The next two games that the Buffs play are the most critical in the Mike Macintyre Era

I am sure everyone realizes that the next two games that our beloved Buffs play are against the two teams that we cannot and should not lose to, but........... how confident are we in Coach Mac to reset his attitude, wrap up a solid recruiting class, make some much needed staff changes, and focus on the next 9 months to make sure the best players are on the field and make damn sure we do not lose to one or both of our RIVALS!!!

I know Mac talked about Gold Games, which he only won 1 of this past year, but he better have the Calendar marked up with the GREEN LETTER GAME and the much anticipated RED LETTER GAME!

I am already nervous as hell for these back to back games. We cannot lose!!!

My point on this posting is that IF he loses both of these games god forbid, I would fire his ass on the way home from Lincoln!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can see a 1-1 beginning to the season for the Buffs. But who knows this early.
Should beat CSU. NU Will have a new coach with the team playing reinvigorated and more up to their potential. It's a home game for Nebraska with a win vs CU. Again, who knows what happens if HCMM makes some changes to his staff. The offseason will be interesting.

it all depends on the who the D coordinator is, and who the starters end up being.
Execution starts at the top, and if there's no changes in coaching staff we can rest assured that next year will be business as usual for hte Buffs.
If HCMM makes the tough calls and makes changes, then I see us starting out 2-0....if he doens't, we could easily be 0-2.

And that is the key! We are in year #6 of MM, he has had chances to upgrade his staff to meet the environment and the challenges. He has now been a part of recruiting every single player on this team. We won 10 games a year ago and won our Division. Colorado State loses its QB and record breaking receiver. Nebraska is possibly the worst team in the Big 10 right now and gave up over 50 points in the last 3 games, and will be changing coaches, not sure if they have the right QB on the roster, and we are talking like we may or may not win the first two games against these teams??? Holy Sh*t, all the angst from everyone on this board about what happened in the past can just take a back seat to what HAS to happen on September 1st and 8th. IF, we do not win those two games, then MM is NOT the guy period. No big picture BS, simply win those two games, or step aside. It is better to have a definitive moment that tells you the ultimate resolution, and these two games are it.

For me the watershed moment was the collapse in Tempe. That midget Utah RB running over CU defenders like he was Larry Csonka sealed it.

I agree with the OP that those two games are critical for HCMM.

CU should beat CSU period. And even if Nebraska hires Scott Frost, it'll be at least a year before his system is established so I am expecting CU to beat Nebraska in Lincoln.

If CU can't beat either one, how will HCMM be able to beat the Pac-12 schools that are familiar with HCMM's schemes?

I think a lot is going to depend on what NU does-as we've learned from this very silly season, its never over until the school announces it.

Why are these games so critical? I just don't see it. CU will probably not be favored on the road with Nebraska. We should beat CSU but they may be due. You want to win every game but I don't see what makes these especially pivotal.

Out of curiosity, how old are you?

Umm, no. Conference games are more critical that OOC games. The Pac-12 championship game last year was more critical. The Utah game last year was more critical. MacIntyre isn't getting fired after two games, he'll coach out the season so a good conference record next year gets CU to a bowl game.

CSU and NU are never the most critical games anymore. CSU was never and will never be one of the most critical games and NU is a ghost rivalry from long ago.

Thank you. If CU lost both those games and then got its **** together to finish 9-3 (8-1) or something, I'd think that anyone who thought it was a bad year is an absolute idot.

Old enough...was there something in my response that prompted your question? IMO, the originals post was a little dramatic - like we have to stave off Armageddon by winning these games. Last year was the most critical to the MacIntyre era, IMO. Losing season last year and he is gone. Now he is here for at least two more years. And conference games are always more important than OOC.

I only ask because I wonder if recent graduates understand the importance the Nebraska game used to hold to us. I've wondered if the players will feel the hate that I used to as a student. I still can't stand Nebraska and want to beat them soundly next year and the year after.

For reference next year's incoming freshmen were born in 1999-2000. They would have been about 5-6 years old when CU last had a winning season before 2016. Let that sink in

Agreed - but that's not a realistic scenario. No chance if we lose the first two we would finish with that kind of record.

Finished with 9 wins in 2012 on the back of a great Big 12 season after losing to CSU and USC to start the year 1-2, iirc.

Fair enough. But we'd need some pretty powerful fairy dust to get by USC and Washington on the road. When was the last time we did that?
