Washington Game --- Official Thread (8pm FS1)

Put Lindsey behind USC or Stanford's OL and see what he would do. Put any of those players behind our line and they won't do what Lindsey has done over his career.

Fair point. I just don't like what i see when he is in space and has one to beat. He isn't making an impact in that situation

I'm actually Okay with tonight's performance since my expectation has always been going to the bowl this year. I think we can definitely do that. Just hope the performance tonight won't ruin our big recruiting weekend.
If anything it shows them that they are the missing pieces. Especially, if they're being recruited in the trenches.

Not the greatest showing for the recruits in town

I disagree, recruits also want to play. They will see some spots that they can get into early and as long as they see the facilities, the crowd, and Chev can sell them we will be OK. The worst thing to happen tonight is a wet field and not having Ralphie run. That is something they definitely missed and is a lost chance.

this is like the most homerific **** I've seen in awhile.

Tini is that you?

lol. Good take but no. I am just trying to place the blame where it is due. Lindsay was not the problem. In my opinion the problem tonight was bad offensive game plan (too much run up the middle\short passes, not enough stretch the field), OL/DL line talent not good enough, Montez showed his lack of experience, defense gave up toward the end.

Anyway, probably best to disregard anything I say tonight. Too pissed off and drunk to make much sense.

Maybe this isn't the place, but why does it seem like chev is the only recruiter?Doesn't seem like anybody else can make a splash.

I'm surprised to see no one mentioning the weather as a critical component of this game. If we'd had clear skies tonight Folsom would have been packed to the rafters and noisy as hell. Instead it was 15k+ short of capacity and quiet even while we were in contention. The energy in the stadium was flat, and for a top ten opponent our players needed some energy to feed off of. Aside from that, we were playing a team from Seattle on the one night of the month where we get a lot of rain... couldn't ask for worse weather when playing this particular opponent at home.

Admittedly, the team folded like a cheap shirt in the second half and Montez made some truly boneheaded plays throughout, but i think if the clouds hadn't gotten involved this still had the potential to have gone very differently, even with our deficits in size and speed.

Just home from the game and finally warm and dry. The board is less melt-downy than I expected.

Montez needs to learn to make smarter decisions faster. He needs to talk less and watch more film.

The connection between Montez and the receivers still feels really loose. Hopefully that develops as he matures this season but we’ll see.

Seems like the D needed to pull in all game. Too much cushion all game.

Italian sausages on the rooftop cost too much.
The UW fans I interacted with were incredibly annoying. I heard them compared to having a dick rubbed on your cheek all game.

Lurking on the UDub message boards the last couple of years, they do seem like an incredibly smug bunch. Like #1 in the nation in smugness. Everything is an inside joke to them because they are just THAT MUCH smarter and cooler than everyone else.

It's too bad that their fan base is so "incredibly annoying" because their team is pretty good and does things the right way. They should check themselves. It wasn't too long ago that they had an 0-11 season.

Can't consistently compete with power teams with 3 stars...Mac is not an elite recruiter.....average at best......major **** your pants game....

Dude, you can't just start landing 4 and 5 star players because you had one ten win season. They need to prove that they can win consistently. Aside from last year, the only thing that cu has proven is that they lose consistently. It doesn't happen overnight.

Two things-One, I can remember when Dan Hawkins signed a certain 5 star RB who lasted.............a year here? Two, Oregon made multiple national championship game appearances recruiting to their system. If a kid fits, get him here. I don't care about stars.

He's not in any danger of losing his job, so you can sleep well.

But you really are not paying attention if you do not see his liabilities. We are susceptible to stretch runs from here on out because he is really slow.

Agreed. Two plays really stood out.
1. The near interception early he should have had but was a step slow.

2. One of the aforementioned stretch run plays that went for a big gain. He was very slow to the hole where he should have made the initial tackle. Gaskin had to make a looping bounce outside as an offensive lineman was getting pushed back into him, and still beat Gamboa to the edge and Gamboa had the angle from the start and never stopped running. Literally should have had him twice and the guy had to go backwards and still couldn't get to him.

Kid always knows where he and his teammates are supposed to be, and by all accounts a great kid and leader, but he's also slow for PAC-12 football.

lol tier of apologetics here

You should forget about cu and go cheer on your other favorite team.

Guess what? We're a second tier PAC 12 coming off of what should be a momentum season and instead of our recruiting jumping to first tier it fell to third tier.

Know what that means? I do. It means that in three years I'll obey the social norm of not indulging in schadenfreude when you realize that I was right all along.

Was at the game. Several things-
1. UW is really, really good. I think they might be the best team in the country not named Clemson or Alabama right now (easy argument to make given Oklahoma and USC doing just enough to not lose their games today), and they're far and away better than USC right now.
2. The mistakes killed us tonight. The blocked punt, interception that went off the hands of Lindsay and into the UW defensive back's hands, and pick 6 cost us........20 points? Basically the difference in the football game. The effort was a lot better tonight than against Texas State or UNC...you can't make the mistakes we did tonight and have a shot against a top 10 team.
3. Question for those who watched the game-Was the Drew Lewis facemask call as iffy on TV as it looked in person?

Third tier? What are you talking about?

Stuck around in Boulder a bit and just got home around midnight. I don't know what to think. Montez clearly has talent but he just seems to lack that intangible that great QB's have. Very frustrating. That pass he overthrew down the sideline is a pass a great quarterback HAS to make.

I'm frustrated that we seem to have such a basic passing game. I think the middle of the field was there all night but we almost never take advantage of it, dinking and dunking all night and Washington was perfectly content letting us have it.

Washington once again dominated the line of scrimmage. I don't know for sure but I don't think Washington had any 3 and outs. The moved the ball almost at will. None of our linebackers are playmakers and we put zero pressure on the QB.

Another blocked punt and it was an absolute killer. Totally unacceptable. That cannot happen EVER, no matter where you are but especially deep in your end of the field.

I hate to say this, but our guys looked and played like they were demoralized after Washington went up by a couple of touchdowns. That bugs me. That's where your leaders need to step up and no one did. I'm not sure we have any leaders.

All that said I'm sort of encouraged. I feel like the game was much closer than the final score. I think Montez will take a big step forward this year. I think we are going to improve a lot.

Secon tier? meaning what? That cu isn't where Washington and USC are? You're right. Again, it doesn't happen overnight. Idk, you probably weren't around when cu was one of the worst teams in college football, for years.

I'm getting a kick out of this notion that we are "third tier" in recruiting because we can't land a bevy of 4 and 5 star recruits. Anyone who even looks at CU's recruiting at a glance knows that last year's class was the all around strongest in YEARS. This stuff takes time.

It does not have to be either extreme. Recruiting is better, but it can/should be better.

No one (and I mean no one) expects a class full of 4*/5* players, but come on guys, the recruiting in the trenches just needs to get better and it needs to happen in this class. Period. Otherwise, we will be saying the same thing 2-3 years from now.

Talent disparity wad large across the board.

I guess recruiting was important 3-4 classes ago

While I love Lindsay I am getting sick and tired of the dancing act instead of just cutting upfield. I don't know why it just seems like it really started this year, previous years he would make that cut and make the physical contact.
