Sefo health update

I'm with ya. Trust me I have had my fair share of ankle sprains with basketball. It sometimes can be worse than just breaking your ankle. I just am getting the vibe it is a mild sprain. Even with a mild sprain it hurts like hell right away and that's probably why he had to come out.

Pain wouldn't have been the reason he came out. I suspect that the muscles there pretty much shut down from the trauma and wouldn't fire -- no strength to push off to either run, pass or get to a handoff on time. Could heal quickly. Might be too weak for a while.

I have rollled my ankle many times, sprained my ankle quite a few times, and even didn't know I broke it until about a decade later. Liufau was able to walk on it which means he has a chance to go this Saturday. He's getting treatment that we wish we got when we hurt our ankles like that.

The question is how well he will run and how much that affects his game.

Although pre-injury we were seeing Sefo 2.0, I wasn't a fan of a less-than-100% Sefo 1.0. He's been hurt several times and I can't remember him being effective previously while hobbled.

If Sefo plays I would expect a lot of quick passes to the edge and a heavy dose of Lindsay, set up some deep shots but Sefo's mobility will be limited and they will try to avoid risking a lot of contact

Montez I would expect more designed QB runs and a more limited passing game, maybe more roll out stuff with a simple pass run option to reduce his decision making.

Sprained ankles are funny. I am sure everyone has had some type of ankle injury that has played any type of physical sport. Every single one is different. I've had ones that took me a good 6 months to recover, to ones that only took a week or so.

With the treatment you receive now-a-days, you can come back in a week or two, where it would take any regular person months to recover. The biggest issue I see is our Run-Option offense with Sefo. If he is not 100%, he won't be running the ball and that takes a big chunk of our offense out. Whether we want to believe it or not, its a big part of our offense and I really think opens up other parts of the offense.

Either way, you trot out Sefo if he can at least not be a negative for the offense.

This is all true I have had everything from a simple roll of the ankle to a complete dislocation of the foot. That one blew up like a basketball, so swollen they didn't bother to wrap it since it was completely immobile. I never had the high ankle sprain (maybe wasn't a good enough athlete to get one) but I know they tend to be painful and slow to heal.

As tough as Sefo is if it was a minor one he never would have come off the field. Now it is a question of pain tolerance and also what kind of mobility he has, also can he throw off it without disrupting his throwing motion.

As long as he's not putting himself at risk by being unable to move in the pocket, I agree. As we saw with the Broncos late last season, having a veteran QB who is the acknowledged leader of the offense out there running the huddle and getting into good situations on audibles, it outweighs being able to throw the ball on a rope. So if Sefo's main limitation Saturday is that he can't fit the ball into tight windows (and he accounts for that in his decisions) along with not being able to run much zone read, then I bet that MacIntyre plays him.

Sefo will play Saturday regardless. Book it.
Upset win on the road for MMac's first road signature win. Book it.
Ok, danno.

I don't know who said it earlier, but I like the idea of letting Montez practice with the ones this week and next; start Sefo if at all possible this week, but plan on a short game for him with OSU.

With two weeks of practice with the ones, I feel confident with Montez against the beavers.

But I want Sefo in there this week.

Don't they have a shot cocktail that makes the ankle just like new?
Can't they just chop off one of Gehrke's ankles and sew it onto the bottom of Sefo's leg?

Better yet, take one of Askia Booker's, I feel like he owes a lot to the university.

"Better then he was yesterday"....meaning he actually was up and putting weight on it, running around carefully? Or yesterday we had to carry him to the golf cart and today he was able to hobble/hop to it himself? Lot's of grey area in Mac's statement - probably intentional.
