Spring Football Schedule (Some changes coming)

So the decision on media and fan policy with practices shouldn't be left up to the head coach?
Most coaches would choose "no thanks". So no.

Rick George has to really revamp what is going on in this area, as well as the things we blame Plati for. They are not fan-friendly as an AD. Hiring ex-Denver Post guys to control the message is a disaster. Fix it!

Howell's opening remarks to start his Buffzone chat today:

Just quick FYI, CU has - for now - changed the dates of spring football. It is now slated to start on Feb. 23, not Feb. 16. And, the spring "showcase" is no longer the end of spring drills. The Buffs will have three practices after that, wrapping up March 23. Also, there might a chance of some open practices, as CUBuffs.com now says, "it has not been determined what practices will be open to the public and media."

FWIW, Howell mentioned in his chat this week that MM told him "I don't know, probably not" when asked about more practices being opened up.

SIAP, but are we going to get an actual game or just some Oklahoma drills and a 20 minute 7-7 scrimmage again?

This will determine whether I go this year. Not that anybody cares.

No indication MM is looking to change much from the past. Calling it the "Spring Showcase" is probably not a good sign for people wanting to see a game.

Yeah, because that extra 20 minutes of meaningless drills is going to be the difference between 6 and 7 wins next year.

SMFH.

Good article by Wilner, pretty dead on. Not sure we have to replace 8 defensive starters though. I think he's misinformed there.

Jackson, McCartney, Oliver, Moeller is about all I come up with. Otherwise, pretty fair assessment.

Laugda, Jackson, Oliver, McCartney. I wouldn't really consider Moeller a starter.

Offense: Lindsay, Ross, Kough, Irwin, Huckins, Fields, Bobo
First line replacements:
1. McMillan for Lindsay: seems even to me or almost as good
2. Nixon, Shenault and Ento for Ross, Fields and Bobo: numbers are scary but not anything to be worried about IMO.
3. Miller, Sherman and Pursell for Irwin, Huckins and Kough: Irwin hurts but not bad at the other two spots

Second line replacements:
1. RB: Fontenot steps out of his redshirt year to go along with one of the better RB prospects in a while with Smith. Lee, Bisharat and Evans can fill small roles IMO.
2. WR: Brown, Bell, Jackson, Thomas and Arias seem like good depth pieces that can be managed well in terms of who redshirts and who doesn't.
3. OL: Depth doesn't seem nearly as bad as last year but is still young. 2 from the group of Moretti, Polley, Ray, Haige, Fillip will need to step up.

Defense: Jackson, Laguda, Oliver, McCartney

Fist line replacements
1. Franke/Tuiloma for Jackson: downgrade but nothing that can't be managed with a better rotation which coaches have hinted at already in the off season.
2. Fisher for Laguda: downgrade in physicality but probably an upgrade in athleticism. Laguda was always one of my favorites to watch so I might be biased. Fisher has plenty of ability though if he can stay healthy.
3. Abrams/Udoffia for Oliver: definite downgrade but there is some solid depth at this position
4. Falo/Sparaco/Callier/Tchangam for McCartney: I actually like this switch up this year with more of a pass rush ability and Sparaco can provide more physicality.

Second line replacements:
1. DL: Guys like Lang, Johnson, Antwine and hopefully Umu can provide a lot better depth than last year when the starters get worn down
2. Safety: sketch as hell at the moment, Maddox is a really good recruit but injured so one of the CBs will likely need to move over for depth since I don't think you can expect much out of Sanchez and Trego as this point in their careers. A grad transfer would really, really help but seems unlikely because there are two senior starters.
3. CB: lots of depth and skillsets here. Blackmon has the quickness to match up with some slot guys while George has great size and Miller is a good combo.
4. OLB: Seems like some quality young depth with Wells stepping into the fold after his freshman year.

Overall it is pretty crazy how much the depth has improved compared to last year which could really help if the coaches use it. Should make for an interesting spring and hopefully a more scrimmage intense spring showcase. It is always awesome to watch the young guys and this year there are plenty of them coming off a redshirt year that could take a big step.

Good post, but vehemently disagree about the depth at OL, or at least at OT. It looks pretty bad, maybe even non-existent, at the moment.
Sorry if the post came across that way, definitely didn't intend to. I said Irwin would hurt but personally I have no problem throwing guys like Kaiser Polley, Haige, Lytle at the inside spots if we have injuries. Fillip seems like the only replacement at tackle if things go poorly but last year it seemed like there weren't any options at any of the spots and the ones that were forced were mismanaged.

I assume you mean Paige.

Miller, Haigler, Kaiser, Vaughn, Moretti, Paige, Fillip with possibly Polley or Ray as OTs I imagine.

Prepare yourself to hear that the OT's are doing awesome or the pass rushers are unblockable. On second thought, we will learn nothing much this spring. Bring on the Rams I guess.

I think the inside will be potentially be good to very good. I actually like a lot of the pieces there.

I am scratching my head about OT though. Do we have two competent Pac-12 tackles, let alone any depth?

We really need Haigler to regain his 2017 form.

I am definitely a beliver in Haigler at tackle but if they continue to trot him out there at guard then I don't think he will be nearly as effective. Obviously the coaches need to be looking around for grad transfers in the next month or two because it has disaster written all over it.

Maybe reading too much into it but that quote from Mac about Donovan Lee sure seemed like a "you need to prove you can be part of this team this spring" to me. The first thing he mentioned was he is close to graduating lol.
