'17 CO SG Justinian Jessup (Verbal to Boise State)

There's some hyperbole there, don't get me wrong, but unless the kid has either a connection to a solid AAU team (KC Pump N Run has been used by numerous preps... drawing a blank on who Perkins played with) or Olympic experience (being close to Colorado Springs gets some of these kids a chance they may not normally get and guys like Schwartz take advantage of it) I'm pretty down on Colorado preps. I honestly would rather have a lower ranked kid from SoCal or the Bay Area than a Colorado kid. The overall quality level here just isn't high enough IMO.

I think there's enough talent in the state to take a guy almost every year. Some years, more than one. I don't think that's been the problem on the court and I believe that building hoops in the state (with CU hoops at the pinnacle) is a mission of Tad's we need to be on board with or start wanting a different coach. It's who he is and what he desires for this program & his state. There's got to be a balance and limit, which he seems to manage well. Not like any CO recruit has been a complete dud who ended up on the Larry Bird Squad for 4 years.

Why don't we let Colorado Springs take the projects, since clearly they can develop them better than we can, and we'll just swoop in for their senior year when the players are first-team Pac12 caliber?!

I know you're joking but in all seriousness and on a similar note, one thing that would benefit CU a lot would be if we had a couple in-state JUCOs step up their games in hoops and become feeders for CU.

I'd go for that.

It's amazing that because someone has success in one system, at one level, people blow their lid with unsubstantiated claims that the kids would have the same success in another system, at a higher level.

He had a spot at Colorado if that's really what he wanted--he chose what looks to be the right option for him. Great kid, very good basketball player. Leave it at that and leave the ego trip about a player being good at the door.

Sometimes, the right fit means everything to bringing a player to a new level they hadn't previously reached. CBB is far from a one size fits all deal when it comes to players and their production.

He is gone, not coming to CU. We can obsess all we want and it isn´t changing.

Do we do a similar follow up on other Colorado kids who go elsewhere.

I´m happy for the kid, he has found success. I also don´t have a problem with Tad handling him the way he did.

Stop what?

I’m not even saying anything. Just an update on a kid we “recruited”. we do that all the time.
I don't want to hear about every good game this kid has just because you have a boner for him and are pissed we passed on him

Each thread has an ignore feature. IF you don’t want to know about how he is doing, then I recommend you familiarize yourself with that feature.

Very happy I was wrong about his ability and he's having a successful college career.

Also happy he's not at CU.

Yes, we do. Remember the Grabau kid from Boulder High? Lots of follow up on him.

I plan on following Justinian’s career closely. Regardless of whether people here want him at CU or not, he’s a local kid who is doing very well. My feelings on the subject aside, it’s not uncommon at all for updates to kids recruiting threads to show what they are doing at the school of their choice.

I agree, just do it here instead... https://247sports.com/college/boise-state/Board/Blue-Turf-Board-103542

Seriously...wtf - Sacky isn't breaking some rule. Some/most of us, including me, disagree with Sacky that Jessup should have been recruited harder by Tad, but whatever...he's proven to be much better than what I though. Great. Sacky's close to the kid's family - awesome. I'm happy that he's doing well and congrats to the family. So what if he posts some updates out of being proud of a family friend. Some of you guys are taking his posts WAAAY to ****ing seriously... ...and yes, we do post updates at times out of general interests regarding former football recruits we didn't get.

false. sacky has an axe to grind. there is no arguing that.
You’re the only one arguing that. I have no axe to grind. If people still don’t want him here, I can’t change that and I’m not going to try.

I watched the Oregon/Boise St. game tonight and saw Jessup for the first time. I have a lot of takeaways, but the biggest is that he's in a perfect system at Boise for the player he is. He's a great shooter, knows where to be on offense and he's clearly a trusted decision maker as he's a freshman and he's inbounding the ball. He's got some liabilities too, he's not a great defender (they had to play zone when he was in the game) and he can't get to the rim against P12 speed. Ultimately Boise is able to play zone and let him be a catch and shoot player on offense, making this a perfect fit for him. Let's them showcase his strengths and limit his weaknesses.

For anybody that thinks CU "missed" on Jessup, I just don't think that's a fair assessment or comparison. Coaches have systems, Tad's is playing straight up man to man defense in a very athletically talented league. He isn't going to recruit a guy, let a lone start a guy that requires him to run a zone defense in order to play them. Tad also requires players to create within the offense to get looks, this is why guys like Spencer, Ski and King have all thrived in his offense, they are all great creators.

I think it's great that Jessup is doing well in a system that he can thrive in.

He’s a sophmore. Good post.
