Would we have been better off naming Darrin Chiaverini the permanent head coach?

DC as HC - would we be better off?

Okay, hear me out... we all agree that he's been miserable as offensive coordinator, but... as head coach he'd largely be delegating the design of the offense. As HC he could be just the face of the team, handle the media, handle the boosters and RECRUIT. In the big chair he'd have a job that accentuates his strengths and hides his weaknesses.

Would the program be in better shape if he'd just been left as the HC?

No. RG should have had another coordinator or G5 HC lined up who would have taken the gig after the Sark fiasco.

The better question might be should CU have given him the interim tag and conducted a lengthy search for a new coach after the season? Had Covid hit the U.S. 30 days earlier, I’m convinced this would’ve been the outcome.
I have wondered this. But being realistic, I think the timing made it impossible. Maybe if spring ball had already started. Still doesn't excuse the contract.

For the crowd that says give him the Interim HC gig last year. What realistic staff could he have built? You would be looking at a staff of all coach Rod situations. Coach Meat and Wilson wouldn't be coming here for that situation and I doubt Kap would have stayed.

You’re implying that someone who has now repeatedly proven he can’t handle a coordinator role should be kicked upstairs and given more responsibility, am I understanding you right?

Of the 5 HCs since GB, I rank KD 3rd and it would be hard for him to move down the list.

1. Tucker
2. MacIntyre
3. Dorrell
4. Hawkins
5. Embree

If I was betting and the O/U was set at 3 with Chev as HC, I'd take the Under.

Overall, Hawk is a more successful HC than KD.

I think my point is being lost/misunderstood. It’s possible to be more qualified for a job further up the chain than one lower down the chain. DC is not qualified to be an offensive coordinator but a head coach requires a much different skill set.

And we already covered this

I think people get you just right or have some serious doubts about your proposed theory.

I would put KD a notch or two below "mediocre college HC." Ask UCLA fans how they feel about him. Obviously Chev is not the answer, but the longer KD stays, the more ****ed we will be.

Semantics. I don’t think Dorrell is Embree level catastrophic. Chev has to prove that first.

For me to answer the question, I suppose I have to figure out if it could be any worse than what we are dealing with at the moment. I have to admit that yes, it could be worse - a lot worse. So with that in mind I’d have to come down squarely on the side of “What the actual ****, dude?”
