Shedeur Sanders - 2023-25 Tracking History Thread - Drafted by the Cleveland Browns (NFL)

Somebody needs to pull this idiot to order.
(Forgive my language)
I was proud of how he was conducting himself at Cleveland’s mini camp.
He was working hard, was humble and saying all the right things.
Now this…..
And for now, he is an (idiot) in my eyes. He knows the bright lights are on him and these are the type of decisions he is making?
One thing those that advocated for him could hang their hat on was that unlike Manziel, he did not break the law, did not drink or do drugs.
But if he begins to go down this road, the Browns should cut him cos obviously he has not learned anything from the draft fiasco.
Thanks for the deep dive. It was stupid, that's it. You need to touch grass.

I'm not going to condone or defend. Shedeur is being stupid and harming his situation. Also, speeds that are getting dangerous for his community. But I would also like to say that maybe people are overreacting to a story that basically amounts to "guy in his early 20s gets 2 speeding tickets."

Appropriate would be a similar or less reaction to what happened when Lebron was speeding at a similar age or any other young athlete in the area.

I would guess that the reaction to these event are probably directly in line with how the individuals thought of Shedeur prior. Those who like him consider it a mistake but nothing worth a big deal, those who already didn't like him think this is reason to kick him out of town.

If his last name was Smith instead of Sanders it wouldn't be something anyone outside of the immediate area even hear about.

I'm not defending his actions, but Christ you're whiny

40,000 americans die every year in automobile crashes. speeding exponentially increases the likelihood of killing a person with your car. you cannot speed like that and also take care of human life. the videos of him being a great guy around kids last weekend and his general vibe are hugely positive, but driving a huge truck with a front end designed to kill people at speeds guaranteed to kill people is the most overlooked psychopathic behaviour in american society. (and, whatever, if you're rich as f*ck and have a mentality that makes you speed...carry your license, pay for the max insurance, have a lawyer on retainer, and suck it up when you get popped for being a big dummy........ or just rent out a race track every weekend so you can get your rocks off without endangering people trying to live their own lives)

With as tenuous as his position is, it's ****ing stupid. Its a bad look rn, especially with Ruggs back in the news... 2 has to be smarter than that...

The last thing professional organizations want is to have to address bad behavior of its employees. The Broncos axed a long time coach because his bad behavior was splashed all over the news. SS slipped in the draft partly because teams didn’t want to deal with the drama they perceived he might bring. Now this.

as a CU psych grad, I would note:
His nickname was "grown" because of his maturity, shown at an early age.
He doesn't drink or do drugs.
He never, that I know, had a single speeding ticket in Boulder.
He gets 2 with 2 weeks in Cleveland, 1 major.

I said his action was 'dumb' in an earlier post. I withdraw that comment and apologize.
The man is under a lot of stress, and this is a 'shouldn't be allowed' form of relief for him.
Maybe a little confidential video counseling, with a trusted CU hand is in order. Sometimes we need help in understanding our situation and options.

If you have a 247 subscription, there is a +/-100 page thread where Clevelanders take a dump on Shedeur and CU.

Adam has become such a **** moderator at this point. Just mailing it in.
The current administration at CU means he gets almost no scoop or access and that if he says anything that they don't like or reports something they don't want reported (too soon or not wanted revealed at all) he loses what he has.

I am certain that he loves that he's finally getting to cover a winner and that the board he publishes is much higher in the 247 pecking order. He's also more in demand to be contacted by other media. That's all great for his career. But there's a lot that has made it less fun and less possible to do the job he'd like to do (and would be a reasonable expectation on his part). With that, I'm sure he has decided to be mostly hands off with moderation to let the members have their fun and stay engaged with the site.

I know those things to be true, but he really never engages the board, and the analysis videos with William Gardner aren’t going well. There is only so many times people want to hear the same guy forget names and provide milquetoast commentary. Adam is a good guy, but he’s slipping in my opinion. Better to hear it from a friendly critic than someone else.

I canceled my buffstampede subscription. Is this on the CU 247 site or just the main 247 forum?

It’s on the CU 247 site as a merged thread between CU fans and Cleveland Browns fans.

Cleveland fans appear to want Shedeur, a player they just drafted, to fail, despite the fact that the last decent QB they had was Brian Sipe.

And then I remembered reading a recent study that showed Cleveland was the least happy city in the U.S., so it tracks.

Might change your post to say "some of the Cleveland fans appear to want Shedeur to fail."

There are also a lot of Cleveland fans on the other side who want Shedeur to be the draft steal that a lot of people think he is.

I haven't read that thread, don't have access, but would almost guarantee that the Browns fans who are posting are the ones who hated Shedeur even before the draft, they just hate him because of who they think he is without knowing who he is.

And yes if I had to live in the "Mistake by the lake" I would be less than happy as well. If my local team, the team I follow, was as inept as the Browns have been for so long I as well might have become cynical and negative, much easier to deal with anticipated failure than get your hopes up only to have them repeatedly crushed.

If that was the case and Smith was a 5th round pick his best option may be the practice squad. It is a knife that cuts both ways. If someone would have been killed this would be a whole different story.

This is stupid and he has a lot to risk. If he is a stud QB, then it will all be forgotten, but if he is not then teams don't want a problem in the Backup position. This also plays into the hater narrative that he thinks he is entitled.
Either way, Smith or Sanders, his future will be determined based on how he performs.

It was a stupid thing and fortunately nobody was killed or hurt.

Point is though that young men in the NFL do stupid things every year, every team. Most of the time as soon as the cop knows it's a player for their team they get a pass, and that often includes things much dumber and more dangerous than this.

Consider that the team he plays for traded three (3) first round picks for a QB, and gave him a record contract, after he had been accused by multiple women of rape. If he is a stud as you say no issue, if he is less than a stud but shows potential to be a solid contributor it won't be an issue. If he is marginal then it might cost him a job but even then he will probably get at least another shot with another team.

The only reason this is even news outside of a couple days on the Cleveland talk shows is that his last name is Sanders. As long as he doesn't continue to show bad judgement it will become a nothing incident.

I wouldn’t say that. It has to be hard being basically left out on any recruiting scoop. And due to the transfer portal I don’t pay attention to HS recruiting anymore. They’ll probably just transfer anyway and can easily be replaced

I find myself checking the board a lot less, mostly due to the latter
