). Assume it might have to do with his great height (6'4") for a WR? (He still has nice PR'S (11.21 for the 100M set his junior year, for example) in the shorter distances.))

Here is the soccer commit from Cherry Creek (just tweeted):

Thanks Nik, and welcome and congrats to Lawson Willis!

Per the below, looks like Ms. Willis is a defender and/ or midfielder.

Her Club (Colorado Rush) page (listed as a defender) - http://rush.ussoccerda.com/sam/teams/index.php?

team=3933980&player=278066925

Her Maxpreps high school stats page (listed as a midfielder) - http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/law...-Oz0u-e-FA/gendersport/girls-soccer-stats.htm

Edit- Wanted to also add what I THINK (???) is her Topdrawersoccer page. (They have her rated as a 3 star defender.) - https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/club-player-profile/jane-willis/pid-103040
(They have her as Jane Willis, but since they're also saying her club jersey # is 44, and she's listed as going to Creek, assume it's the same person.)

For her soccer honors, topdrawersoccer has
"
PDP Invite
U.S. Soccer Training Invite
2016-2017 1st Team All Conference Defense
2014 & 2015 Rush National Select First Team
U13 Colorado Rush Rush Defensive Player of the Year
U13 ECNL Farwest Regional Desert Premier League Champion"

I would put this in somewhat unconfirmed*** status, but at least from a tweet and short release by what looks like her club team (see below), volleyball may have picked up a new 2018 verbal commit in 5'5" defensive specialist (DS)/ libero Taylor DeProsse, who attends Bishop Manogue High School in Reno, NV, and plays her club ball at Nortern Nevada Juniors (NNJ).

(Assuming this is accurate)- welcome and congrats to her!

Club team release - http://www.nnjvball.com/news_article/show/894287?referrer_id=431140

(***Not 100% sure on this one since I have NOT seen any of my usual "sources" (generic #CUin18 tweet from @CUBuffsVB, Rich Kern and/ or prepvolleyball listing, player tweet (her account is private), etc.) confirm this yet.)

What I could find out about her-
(Looks like she has earned more playing time every year, and per the roster on Maxpreps (http://www.maxpreps.com/high-schools/bishop-manogue-miners-(reno,nv)/volleyball/roster.htm) was a team co-captain this past (her senior) season.)

Volleyball getting an incoming DS/Libero would not surprise me at all. Remember that Brynna DiLuzio was recruited as a Libero but she seems to be firmly established as a setter. So, another defensive player is definitely needed.

Per the below tweet, track and field has probably received another (assume still verbal?) commit for 2018 in hurdler (and sprinter) Angel Heredia, who currently attends Hinkley HS in Aurora CO.

Welcome and congrats to him!

His track results - https://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=8510691#!/L0
(Going into his senior outdoor season, he's already a two time defending champion at the 5A State Championships in the 300M hurdles, where last year he also contributed points for his team with a 3rd place in the 110M hurdles and 6th place in the 400M sprint, as well as running a leg on his team's winning 4X200M relay.)

Article on his 300M hurdle win at last year's Championships - https://www.sentinelcolorado.com/sp...leys-angel-heredia-5a-boys-300-meter-hurdles/

I haven't found out who yet but, per tweets from all 3 Buff coaches, looks like volleyball has their 1st high school of Class of 2021 commit.

As often happens, the excellent richkern.com website*** has quickly identified the new 2021 volleyball (verbal) commit (and 1st vball commit for that class), and it looks to be Jahara Campbell, a 6'0"-6'1" (depending on the source) outside hitter/ middle blocker. She attends Mountain Pointe High School in Phoenix AZ, and plays for the Aspire club (15 Rox team this season) volleyball team.

Welcome and congrats to her!

(***As I believe I've mentioned previously, richkern.com, the go-to for lists of volleyball commitments, stats, etc., is largely a premium website. However, it does , for just 3 days, nicely show new commits by class without a subscription. I see Ms. Campbell listed as the new Buff commit right now at http://www.richkern.com/vb/recruits/indexsub.asp?Div=DI&VBYear=2021 .)

Her Maxpreps page - http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/jah...eT-Oz0u-e-FA/gendersport/volleyball-stats.htm
(As a freshman this past season, was already 3rd for her teams in kills at 2.4/ set while hitting at a very good .337 hitting %. And, her team looks to be a good one, as they were ranked #4 in Arizona by Maxpreps.)

A page for her at her club's website - https://www.aspirevb.com/page/show/3829390-jahara-campbell

Per the below tweet from her club, looks like Ms. Campbell was named one of the top 59 in her class ("Frosh 59") in the country in prepvolleyball.com's**** annual list. (****Prepvolleyball.com is the main website that accumulates rankings for prep women's volleyball players by their class, as well as covering pretty much ALL the club volleyball action in GREAT detail.)

Sounds like she has the potential to be really good. Fruits of the Sweet 16 finish last season???

Haven't seen the usual confirming generic #CUin21 tweet from the team yet, but topdrawersoccer is showing a new (2nd for the class) 2021 soccer commitment in defender (and/ or possibly midfielder) Hollynn (and/ or possibly Holly) Hunter.

Welcome and congrats to her!

Hard to find much info on her, or even to be sure what I find IS about her. Couldn't find much regarding a Hollynn Hunter via Google search, but did find some about a young soccer player Holly Hunter. A few things which may or may not be accurate-

Assume the below is related to & a little confirmation for the aforementioned Ms. Hunter's verbal commitment.

From the below tweet, looks like volleyball has picked up a new 2020 verbal commitment. And, per richkern.com, it is 5'11"-6'0" Outside (left-side) hitter/ opposite (right-side) hitter Maya Tabron. She attends Christopher High School in Gilroy, CA, and also plays for the Rage volleyball club.

Welcome and congrats to her!

A few things I could find for her-
Maxpreps page (Looks like no one kept stats for her team this past season, so only stats are from her 2016 (freshman) season.) - http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/maya-tabron/-lywzGKoEea-8KA2nzwbTA/gendersport/volleyball-stats.htm

A club page for her (a little personal info, measurables, etc.) - https://www.ragevball.com/roster_players/22341322?subseason=459017

A Youtube highlight video she posted from one of her club's tournaments earlier this year -

With yesterday being the start of the regular signing period, a new, previously unknown to me track and field commit has been officially announced as being a 2018 Buffalo, namely thrower Taylor Sconce, who currently attends Roseburg HS in the town of the same name in Oregon.

Welcome and congrats to him!

His Athletic.net results page (requires a free subscription to see prior years' marks.) - https://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=4182436#!/L0
(His highlight, among many, looks to be winning the 6A (largest school division) state championships shot put competition last year, where he also placed 3rd in the discus.

The real question is can he play Left Tackle?

As I'd mentioned in post #29 of the 2018 Signing news thread (https://www.allbuffs.com/threads/20...d-starts-11-8-soccer-2-7-regular-4-11.129780/) , there were a couple women future track and field Buffs who's NLI signings were announced via Instagram (also pasted below) a week or so ago, neither of which had been known about previously.

I just wanted to give a little more info on both, but 1st- welcome and congrats again to distance runner Elizabeth Constien and hurdler Kylie Davis, both from Colorado!

A little more on both-
Elizabeth Constien is a senior middle distance/ distance runner at Battle Mountain HS in Minturn. (She may or may not get to be teammates with her older sister Valerie, who is showing on the Buff rosters as a senior in track (where she just had a great steeplechase result) but junior in cross country.)

Her high school cross county history - https://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/Athlete.aspx?AID=7545691#!/L0
(She has been a consistent producer for her team for many years, improving each year at the 4A Colorado State Championships from 9th as a sophomore to 2nd her junior year to winning the individual title this past season. Her team also earned a VERY tough to earn a berth at the NXN Nike Cross Nationals, further surprising some experts by finishing in 3rd place as a team, with Ms. Constien being the 2nd finisher for the team with her 58th place finish.)

Her track and field history - https://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=7545691#!/L0
(Looks to be set up for a strong senior campaign, which is still early on season-wise, as she already set her 3200M PR by ~16 seconds early this month.)

Kylie Davis is a senior hurdler at Regis Jesuit HS in Aurora..

Her high school track and field history - https://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=8508157#!/L0
(Ms. Davis doesn't show many results her junior year, but already contributed to her team's results in the 2016 Colorado 5A state championships with a 4th place finish in the 100M hurdles and finished in 3rd place in the 300M hurdles, and even earned 7th and 8th place finishes in those events as a freshman.)

Just was looking at the CHSAA (Colorado) commit database (http://chsaanow.com/recruiting/2018-database/) , and they're showing the Buff tennis team picking up a 2018 commit from Ky Ecton, who attends Poudre High School in Fort Collins.

Welcome and congrats to her!

A few things I found regarding her-
  • Tried to find verification for her commitment, and did find this Youtube video released by her high school with their April 2018 signers that does show her as committed to the Buffs .-

(The video shows pictures of the various signers at various stages of their lives, with Ms. Ecton's being the 1st Poudre athlete covered by the video.)
