CU doesn't have the budget for an above average assistant coaching staff or advanced recruiting/scouting staff, let alone being a "rehab" destination for failed head coaches.
I think the point was that you wouldn't have to pay him very much.

That part I understood. What I don’t understand is why we would want him here in the first place.I think the point was that you wouldn't have to pay him very much.
A coach isn't going to pay attention to Travis, but their AD and fan base will and did
No. I don’t understand it at all. As far as I can tell, you want to hire Bobo just because he will be available. I don’t see the value he would bring.

You keep saying he’s valuable, but I have yet to see any evidence of that. He’s cheap, yes. That’s where his value begins and ends as far as I can tell.I'm arguing for giving him an Alabama or Georgia type of Quality Control coach/analyst/consultant role if he gets fired from CSU. He's been a play caller for 20 years, and he's gameplanned for us for the last number of years. That could be valuable for us-especially if we're paying him $35-50k (what people in those roles make at Alabama and LSU). Not asking him to call plays, be an on the field coach, or recruit. This shouldn't be hard, and I don't think you understand what they do. Mike Stoops (who ran one of the worst defenses in the country his last couple years at Oklahoma) got one of these gigs at Alabama this past winter.

You keep saying that, but you have yet to explain how any of that makes us better. He’s coached against us - badly. His play calling is meh. We have quality control guys already. You have yet to explain how his experience would add any value to our staff other than to say he’s cheap and would take the job because he wouldn’t have to move. You're arguing with me for the sake of arguing. If you can't see the value in giving a guy with 20 years of experience as a playcaller and has coached against you for the last five years a support staffer role that would pay him no more than 70k if he gets fired at CSU and doesn't want to move his family, I can't help you.

So what is it about his coaching history that leads you to believe his gameplanning and tape-analysis is better than what we have now? You say he won’t be calling plays, and use the fact that he’s been calling plays for 20 years as a justification for hiring him. Whatever game plans he’s put into place previously have not been successful, but you want him to have a hand in putting together our game plans?Analysts don't recruit, call plays, or do any sort of on-field instruction-so I'm not sure how what I've bolded has anything do to with the debate you and I are having. They break down tape and help install gameplans. Paying a guy with 20 years of play-calling experience and 5 years of HC experience the kind of money Alabama, LSU, and Georgia do to do that is a no-brainer.
To anybody outside of the LDS church, absolutely. I still think BYU is held in very high regard for LDS members. More so than Utah.Utah is now a better job than BYU.

I don’t know how that translates to a coaching search. Maybe it doesn’t.
I don’t disagree with anything you’re saying here.Utah has:
-Good facilities from the Olympics
-Decent stadium with one of the best home field advantages in the conference
-P5 conference affiliation
-Much bigger pool of players to recruit from
-Much bigger pool of coaches and assistants to hire from
-Avoid delusional expectations of the BYU fanbase
Not that BYU is a bad job, but it carried a lot more clout when recruiting was regionally based and in a time period where many coaches avoided recruiting Utah due to the mission factor. Players from Utah are signing anywhere and everywhere these days.
And finally, if Whittingham were to be hired by a Michigan type school, the last two coaches at Utah would have jumped to Florida and Michigan. Bronco Mendenhall got the Virginia job.
I think Shaw might leave after this year, if somebody wants him. Probably be the NFL, he can't win a title at Nerd U.Stanford is an enigma. Unlimited resources, nearly zero fan expectations, tough academic standards and ridiculously high cost of living. Shaw could go 6-6 every year and keep his job for 20 years so long as he manages to beat Cal every once in a while.
Is that a better job than Utah? I really don’t know. Maybe. You’re right that Shaw would never leave to go to Utah. I’m not convinced Shaw will ever leave.
Didn't everyone say he soured on the NFL on the way out of San Fran and was a better fit in college because not all the millionaire players had the buy in he wanted.Talk that Harbie soured on coaching CFB after many of his players asked out of the bowl game last season....he is better for the NFL.
But who would Michigan hire if he bolted?

While we are waiting for the carousel to take that first spin by casting off some poor unfortunate into the unemployment line of CFB coaches, I thought I might guess as to who will be in play this year:
1. Harbaugh- UM is a mess. Wiscy plowed them like a midwest corn field. That was ugly. He appears to be on a short leash. When tOSU dismantles them, it will likely be curtains for Jimbo.
2. Chris Ash- Rutgers. He was on the hot seat last year, not off to good start this year.
3. Charlie Strong- Severe downward trajectory. Embarrassed by a very good Wiscy team, lost to a middling GT team, again, not a good start for an embattled HC.
4. Derek Mason- Winning one out of three won't cut it...even at Vandy.
5. Clay Helton- Winning two out of three will not cut it in the land of Troy.
6. Matt Luke- Ole Miss always presumes their team should be more than it is, but even by reasonable standards, Luke is underachieving.
7. Mike Bobo- CSU may not be able to afford to let him go yet. When you look at his overall record, it isn't that bad by CSU standards. But the losses to the flagship, AFA, Boise and Wyoming weigh heavily.
Chad Morriss, Jeremy Pruitt, Chipster Kelly...there are several short timers off to bad starts, but I kind of doubt many of them will be in play unless a truly catastrophic disaster hits.
Michigan will be the big fish to watch this year IMO.

Michigan is interesting to me. I am not sure I'd call them a mess right now, but their boosters and fans are tired of Harbaugh. He has time to turn it around this year, but they are still plagued by the same issues they always have. It sounds like the administration loves Harbaugh, so this could end up being a Tennessee debacle. While we are waiting for the carousel to take that first spin by casting off some poor unfortunate into the unemployment line of CFB coaches, I thought I might guess as to who will be in play this year:
