Texas State Game Week (Official Thread)

There's not a lot out there on them. Looks like they graduated a 4 year starter at QB, and replaced him with a grad transfer from Mississippi State. He missed some of camp in August while he attempted to pass the GRE (side note, never realized you needed to "pass" the GRE). Anyway, he will be starter next week in Boulder.

Also, the depth chart lists a true freshman at LT but not sure that's accurate. However, if true, hopefully the Buffs can feast on him.

They play Houston Baptist, available on ESPN3, so I may check out a quarter or two.

The next two weeks should allow them to work the kinks out on offense and gain some confidence. Also, to empty the benches in the 3rd quarter.

Damian Williams suspended, four freshmen battle for quarterback spot

“I think it’s hard to say because I think the rhythm is going to continue to build throughout the year because no one on this team, no quarterback on this roster, has taken a snap with anybody else on this football team ever,” Fleming said. “So, what’s going to happen, the first snap is going to be their first.

It's kind of confusing if he is suspended or not. I think the article you linked is related to his ineligibility from the GRE issues. I guess we'll know in a few hours. Not that it matters a whole bunch either way.

I didn't link it but he's not listed on the Texas State athletics website roster. Like you say, we'll know soon.

You're not really worried about Texas State at home... are you?

I'd hope we can get Noyer some 2nd half game time and find a second RB. The 24-10 is just my most pessimistic take. The thing I took away from the CSU game was how disjointed and haphazard our passing game was. How can you line that many WRs up and have no one to throw to? The offense looked like the way be played football in the street in front of our house circa 1964....."Go to the back of the VW Bug and see if you're open".

Grad transfer probably needed to get some minimum GRE score to be formally admitted to a grad program at TSU.

Looks like he's back on the team

Suspended redshirt senior QB Damian Williams returned to practice on Saturday.
Williams was suspended due to what HC Everett Withers termed "academic and personal reasons" at the beginning of August. Jaylen Gipson, Willie Jones III, Kishawn Kelley and Jaylin Nelson are currently battling it out for starting rights, but if Mississippi State transfer Williams is good to go, he would be the team's most promising option. In the meantime, more Kathy Ireland...

Texas State up 10-9 on Houston Baptist just before halftime. Damien Williams, transfer from Miss State, is their QB. He has accuracy issues but is mobile. His LT is a true frosh. I expect Texas State to pull away in the second half after starting a bit slow out of the gate.

More Kathy Ireland...

Texas State just beat Houston Baptist 20-11. Houston Baptist is just in its third year as a FCS football program and undoubtedly was affected by Hurricane Harvey. And HBU was leading 9-0 after the 1Q.

CU is going to destroy Texas State not only because of a freshman QB but they are still a young team and they were rated 129th out of 130 FBS teams and that was before the grad transfer QB was suspended. I think FCS Northern Colorado will be a better challenge for the Buffs than Texas State.
66 points against San Jose State back in 2003...I think that record is going to fall this coming Saturday.

Easy W, but I don't see that record falling either this week or next. MacIntyre started calling off the dogs LY against Idaho State when we were up 49-0 at half. My guess is these next two play out that way. We do enough to get 40 plus point leads on both these teams, and then we start calling off the dogs. It's all about fine-tuning things and making sure we're healthy for UW on 9/23, and I'd bet if I went to their board.....they're probably singing a similar tune.

Idaho State's QB was a RS Soph who appeared in 10 games the previous season. We are talking about three true freshmen and one RS freshman making their first road starts at CU. And if that grad QB is cleared to play, he won't be in sync with his teammates either.

It's going to be a long afternoon for those young Bobcats.
