I think he knows he’s getting fired and he wanted nothing to do with Shedeur soooo. Shedeur will get his chance, just not until the HC is firedGiven how things have transpired, you're probably right.
This is how I see it playing out as well.I think he knows he’s getting fired and he wanted nothing to do with Shedeur soooo. Shedeur will get his chance, just not until the HC is fired
Without the Vikings scoring an offensive TD
If SS demonstrates he's the best QB on the team (even if it happens next year), I would think Stefanski refusing to play him this season would reflect poorly on the coach and damage future opportunities as either a HC or OC.I think he knows he’s getting fired and he wanted nothing to do with Shedeur soooo. What Pate is saying is (I think) that Stefanski isn't a believer in SS, never wanted him, and thinks if he ever plays him it will affect his career worse than just getting fired. He'd rather ride DG into the sunset of this job. Who knows why; it could be influenced by his peers, his agent, whatever. If SS demonstrates he's the best QB on the team, I would think Stefanski refusing to play him would reflect poorly on the coach and damage future opportunities as either a HC or OC.
Your take implies he has a motivation stronger than career self interest.
We’ll see if he can sustain it. Gabriel was always going to get 4-5 starts no matter how he looked. The tape will be out on him after today and other teams will be able to gameplan.Welp, Gabriel looks good. We won't see Shedeur behind C in a Browns uniform...how many of those jerseys did he sell?!?!
Played well enough to win.Gabriel didn’t give Stefanski a reason to bench him. He did just fine. But he also had a 5.8 YPA. That’s pretty garbage purely from a statistics standpoint. He will get worse as teams see more film on him.
And played poorly enough to lose. And the Vikings aren't exactly a dominant team right now.Played well enough to win.

Right. That’s why I said he played fine. But he will get worse as more film is available imoPlayed well enough to win.
Scoreboard!Played well enough to win.
They can’t run their offense with max protect for every play. We’ll see if he can sustain it. Gabriel was always going to get 4-5 starts no matter how he looked. The tape will be out on him after today and other teams will be able to gameplan.

He didn't screw up, but I wasn't impressed. 1 dropped interception, another close. A pass batted at the line and caught out of bounds. So-so on scrambles. His height is a killer. In fairness to Gabriel this was his first start as a rookie and it sounds like he was soli
In fairness to Gabriel it sounds like he was adequate and mistake free, which is all you can ask for from a rookie in his first start. Most NFL rookie QBs don't do well in their first regular season start. Stefanski will likely stick with him for at least a few games if not more unless he starting doing really bad.
They were in max protection for most of the game on passing downs. The run game was cooking. Once they had to open up the offense further, he was serviceable but not good.In fairness to Gabriel this was his first start as a rookie and it sounds like he was soli

Watch them elevate Bailey ZappeBrowns are trading Flacco - so I guess he gets to be #2 now
Yeah that’s good for him.Browns are trading Flacco - so I guess he gets to be #2 now
Tells you how little they think of Flacco's capabilities when the Browns are willing to trade their former QB1 to their most hated division rival.Browns are trading Flacco - so I guess he gets to be #2 now
They saw that they can lose with Gabriel playing the same way they can with Flacco and this way, they can focus on DG and SS getting the reps. Having a vet in the room was conventional wisdom, but they probably should have just done this 6 weeks agoI think that the Flacco trade says as much about their confidence in Gabriel/Shedeur as much as it does about how shot they perceive Flacco to be by trading in the division.
