Shedeur Sanders - 2023-25 Tracking History Thread - Drafted by the Cleveland Browns (NFL)

I got nothing. He was in a pretty bad situation. I’m not sure any QB would’ve been very successful. Pretty obvious to me that Gabriel was going to have to lose his spot on the depth chart and Shedeur wasn’t going to be able to win it if Gabriel didn’t blow it.
Gabriel played like an Oregon check down QB, but you can tell he would never ever win you a last minute game
Just a terrible situation dropping to 5th round, and then getting picked by the worst possible franchise

This was one of those 3 for 10 games where you are happy with that. But 3 for 6 with 5 sacks. That's tough to swallow. 3 sacks probably could have been throwaway. The 3rd drive sacks were terrible. First one should have been a throwaway which he would have learned from week 1.

2nd one was DOA but he had a chance to throw it away but he was still looking to create and ended up with a 24 yard sack. Can't do that!

3rd one was a coverage sack. He needed to just get it out and throw it away.

He didnt leave any completions out there. Even the drop should have been caught. That said, nothing was there. Just take what the defense gives you and if that's a throwaway, throw it away. You don't have Horn, Wester, Hunter, or Sheppard. You playing with guys who will be with us next week. KYP

Cam Newton or a running QB would be fine. But a pocket passer would be food. Rams QB was food for the most part with the 3rd stringer OL as well.

The problem is, a bunch of bums who will be unemployed this week were blocking for him. Also, the WR's will also be unemployed. Flacco and Gabriel had real NFL players blocking and running routes. The Cleveland Browns organization is breaking Shedeur down. F.... the Browns.

The GM said today, he intends to keep 4 QB's on the roster. They need to let Shedeur go to a team where he is given a realistic shot (i.e. New Orleans).

Sadly, he could very well be out of the League tonight. Tebowed.

Gabriel has a very punchable face. There. I said it.
His lack of height adds to it but he looks like a guy who should be starting at QB for a freshman or JV team, not an NFL team. He also comes across as one of those people who has a smug attitude, without having done anything to earn the right to be smug about. So yes, a punch to the face might do him some good.

I understand why Shedeur would be pissed. He was setup to fail today. That said, you can't make it worse. 5 sacks when 3 of them could have been avoidable. I am on the fence with the one he could where he fumbled. He should have held the ball better but the TE was covered from his view and when he got open in 12 view, the EDGE rusher got the sack and strip.

Shedeur made a 3 for 10 game with a potential to possibly be 5 for 10 into a 3 for 6, awful 5 sack day. He definitely looked like the BYU game again. The Rams mainly played zone too. Shedeur usually kills zone too. Today would have been a good day even with a leaky OL with Gage, Bond, Davis, Thrash, and Johnson. But with Cota and other bums. He needed the OL to give him more time than he needed week 1 and they couldn't. Matt M says it best. Shedeur can do everything when he doesn't have to do everything. When he has to do everything. He has some awful plays trying to play hero ball.

ARE YOU FVCKING KIDDING RIGHT NOW?

FVCKING TWAT.

You’re the one who says he’s out of the league but we’re the reactive ones.

It’s unlikely, but if the Browns just decide to cut him, there may not be teams willing to deal with the Shedeur fans and drawing massive attention to QB2/3.

IMO, it’d have to be a team with an obvious entrenched starter.

It’s my opinion based on what I have seen so far. I don’t like the current circumstances at all. I never ever thought this would be the way it unfolded pre-draft. If team after team passed on him in the draft, what team now wants him as QB3? I guess, based on their comments, the Browns plan to keep four QBs. Yikes.

Listened to the ESPN Radio show and they were laughing at Shedeur and the Browns. They believe that what has happened so far proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Shedeur does not even belong in the NFL. They admit that he is in the worst possible position, but the fact that he played so poorly today, especially going backwards and giving up 20+ yard sacks. The momentum is way against him right now and he looked super downtrodden. Likely a bit banged up, likely knowing he never ever even had a chance to play with GOOD NFL players, especially Jeudy and the offensive weapons, not to mention the OL.

Not sure where he goes from here, this should never have happened, but it did.

Pray he can make some lemonade out of these sour ass lemons

Hate to even think it because it means that the powers that be in the NFL cost him millions of dollars but if Shedeur ends up out of the league this year it may mean that he has to go the same route that Warren Moon did and go to Canada.

If you remember, some of us are old enough to, there were no established Black QBs in the NFL when Warren Moon came out of college. There was no question that he was if not the top QB prospect he was one of them but nobody in the NFL was willing to commit to letting him play QB. A couple of teams even told him they would draft him in the early rounds if he would be willing to play WR, he was a good enough athlete to do it.

Ironically enough Gramblings Dough Williams in the same year became the first Black QB to be drafted in the 1st round. His success openned the door for Moon to come back to the NFL . Houston won the bidding war for him and he came back to easily prove that he was an NFL level QB becoming the first player to be in both the Canadian and US football Hall of Fame.

Shedeur would thrive in the Canadiam game. His accuracy and his effectiveness on mid to mid-deep routes would make him a natural in the more wide open game. Once he again proves that he belongs it would be hard for some struggling team (like Houston was for Moon) to ignore him.

Don't want to see that happen but it would be a way for him to overcome the obvious issue that is going on.

That’s my fear as well and why I didn’t like the Eric Dickerson claims. The less drama around Shedeur the better. IMO.

I don’t know if you all saw the same broadcast, or it it was just local to SoCal, but the Rams GM, Les Snead, was being interviewed on the play where Shedeur scrambled around and Cleveland had an illegal man downfield. Without missing a beat, Snead commented something like “And that’s what happens when you have a QB who goes off script.”

Full article is behind a paywall but the first 2 paragraphs say it all. This is from a Browns beat reporter

CLEVELAND, Ohio — With rumors swirling that the Browns will trade Kenny Pickett or waive Shedeur Sanders, the Browns have never wavered in their plan to keep all four QBs.

That means that Joe Flacco, Pickett, Dillon Gabriel and Sanders will all still be on the 53-man roster when the cuts are made Tuesday by 4 p.m.

This feels like BYU where it was so bad, just a major negative. He had too many negative plays. They set him up for failure but you have to kill dead plays.
Agree with this. At Jackson he was able (with the help of some others who normally wouldn't be playing at an HBCU) to dominate with talent, he got away with some things by being better. At CU his heroics got them in trouble but also gave them a chance in some games that they otherwise wouldn't have.

In the NFL everyone has talent, everybody can make plays. If you look at the Broncos one of the big reasons that Payton loves Nix is that while he has the raw talent to make big plays he rarely pushes it. Instead he rarely leaves his team in bad situations, he doesn't turn the ball over and he doesn't make negative plays. An incomplete pass or even a loss of 2 or 3 is far better than losing more than 15 yards on a deep sack and leaving a 3rd and 20+. Through the pre-season including in the reports from practice Shedeur has been making the decisions that don't cost his team.

Seems like today he reverted. Wonder if he was overall frustrated, frustrated to not be given the opportunity for 1st/2nd team practice reps, to play with guys who were going to be on the team, to have plays called that gave him an opportunity to have success, by having guys dropping balls that were in their hands.

He had a knickname at CU "Grown" implying a maturity and he did some things to earn that. If he wants to succeed in the NFL, even with the barriers that have been put in front of him he needs to show that maturity.

I watched every game at Jackson. We didn't see the drifting because he barely would drop back in the pocket. He actually created issues doing the Mayfield at OU not moving in the pocket. He learn quickly that he would get crushed doing that at CU and then we started seeing the super drops which creates it's own problems. Apart of me is happy he experienced the good and bad at CU but the problem is, the bad has to get limited. I never expect elimination. I just want it limited. Mahomes had terrible habits at TT due to the situation. He limited it. It still comes back but it's limited

He played so much smarter in that first game, sucks to get hurt and then play terrible in 3rd game.

Getting cut would be better or someone trading for him and giving Cleveland a 7th Rounder

The good side is that he is young and he can change, he is a very intelligent guy and if given the serious coaching he needs and deserves can modify his game to something that works. The Mahomes example is a good one. Josh Allen is another, a guy who came into the league with plus talent levels but some very bad habits that he has since put in check.

I like the Browns personnel (starting) for Shedeur but he got an uphill battle as his lack of game management and versatility isn't something I think KS likes. But Shedeur is a pure playmaking, excellent scrambler, and tremendous pocket passer so his upside is high. That said, being a poor game manager is an issue. Anticipation throws is an issue and likely always will be since he's like Peyton, he's a feel thrower but Peyton is a damn computer, knows what every defense is doing to an extremely high degree. Shedeur is very intelligent and has the pre snap vision but he would need to elevate his post snap reads to get to that level.

Shedeur has a clear path to superstardom but he also has a clear path to bustland.

I don't expect him to be versatile. I don't expect game manager to ever even get to an average level for him since he hates that ****.

I know he will never be a balanced, mobile or running QB because of his lack of acceleration and mediocre agility even if he's tremendous at COD and straight line speed.

Hes going to have to become elite by going from an elite PP prospect to an elite PP player. That's a lot of mental development. He needs to master KS scheme. He needs KS to coach Shedeur to win, not just bull**** with plays and personnel like he did today.

The Browns got the personnel. The defense is legit. They have the starting TEs. The have variety of WRs even if they aren't that good. The running game is wack right now but it has potential.

Shedeur has to lock in. Being a scout team QB is great. This is where Brady shined. He learned the mental side of the NFL. For Shedeur, it will be critical.

Shedeur can be elite. 4 elite traits. His negative traits only really show in terrible situations. It flash in blowouts but it rarely does when his situation is decent at best. I said it during the process I wanted him in the WCO. It's best him long term. What we saw was he paid a price for the feet today. We didn't see it two weeks ago. I think the feet will at times have issues but we need to continue to see playmaker Shedeur. Just limit hero ball Shedeur.

the O line protection when SS was playing reminded me of his 1st year at CU. He's great when he has a little time, but shifts into the wrong gear mentally, when there's heavy pressure.
