Urban Meyer stepping down, Ryan Day the new OSU HC

So you think he was offered the CU job and he said 'yes' only to back out later? I didn't piece it together that way.
I don't think he intended on backing out, but things changed when he went back and told OSU he was going to take another job. Weather that was upping his pay and confirming he would take over after 2019 or Urban finally deciding to hang it up after the Rose Bowl, something changed and the report came out the next day that he was staying at OSU.

If that was the case, he never would have been considered a candidate here, nor would he have been included in any rumors about meeting w RG and agreeing to terms.
Ari Weisserman reported transition talks began in Sept. I suspect Day was approached by several, but he’s had this in his back pocket for a while now.

When did Day ever agree to become CUs coach?

There were quite a few leaks from the CU side last Wednesday night that Day was the guy and that RG and Carl had dinner with him and close the deal that night. Then the next day reports come out before noon that he is staying at Ohio State and would take over for Urban after the 2019 season. I don't know if this accelerated the situation or Urban just decided it was time but that is a very convenient timeline of events if people want to say Day wasn't a candidate.

Where were these leaks reported? It would have been all over this board.

So where does this leave Matt Campbell and Greg Schiano?

I asked the same thing about Matt Campbell?
Either he doubles down at Iowa State and chooses to build them into something special
OR, he would be totally in play for USC next year after Helton goes 5-7 again

Iowa State has a ceiling that Campbell is bumping up against. It doesn't look like any big time jobs are opening up this year, short of something crazy happening like Lincoln Riley taking an NFL job, so I think Campbell either jumps to the NFL himself, or waits one more season at Iowa State and jumps to SC or another big job that opens up (or possibly the NFL).

1. Campbell IMO is a serious candidate for an NFL job this offseason. I think he is smart enough to know that going to the NFL has high upside and not a lot of downside for his desirability as a college coach for a major program.

2. I for one am totally shocked that tOSU chose a guy who has a three game head coaching resume over a guy with 11 amazing years as a head coach!

Yeah, I don't really see the point of sticking around at Iowa State for another year. He and Riley are candidates 1a and 1b for NFL teams wanting to get into the college game. If Riley chooses to make the jump, it starts the carousel all over again and really creates some movement.

Will be awesome when Urban joins USC within the next three years.

that was my first thought too, but not 3 years, next year. He can take 1 year off for "health reasons" and then roll in

I hope I'm wrong. Meyer can't seem to stick at programs for the long term, but in the 6-8 years he's at a place, they win a lot.

At the very least, this means that if, for some insane reason, the Mel Tucker hire flames out, we have Greg Schiano just sitting there, waiting for the call.

I'm not sure if I would make that phone call.

It wouldn't hurt the national perception of the conference if both LA teams got their **** together.
