Shedeur Sanders - 2023-25 Tracking History Thread - Drafted by the Cleveland Browns (NFL)

Shedeur = 2 TD's, zero turnovers, better QBR with 2nd and third string offensive players going against 1st string defense.

Gabriel = 2 turnovers (including a pick 6), with the first and second string offense going against 2nd and 3rd string defense.

Stepanski = "Im not going to compare them, they both did good things". Sounds like the furor, when he said the KKK violence and a truck that drove through a peaceful protest killing people "are good people on both sides". Shedeur has no chance with this clown at the helm. Please trade Shedeur 🙏 to a team that needs and will appreciate a winning QB.

He looked better than a clipboard carrier to me even if he is mainly just that in this league. I see him getting at least 5 starting seasons and even a pro bowler once in his career.
If Dillon Gabriel makes a pro bowl during his career, I’ll get a full chest portrait tattoo of his face. I’m that confident he will never make a pro bowl.

I am talking about Dillon. He can be a solid QB in this league. Even a pro bowler in an optimal season. That's not anytime soon but it could happen. He's just not going to be a QB anyone invest any real money in long term but he will make a good salary as a high end reserve.
If you make a pro bowl, or even if you win Gabe’s, someone is going to pay you money you have no business making.

Examples: Brick Purdy…Daniel Jones

I’m not even going to change that typo.

I don't see him as a guy who has the ability to overcome his faults. His size is an issue and he isn't special enough to overcome it. He doesn't have the other special characteristics.

Not saying they are the same QB but at best his ceiling would be a Trevor Siemian. a starter you want to replace and definately one who won't carry you to contention. I don't think he reaches that level. I also don't see him as a 3rd rounder but backup QBs can be valuable enough that if he is a solid long-term roster guy the pick won't be wasted.
What is the standard for super high end back up?

Case Keenum?

A guy who, if you give him weapons can absolutely get you to the playoffs.

It might be time for a little break from the internet (and also using a full quote on things)

If I’m trying to build an org, I think it makes sense to keep both of them and use this season to find out if you hit on either of them. Gabriel’s cap hit averages around $1.5mm over the next four years. Shedeur’s averages around $1mm. Not that much different.

If you can get a franchise QB out of one of those picks, you’re at a big advantage. You use your 2024 picks to build around him. If neither are viable, you draft Arch.

But you’re not going to find that out in the preseason.
I’d argue that you can definitely find out if someone can’t play in the league in preseason. In this case, throwing a pick six against very vanilla preseason defenses is a bad sign. The completion percentage was a good sign. I don’t see any throws that made me say wow though.

Keenum has had multiple years when teams thought he was going to be their answer as a starter. I don't see that level for Gabriel. I see Gabriel as a guy who to get a team to the playoffs would need some other elements carrying the team, a killer defense and a top running game for example. And even with that not be likely to get past the first or second round.

Keep in mind making this promise that Trevor Siemian did make a pro bowl while he was the Broncos starter. Did it as something like the 3rd or 4th alternate but he can claim a pro bowl on his record

Do you think Brock Purdy is a high level starter?

Did you think Daniel Jones was worth $40 mil a year?

I’m curious what you don’t agree with
Brock is good. He's been consistent too. Saying he's some guy who got a payday because he got a lucky pro bowl is not accurate and makes me question your judgment.

Seems like he is a perfect fit for what Lil' Shanny wants to do on offense. Doesn't have to be one of those guys who impresses with his raw ability but he is really good running that system and executing the decisions they way they need to be.

He’s mid, but my argument is that teams overpay for a starting QB.

The market isn’t “what did the last starter get paid”

Like…if Patrick Mahomes gets $50 million a year, that’s the market for Patrick Mahomes…

A Brock Purdy shouldn’t be making anywhere near that.

I agree with this, but that’s just not how the NFL works. Granted, there are different levels and to it and I think Purdy is a couple tiers lower than the top 3-5 guys, but I do think tier 2 guys like Hurts, Herbert, Stroud, etc will warrant tier 1 QB money because those franchises have no shot without them, even if they aren’t quite as good as the tier 1 guys

This is correct.

It isn't a matter of if guy A is as good as guy B who just got $50 million per. It is simply a matter of if your team has a legitimate shot at the Super Bowl with guy A and doesn't have that shot without him.

Finding a QB who actually gives you a shot at the Super Bowl is so difficult that teams have no choice but the pay the going ceiling when they have one. These guys are rare enough that even the guys who are the "might be good enough" get a second, and also arguably crazy high level because no matter how good the rest of your roster is in the current NFL without the QB you don't have a shot. If their team doesn't pay them some other team gladly will. Look at what Denver was willing to pay Wilson and Cleveland was willing to give Watson just to have the hope of having a QB who could get them close.

Purdy has plenty of faults. The eye test tells you that he isn't Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, Burrow. The simple fact though that he has taken his team to one Super Bowl and another NFC Championship Game in which an Purdy injury contributed to the Niners losing means he is a Super Bowl level QB. There are few enough of those that he gets paid.

I’m watching the Browns YouTube documentary on the QB battle, and it’s really interesting to watch. But it’s hilarious when they have interview scenes with Flacco. You can clearly tell that man does not give a **** and would rather do anything else than be answering questions about a QB battle.

Don't know if he has changed his attitude but in 2019 when Flacco was with the Broncos and the drafted Drew Lock, Flacco made it very clear that he was in Denver to play QB, not to be a mentor or help develop somebody to eventually replace him. He wasn't hostile about it but left no doubt about how he felt.

The Rams have a huge opportunity to get him if the Browns are too stupid to sort out there problem. That is the optimum place where a circus is a gold mine

Flacco said he was not at the Browns to mentor anyone. I felt like he wanted to channel Dazed and Confused and say “I’m here to drink some beer and kick some ass.”
