I think the Browns came into the pre-season thinking they would be able to trade either Pickett or Flacco for draft value depending on who won the job.
This off-season has been unusual compared to prior years in that we haven't seen a single established starting QB suffer a significant injury making a team desperate. At the same time Pickett has been injured and hasn't had a chance to show anyone why they would want him.
It also looks pretty clear that Stefanski wasn't planning on having Shedeur on his team. Gabriel was their guy (even though nobody else had him projected anywhere close to the 3rd round. His attitude has shown that he isn't thrilled about having Sanders in the race. Despite statements to the contrary it looks like Shedeur was Haslan's pick.
Stefanski has put himself in a tough position. He doesn't want Shedeur and has convinced himself that Gabriel can be his guy but if he doesn't give Shedeur a reasonable shot and the Browns keep losing he likely won't be the Browns coach at the end of the year.
