Week Zero Games Thread

This is a football thread, not a football thread.
He expresses my emotions perfectly, so **** off!

Also, I'm crushed that there is no football in the AM. I'm gonna be smoking a pork shoulder all day tomorrow, and I was hoping for some day games.

Florida wins, Miami covers.
AZ wins, Hawaii covers. Over 70.5

I like Hawaii and Miami to cover, but it wouldn't shock me at all if Hawaii won that game outright-they're really tough to beat for teams who play them on the islands-especially if they start fast. Kevin Sumlin showed last year he had no idea what to do with Khalil Tate, which makes me wonder about Arizona heading into this year. I use Bovada-and they've got the total for Arizona/Hawaii at 74.5-too high IMO.

Hawaii and Miami cover, and possibly win outright. Take the over on Haw-UA. Lets see if Florida has a competent offense.

Miami has talent but I think people are just ignoring how bad they have been the last handful of games and it’s not like they brought in some proven coach.

in 3/4 aspects they were a pretty darn good team. However, their pass offense was beyond abysmal. They didn't have a p5 QB on the roster. If that is fixed, they could be pretty good.

Finally!

I think Florida will roll. Their offense is legit.

Arizona-Hawaii is actually really interesting to me. Tate has unreal talent and will be interesting to see how they decide to use him this year since he is now healthy. Like CU, I have absolutely no idea what to expect out of Arizona.

I just don’t see how a team that is pretty darn good goes 7-5 in that conference. I know their defense was good but that doesn’t add up to just one player away at QB. If they had hired a proven guy I could see all this improvement but not right now.

They only gave up like 18 ppg in conference.

I know I said they had a good defense, but they played against some really bad offenses in conference too. They did close out well against Pitt and va tech before getting blasted by whisky but up never know with bowl games.

I get why they hired Diaz-because of how late Richt's decision to retire was-but that's got the potential to be an Embree-style disaster. Anybody worth a **** in that league right now should be able to get to a bowl game.....my guess is they do that, but they're not much better than 7-5.

Comparing Diaz and Embree is a stretch.

Diaz has a better resume, but have his defenses ever been any good?

The lowest ranked scoring defense he has had in the last four years was 36th at Mississippi State in 2015. Two of the past three seasons at Miami, they have finished in the top 20.

I think his defense was just top 3 in yards per play. That's a much better measure of a defense than points since both your offense and special teams can give the other team points. Also, points gets influenced by pace, field position and other factors. The best measure, imo, would be "points per defensive possession" but I can never find that stat.
