Neg rep this guy for questioning a rivalry. If this is true, CU has 0 rivalries and has not had a rivalry since Pre-Big 7 days when their rivals were CSU and Utah. Keep in mind, Nebraska was referenced a rivalry despite a similar win percentage in that series.

CSU is a rival. Deal with it.

The reasons this is on P12N:
-CU got trounced their last two.
-CSU was a mediocre G5 team last year.
-P12 has an awful TV deal and P12 is a low priority. They also moved the game to Friday but they put it on as same time as Washington and Rutgers which is more attractive nationally with much bigger market. They should have made this the Sunday game or MNF since NFL won't be started with regular season and pre-season is over that weekend.
CSU is not a rival in any way shape or form. Never has been and never will be. Only reason CU and CSU have played so many times is because they are close. Proximity, however, does not make someone a rival.

Yes that means CU doesn't have a rival right now. Deal with it.

When we CU fans start to cheer for someone to lose because we hate them with the heat of a thousand suns, then you will know we have a rival. Until then we have none.

Edit: The young fans in the group will learn the meaning of rivalry and hate next year. I suspect a few 70+ year old season ticket holders will be shocking some of the younger fans next year. The hate still flows strong.

I actually do hate CSU with a passion and actively root for CSU to lose every week. This isn't because I view them as a rival, however, but rather because I grew up with and am still friends with a lot of guys who went there and belligerently insist that CU is a joke and they are on the same level. Not to mention, when I was in school at CU, both teams were trash, the series was split 2-2, and ended my senior year with them beating us in Folsom and my friends rushing the field dancing on the logo. Cool story bro.

The only thing that makes Nebraska a rival is Bill McCartney saying they were and they were closest team in Big XII. Your logic is flawed calling one not a rival but the other being one. A trophy, a game played at a pro stadium and playing 34 times of 37 years is a rivalry or a conference opponent. BTW, we have not played anyone 34 times in the last 37 years but CSU.

So you call Nebraska a rival but not CSU. Very ironic. And fans 35 and over know plenty of the hate for Nebraska. Unless you are talking about how much hate you have for UNC.

I cheer with passion for CSU and Nebraska to lose every week. At the bar, if there are CSU fans and a game is on, I will root for every score the other team makes. I hate both schools. CU has never had a rivalry per this ass backwards logic.

I can't agree more. How in any shape or form do people believe the other in-state school that we have played since 1888 a total of 88 times that includes a trophy and pure hatred is not a rival? They were the first school I was taught to hate when I arrived on campus, as it was the first game played and will be the team I continue to hate when we discontinue our meetings.

The difference between CU/Nebraska and CU/CSU is that CU and Nebraska played in the same conference and division and had some meaningful games with big time national implications. There is nothing similar about the RMS. Name another true P5 vs G5 rivalry.

Utah vs BYU these days.
Most sites that list rivalries include Notre Dame vs Navy.
They tried to make West Virginia vs Marshall a big rivalry event for the state.
Others I can think of are even bigger stretches like Stanford vs San Jose State.
P5 vs G5 rivalries are few and far between.

Just want to say **** Nebraska. That is the standard that I compare CU's supposed rivalries, and no, while I want to beat CSU as well (more to just shut their short-man syndrome fans up), I do not consider CSU a rival. I like FoCo actually, and hope they do reasonably well. **** Nebraska though... ....some of their girls are hot, but even then...**** nebraska..........

Here are a few more:
- Battle of Palouse, Washington State vs. Idaho (91 Meetings)
- Boston College vs. UMass (Since 1899)
- The Old Wagon Wheel, BYU vs. Utah State (85 Meetings) *Depends on your view of BYU
- Victory Barrel, NC State vs. East Carolina (28 Meetings)
- Iron Skillet, TCU vs. SMU (97 Meetings)

Colorado vs. Colorado State is more legit than pretty much all of those.

Eh, should BYU really be considered G5?
ND/Navy is a "rivalry" only out of nostalgia at this point
West Virginia and Marshall have played 12 times in history and WVU holds a 12-0 record
I don't know enough about Stanford vs SJSU to comment, but have never given any thought to that as any kind of rivalry.

As you said, P5 vs G5 rivalries basically do not exist

There isn't one. It sucks. But with CO being isolated from the rest of the country and being next to state's with 1-3 Division 1 teams and some w/o a P5 it makes it difficult.

And during the heyday of the RMS, it was national title implications and Top 15 possiblity for CSU if they beat CU. Look at 2002. If CU beats CSU, their season is more like this year's where they are in Top 10 talks until the OU beating.

And CU was in the same conference as CSU. I know it was a really long time ago, but the fact they rekindled the rivalry after a long break doesn't mean it's not a rivalry. Just an unusual one. And yes, most rivals play at season's end like I hope CU-Utah becomes because that is the natural fit. It would entail one of the programs really doing big things nationally like being in CFP.

I nothing csu.

I root for them in every other game they play, dispassionately, cause I want the state to do well. I like the W better than the L when we play.

I won't even wear ****ing red. Pig ****ers, the lot of them.
i need to be able to give serious rep. Couldn't agree more.

I think the disdain for and rivalry against CSU still actively exists on campus. My daughter is a current student at CU and takes upper-level science courses, and in the context of some lecture-discussion in class a professor asked about the origin of some specific lower-level species. Someone chimed in loudly with: "Fort Collins?" Cracked the class up (as well as the professor).

Simple question, are you high? Colorado State is 100% a rival of Colorado and might be our biggest at the moment. Not sure how you can argue against that.
**** you and that digger guy too.

I don't want to win the CSU game - I only want to not lose.

I don't cheer for whoever the sheep play. I really don't give a **** who wins and loses when they play anyone but us. Are they good?

Did they go to bowl last year?

Seriously, I don't even know, that's how little I care about those mountain west peons.

On the other hand, nothing would please me more than for USC to go 0-12 this year. I want them to lose every ****ing game they play. "It's good for the conference if they do well" - f*** that s**t. I want to watch them lose every ****ing game.

Few things please me more than watching America's Stripper University step on their own dick and lose a winnable game in the 4th quarter.

I thoroughly enjoy watching the Utards get mudholed.

And the d**k chards - it's great entertainment when they implode.

I find it gloriously entertaining when WSU coug's it.

The prima donna's at UCLA - I love watching any other team punch them in the ****ing face, I really don't think football has more punchable faces than are on the sidelines in Pasadena.

The purple fat kid's clothing sizes can go eat a giant bag of dicks.

I can't wait for the Disney cartoon idiot's benefactor to die so that they can return to the college football cellar where they came from and so ****ing clearly belong.

The trees just piss me off, I would grudgingly respect them if it weren't for the fact that they don't even respect themselves enough to show up and cheer for a really ****ing good team. **** you guys.

I don't hate the bears - pity is a better word...

but schadenfreude is a better one. I really do delight in their misery.

The Beavers? **** them. It's what we do.

Seeing a pattern here?

There are teams I give a **** about 12 games a year, and teams I care about for 1. Guess which category the ****ing sheep fall into.

Once again, are you high? You are completely missing the point to the entire argument. First off, wanting all those teams to lose every game is idiotic. That would just do harm to our conference. If every PAC-12 team went 0-3 in preseason (with the exception of us), we would end up just like the Mountain West. Our credibility as a top-tier conference would be gone.

Would beating USC, UW, UCLA etc be better for us during the season, yes, obviously. Does beating CSU add anything to our season as we are expected to beat them, no. But that doesn't mean they are not a rival. We've played CSU since the 1800's, 88 times. There is a trophy and bragging rights for the state. Pretty sure that constitutes a rival.

You sir are an idiot.

Better dead than Red, my son asks for a red shirt just to mess with me. He thinks it's funny as hell lol.

I'm starting to feel it more as a rivalry with Utah. It would help if both schools would promote it more.

Colorado leads all-time "Rumble in the Rockies" series 32-28-2. That's a lot of history and it's very close, which both add a lot to this. And as long as the scheduling is maintained with us playing on Thanksgiving rivalry weekend in the Pac-12, it sets up as a big game on the schedule regardless of records.

Since joining the Pac-12, Utah leads 4-2. But the 2 CU wins were huge: the first kept Utah out of the championship game and the second put CU into the championship game.

The thing this is missing is hate. I don't know many CU fans who hate Utah or vice versa. That's something it's hard to envision changing.

But I do think it can become a lot more than it is in the minds of players and fans.

As we've discussed before, I think this needs one of those silly trophies to play for and one of those silly bets between our state governors. Add a bit of that college pageantry that makes things more fun and gets some extra pub.

Feels like some industrious fan is going to have to just build one and donate it.

Michigan-Ohio State is a rivalry, bud. Nebraska was and still is a rivalry, and that perception is mutual. Why do you think we're the first Old Big 12 team they're playing since they left the league? Colorado State is not. Let me give you several reasons why-One, we lead the series 64-22-2. Two, we're coming out of the worst stretch (arguably-I wasn't alive during the Fairbanks era so I can't opine on it) in our history, and we're still beating them 60% of the time. Three, if you force season ticket holders to buy the Denver game to sell your allotment (as Mike Bohn did) can you really argue this is a rivalry? Four, if the bulk of people on here root for them in conference play (no matter how dispassionately) can you look at them as a rival? Let's compare that with Nebraska-I hope they lose every game they play, and I can guarantee you I'm not alone.

If Nebraska isn't a rival, why do you think we started working on the double home and home we have with them probably right after we both left the Big 12? If Nebraska isn't a rival, why do you think we're the first old Big 12 team they'll play?

The Golden Ski! Just kidding. In all seriousness, the thing this series needed was a game like last year's. It'll be interesting to see if things get hotter with them this season.

I think something like this (90's kids will recognize it), with gold, red, and white LED's in it. Before the game, it is switched back to white. After the game the winning team gets to set it to their color. Unique, team oriented, and quirky. Why not?

I'd actually prefer to never play Nebraska ever again. Those polyester clad inbred assholes stink up the place. **** Nebraska.

Well I will be there in Lincoln next fall.
Not me. I've been to enough games there that I don't feel the need to ever go back. I won't begrudge anybody who goes, it's just not for me. I hate that place. I hate the fans. I hate the school. I hate their stupid mascot. I hate that stupid town and I hate that entire state. **** Nebraska.

I will most definitely pass on these thoughts while I am there.
