UCLA fires Jim Mora

I'm just surprised UCLA has to resources to go against Florida for Chip when they just laid down 12 million to fire Mora.

$280M over 15 years from Under Armour covers a lot of mistakes.
Yeah, but they struggled to get their facilities project fully funded and don't have near the revenue and/or booster support of Florida. We will see though, maybe chip wants to be in the Pac-12.

don't worry too much about ucla. they will **** up the next hire too. they recruit well. they choke. they underperform. it is what they do. always. i personally believe it is due to the powder blue uniforms.

making a cluster**** of things and continuously underperforming is just in some team's dna

UCLA is a much better job. Much better recruiting setup and they won't fire him for winning 9 games a year. All he has to do is compare how UCLA treated Terry Donahue to how Nebraska treated Frank Solich and Bo Pelini.
Exactly. If I am Frost, I am having my agent call UCLA, immediately, if not sooner. It would suck for CU though.

Why is everyone so high on Frost? They've had one good season at UCF, but is that enough to trust him with a P5 program like UCLA or Florida? I'd be skeptical as an AD. His OC time at Oregon was also pretty brief and under the decline observed with Helfrich's teams.

Young, known as a great recruiter with experience in different offensive systems so he can adapt as he goes. Proved he wasn't just a good coordinator when he turned UCF around in a year.

Also, not only has he made UCF very good, but he has them at #1 in the country on offense. Pretty clear he is a dynamic young offensive mind.

The moment he left OU has the OC, the Ducks **** the bed and it got Helfrich fired. The team he took over at UCF was 0-12 the previous year.
2016: 6-6 then lost their bowl game
2017: 10-0 so far

That's a pretty strong resume, even if normal circumstances would dictate at least one more year to prove he can run a program, not just improve a ****ty one.

Better resume than Sparkles, and Sparkles got an SEC job.

Gonna be interesting to compare what contract Frost gets. McElwain got $4.4m. Basically every # I’ve seen speculated for Frost is over $5m, one even as high as $5.7m. His agent has to be loving Nebraska’s desperation right now.

Scott Frost's UCF team:
Total Offense, 5th in the nation.
Scoring Offense, 1st
Passing Efficiency, 2nd
Passing Offense, 11th
Passing Yards per Comp, 10th
Rushing Offense, 32nd
Third Down Conversions, 25th
Sacks Allowed, 13th
Least Number of Turnovers, 13th for fumbles, 9th of interceptions

This^^^^. I have watched UCLA from the days of Tommy Prothro as coach. Over that time they have had guys that were considered good coaches -Prothro, Vermeil, Terry Donahue but never got to elite status. They usually have good teams and winning records but under perform for the amount of talent they have. (Neuheisel is the only coach over that period of time who has a losing record). They always appear to be soft.

I wonder if any coach can get them to be an elite program. The talent pool available to them is incredible.

Yeah. They recruit a bunch of area kids who want to stay close to mommy.

This is legitimately bad for the rest of the Pac 12. If UCLA ends up actually hiring a competent head coach for once, we're in trouble. UCLA is a true sleeping giant, they just have the most ridiculously bad luck in terms of hiring coaches (kind of like us)

They've been sleeping for decades. At what point do we get to conclude that maybe they're not really a giant?

I was concerned when they hired Mora that he was going to be the guy who finally got them to their full potential. Seems I overestimated his abilities. I Trust them to screw up their next hire.

I don't see UCLA ever being a perennial power. I agree they're a sleeping giant, but that is more for a few seasons tops.

They have always underachieved as U$C's little brother. I think the local kids who are hardcore go to USC, and the ones that want to be distracted by hotties and everything else Westwood has to offer goes to UCLA. They go to UCLA for basketball, not football.

UCLA has IMO always underperformed given their geographic location and access to top talent. It's where players go to get soft IMO.

Every good coach believes he can be successful at whichever program he takes over. Frost hasn't had the success he has had without a big dose of confidence.

One issue that may run in UCLA's favor. Frost is a young rising star in the coaching business. Win big at Nebraska and you are a local superstar. Nobody outside the Nebraska fan base cares but in Nebraska you can't drive down the street without having people pay attention and wanting your attention.

Win at UCLA and you can be a national star. You can have appearances on the national shows, get sponsorships, hang with the stars. You also can rub shoulders with the NFL people passing through town. You can also be somewhat anonymous. Drive a little ways across town and you can shop without being bothered and have a quiet meal in a restaurant.

How this all fits with Frost's personality I have no idea but they are two polar opposite jobs in many respects.
