Sandusky update (more evidence against Joe P)

What's even more disturbing is the notion that apparently 2/3 to 3/4 of the jury pool has a direct connection to Penn St. University. One is a student there. Another is an employee. With that many people on the jury with a vested interest in the success of the university, it's hard for me to believe they'll be 100% objective in their assessment of the situation.

Or it could work the other way ... they'll be so pissed at Sandusky for ruining the rep of the university and its hallowed football program, that he won't stand a chance.

I guess I have a lot more faith in the prosecution and the due diligence they must have conducted during voir dire in selecting the jury than I would in Jerry's lawyer ... he seems to be a total idiot.

Don't forget about the other fates at stake here... namely those assholes who are charged with perjury.

Oh ... I haven't forgotten about them ... their day in court is coming.

But given the info that came out yesterday that was linked in my original post ... their goose is fricaseed.

I'd say that constitutes a jury of his peers. They are part of the community and lawyers for both sides have had a chance to vet them. I believe that the jury will follow their instructions from the judge and do what they have been asked to in good faith.

I remember being in a bar on 12/31/1989 in Miami. A guy walks up and asks me if I was a CU fan. I said yes, he said I am a Penn St. fan, you'll never win a National Championship, I know good football. All I can say is, suck it Penn St. fan, wherever you are.....

I dont see anyway in hell Sandusky skates on this, Penn St. jury or not. It would seem they would be in damage control mode, their image has taken its lumps. If the defense wins, I dont think Penn St. does.

I agree. I would punch Ward Churchill in the face if I saw him because of the **** he has caused my employer/school. And Churchill is nowhere near the evil man that Sandusky is.

and then he would go on the warpath...the way only indignant academics can do it...

I would do it while doing a rain dance. He would be conflicted.
I never suspected you for a little Eichmann....

I always wanted one of those wooden indians they used to have outside the cigar shop...that's it, I am going to ask for that for Father's Day....

Just in case anybody else has ever wanted a Wooden Indian for their garage.... http://www.cigarstoreindianstatue.com/CigarStoreIndians.html

You can thank me later...you know who you are...

Not going to happen. A not guilty verdict is not in PSU's interest and the evidence is far too overwhelming. Sandusky will be at the bottom level of hell. And the more details I hear about this case, the closer the PSU administration moves to joining Sandusky.

Also, this guy was on house arrest? WTF.

It's possible they'll ignore the PSU politics and weigh the case based on its merits.

I can believe the sick ****s in the world part... but the fact that there were so many people willing to enable this **** is what disturbs me.

That's what bothers me the most. Not that there are sick f***** like Sandusky; but how could grown men entrusted with looking out for child safety continue to look the other way. I hope Sandusky goes to a max penitentiary and is put in general population. Maybe then he will understand what fear he instilled in these kids. But I also wish the same punishment on those that looked the other way.

The secret file and emails will be used to show a willful pattern of deception and coverup from the university leadership. Lawsuits are gonna be for huge dollars.

An interesting question is if anything in those files and emails will show that the administration was aware of activities that took place as Sandusky took kids across state lines. If so, and the lawyers on the board may wish to comment, this would take this out of the state courts and by transporting a minor across state lines in the commission of a felony put it in federal courts, which would also strip PSU of it's immunity under state law.

I am normally not a person who believes in suing over a lot of the stuff that people take to court but if I'm on the jury for one of these civil suits and I see that these administrators knew and didn't stop this from happening, my answer to how much do we award the victims is how much can we give them.

I would have to look at the federal statutes in order to know... and I'm lazy.

Hey I was in a bar in Miami on 12/31. I was with a hot local blonde who was having a birthday party. Wow, in retrospect, between that and the game, it was a heck of a way to start a decade.

Penn State football program needs some serious penalties. The university did a terrible job of trying to cover this up, from the coaches and university employees, all the way up to the president of the university. If this isn't a lack of institutional control, this term does not exist.

You're confusing legal impropriety with NCAA violations. There are no NCAA regulations that cover this kind of thing. The University needs to have the living hell sued out of it to the point where they can no longer afford to field an athletic program. Hundreds of millions of dollars in liabilities that can never be paid off. This is definitely one of those cases where I favor the use of the legal system. Sometimes, people need to get the living hell sued out of them. This is one of those cases.

Yep. Unless there's a Penn State email relating to how they should handle the Sandusky situation and a justification for sweeping it under the rug is the impact the scandal could have on the football program (recruiting, transfers, donations, etc.)... this is not an NCAA issue.

Isn't that the point of the entire cover up - to save the football program?

Not necessarily. Could be to protect their own skins from it getting out that these things occurred under their watch. People often cover things up that weren't their fault if they think that it getting out might harm their careers.

I tend to look for the simple, selfish motive first.

All parents need to keep in mind that this kind of thing is fairly common and that the perps are usually very believable, seemingly-trustworthy people devoted to helping kids. I recall 4 or 5 coaches in Colorado caught for having sex with kids in the last year - girls primarily - and obviously, churches and boy scout type programs have had huge problems. There was a study recently, who knows how authoritative it was, that concluded the incredibly graphic pornography available all over the 'net is pushing these bastards to greater extremes. Protect your children, do not trust anyone without a very good basis.

sandusky is facing 400 years if convicted on all counts. A few days before trial there were plea agreement discussions. What kind of offer did he turn down, in order to spend 3 weeks in Hell, in front of that jury and the world? As an attorney, my guess is 100 - 150 years if he pled.
