Well, we suck again. Fire Mac.

I get it; people are mad (myself included). However, it's not true that "no one cares if they make some crappy bowl this year." I always like to see the Seniors who have given so much to the Buffs get one last game in black and gold. It's hard for me to see many of these guys playing football at the next level.

Outside of Adams and Jeffcoat (and obviously Bernardi), Hagan is arguably the most disappointing and underachieving coaches MM has had during his 6 years. Never really pulled in a big time recruit, couldn’t develop any actual depth, and actually lost a commitment from a kid who is a major contributor as a True freshman at a top 10 program.

I guess arguably Bisharat was a big time recruit (4*, rated the 16th best RB in the country), he just hasn't contributed worth a lick. There's a fair argument that the lack of contribution by him speaks to Hagan as a talent evaluator... Bish's physical profile is taller and bigger than the prototypical fast, athletic RB anyways... If he gets out of here without ever trying to play LB, that will be quite the missed opportunity.

But yeah, the depth chart is scary, and largely has been- Phil punched above his metaphorical weight class, Travon has been good, I guess Christian Powell was fine. Losing Patrick Carr sucked.

If indeed the whole staff gets sent packing, I'll harbor no ill will for Mac and probably remember him somewhat kindly in a year or two, but I'll feel the worst for the two alumni on the staff- Chev and Hagan.

$10 million bucks. Dammit! For an AD that breaks even $10 million is a big deal. Thanks for putting us in this predicament Mac!

I'd be happy to see us win in Berkeley and get to a bowl, or upset Utah, as long as RG still makes an objective decision about retaining the staff. I would even try to go to the bowl game, if possible.

The idea that we could make a bowl and fire our staff for underperformance is a far cry from where this program was not very long ago... it would take a weird confluence of circumstances for it to happen (5-0 to 0-5 and stealing one against Cal), but that's where we are.

The team I saw on Saturday ain’t beating jack ****.

No, I don't think so either. Cal has generally had trouble scoring and fluky things happen in low scoring games... flip side being they have a stout defense.

The Pac-12 has been so unpredictable all year that I can't really say "x won't beat y" with near certainty any game any week, but if the CU team that played Wazzu shows up the next two weekends, we will go 5-7.

No. I'm venting a bit. But the only reasonable answer is that Chev has been good in some ways and poor in others. He has potential as a position coach and could become a great recruiter. If the new coach wants to keep him on board, I wouldn't be upset. But I damn sure wouldn't tell the new coach he had to retain Chev or anyone else.
I think Chev will one day make a great head coach. Seems to have the motivational skill and the recruiting chops. He needs to develop his leadership skills and his organizational skills. Perfectly fine letting him develop those skills somewhere else.

So we would owe Mac $9.375M. With the assumption of offset, due to employment, you can probably assume a reduction of that total buyout to $3-4M

That's my assumption. Including assistants, I believe the realistic figure RG has to be able to come up with $3-$5MM over 3 years, with the bulk of that probably in 2019.

I don't blame Bounds. He didn't sign up to be an offensive lineman and all he's done when given the opportunity is catch the balls that have been thrown to him. It's ridiculous.

Which is a major indictment of Chev. Coach. To. Your. Players.
Yes. WR dominated offense on the edge. I would not change system because if Bounds, at all. He had trouble physically (and perhaps mentally) with that system. Jones can’t catch. Russell emerged.

I'm not saying change the entire system for Bounds, but instead of saying, "We still need to utilize the middle of the field, so let's try Viska or Winfree as a bigger matchup problem as a tight slot or H-Back role", Chev just decided to completely throw away anything and everything that threatened the middle of the field.

TL/DR - Chev's system sucks.

Hell, most teams that use TE's in the passing game flex them out pretty often from what I've seen. That's been going on for awhile now. We should try it with our bigger receivers if we won't use any TE's for it.
