Travis Hunter Appreciation Thread (Awards: HE12MAN, Walter Camp, Biletnikoff, Bednarik, Lott, Paul Hornung, AP PotY)

Travis Hunter By The Numbers

Early in the year people were saying heEarly wouldn’t have a shot at the Heisman because a) Colorado won’t have very many wins and b) Hunter won’t be able to maintain this type of play consistently all season.

Well here we are with Colorado with 9 wins (Many Heisman winners have had 9 including last years winner) and Hunter played both sides of the ball all season minus 3 quarters against Kansas State for an injury.

Offense

92 Catches
1,152 yards receiving
14 receiving TD’s (CU single season record)
1 rushing TD
608 snaps

Defense

32 Tackles
11 PBU’s
4 INT’s
1 Forced Fumble (Game clinching)
642 Snaps

Targeted 33 times in 343 coverage snaps.

He either broke up the pass or intercepted the ball on 45% of the times we was targeted.

Allowed 20 receptions for 187 yards.

Allowed 6 first downs (fewest among all CB’s in the country).

Allowed only 5 plays of 15 yards or more.

Tackled WR on 19 of 20 allowed receptions.

Allowed 1 TD all season

Had 4 games with an INT and a TD

Special Teams
19 snaps

Big 12 Defensive Player of the year

1st player in Big 12 history to be named 1st-Team Offense and 1st-Team Defense.

1st-Team Academic All-American

Projected by most to be the #1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Finalist for following awards.
Heisman
Walter Camp
Maxwell
Bednarick
Biletnikoff
Hornung

There is no question Ashton Jeanty is the best RB in college football today, excellent back. However we have seen backs like him before and we will again.

You could debate who is the better QB between Shedeur Sanders, Cam Ward and Dillon Gabriel. All three of those have put up Heisman type numbers this season.

The Heisman Trophy is awarded (or is supposed to be) to the top PLAYER in college football. What we have seen this year from Travis Hunter has never been done before and will probably never be replicated again. And it’s not just the number of snaps, it’s the production on both sides of the ball from Hunter and how he has maintained that production all season.

Someone explain those special teams snaps to me.

The only conversation being had should be what would the other player do if they were in each other's conference.

Jeanty becomes Scattebo.

Travis becomes this guy x100000000000

Article from SI this AM:

Jeanty, who entered the week +2000 to win the award, now sits at +1000 after another monster performance. While still a relative long shot, Jeanty saw his implied probability shift from 4.76% to 9.09%, it’s clear that there’s only one player that can make a late push to take down Hunter.

I understand the thought behind this but no, a Jeanty is not Scattebo.

He is the best RB in college football and would be playing in any conference. His numbers are inflated some by weak MWC defenses but in any conference in most years he would be a legit Heisman contender.

Bad luck for him that in his year there happened to be a once in a century guy, a guy who will be the comparison for decades come along.

Travis is easily the best player in college football. This is not because the competition is weak, it highlights how good Travis is that as good as the others are there still shouldn't be serious discussion.
