Time to reboot this forum, I suppose

That's the big thing.

If we have, for example, a $3 million budget for Assistant Coaches, then you have to be smart about it.

You have 10 assistant coaches. So your average salary would be $300k.

With that, you can go a couple ways. One is to have the best, most experienced teachers on the field throughout your staff. To do that, you have to pay a premium for assistants and it means that you can't pay even the lower end of market rate for a P5 coordinator.

Alternately, you pay a premium for your coordinators and then you end up with only being able to pay $150k each for the 8 other assistants out of the $3M budget.

My strong preference is a bit of a hybrid of that. You hire a HC who is a guru on one side of the ball. The on-trend NFL model is that it's for offense and the HC handles your quarterbacks directly. Then, you go young and less expensive with your OC while paying a big premium for a veteran DC who would basically be an AHC with almost total authority over the defensive side. That leaves a bit more budget for paying the other assistants. After coordinator, the place to spend is on OL and Secondary plus someone who is going to be your recruiting coordinator.

Regardless of whether you can find that Riley/Kingsbury type guy to be your HC, you need to tilt the money toward the coordinators rather than the position coaches.

Say you hire Barry Odom as HC. You can save some money on DC, and skimp on positions like RB, TE, and LB.

Suddenly, your budget for OC goes from 700K to more like 950K/1M. Talent pool suddenly looks a lot deeper.

CU hires Mike Sanford for $1M inexplicably

A guy born in Oklahoma, who played and coached at Missouri, and is now coaching at Arkansas, with a son that has the middle name Trump, heading to Boulder, Colorado. What could go wrong

Most white football coaches probably identify as politically conservative. Whether he’s a full blown election denier, MAGA conservative is another question. I wasn’t able to find anything about his son’s middle name, but I’m not going to base a hire for the football program on politics. Also remember that our AD is on the fringe MAGa part of the spectrum

Plus, I think that’s his oldest son who’s like a senior in high school. If that middle name is connected to Donald, it would have been long before we knew him as the politician.

I don’t know much about why this article mentions he was “screwed” at Missouri. I will look that up. I would prefer an O focused head coach just because I think it’s easier to build a solid O quicker than D but if he can recruit both HS and Portal I’m in.

I would also prefer an Offensively oriented HC who brings a specific system and recruits and handles QBs. Keeping the offensive philosophy and scheme consistent and recruiting to it is important, IMO

While not related to President Trump, his teammates called him “Prez” after Trump got elected. Jake Trump, however, is the nephew of Missouri head coach Barry Odom.

that's all I found, guessing he has a sister that married someone with the last name Trump?

Granted, he's from bum**** Oklahoma, is a 45 year old white dude, and works generally in MAGA land, so we can assume..

Trump and its other variations are just a Germanic name, lots of non-orange people with that name or a similar one lol

Yeah. I hadn't thought of them and don't see them mentioned elsewhere, but they bring the explosive offense and frankly look a lot better to me than most of the other names I see.

Dunn's resume has some nice highlights:

-Long time assistant under an offensive minded HC with several players going to the NFL
-Has coached special teams, which means coaching players from every part of the roster
-Has been recruiting the DFW metroplex for a long time

And Golesh has spent his career in high powered offenses & then transforming Tenn. Only 38, which makes it a big risk/reward scenario. If it worked, it would be so great.

Still probably Grimes (not because of the CU connection) and Odom for me from that list, but Golesh, Dunn, and a couple of those other guys have wouldn’t be bad.

Yeah, where I’m at… if they haven’t effectively recruited TX (DFW specifically), they are not a good candidate for this job.

They just mentioned Leipold on GameDay. Apparently, he doesn't want to go anywhere else, yeah heard that before. Also said their AD is all in with him, probably give him a big raise this off-season.

If a bigger program comes calling I can't imagine he would stay at KU regardless of the raise he gets

i know Deion has been brought up before, but I thought this article was interesting. He’s about as far from B4L as I can imagine, would be affordable (I think), and FSU being unbeaten makes that an unlikely destination.
