Montez sucks...time to move on...

Making that FG would’ve been huge. Alas, we squander the momentum.
I don't know if our kicker has the yips, is hurting a bit, or what? Could be something else, I guess. He needs to get a hold of whatever it is. We are having a hard enough time putting points on the board.

I have always been a Montez defender. No question that the guy has the physical talent. Still think his measurable numbers and his arm will get him in a pro camp.

Watching last year and this year though have convinced me that he is much like Paxton Lynch, in fact had things turned differently and he ended up on the right G5 program he could have been Paxton Lynch with huge numbers and a team that carried him to a bunch of wins.

His problem though, like Lynch is that football doesn't seem to be that important to him. Losing doesn't make him angry, mistakes don't drive him to work harder to overcome them. His teammates don't look to him as a guy to lead them out of tough moments.

What was more important to him, his college experience with the frat and the whole experience or his team and winning more games? How driven was he to get better. How often did he show up outside of normal hours to the facility just to watch film with a coach? Did he obsess with fixing his mistakes?

I wonder if somewhere down the road he is going to look back and think to himself that with a different attitude and focus he could have been something special.

He doesn't strike me as the type who will look back and care much about his "failings" on the athletic field. He's clearly a guy that football is just something he plays. It doesnt define him, and if he's happy and healthy in his life, he probably won't think much about football at all after he's done playing, and that is totally ok.

I could care less how good the passing numbers from a QB is as long as that QB really cares about winning and lowering his pads to deliver the blows to opposing defenders.

I'm pretty certain I'm not the only one who misses Sefo on this board. With him, CU would have had a much better record. That is something I'm going to look for in the next starting QB.

Good question. I think it's a bad idea to not give the backups some run. Even if it's just a series, here and there, or certain packages.

Start him v. Stanford, see if he can set the TD record and hope for a win. If CU loses, thus out of bowl contention give Stenstrom the keys and see what he can do. I like Montez, but I can't really defend him after the UCLA debacle. You posters are right, he is just not inspiring the team or has any confidence. The post about MT doing right by a Senior (CU was in position to win v. UoA and USC) is well taken, but once bowl eligibility is gone, absolutely give time to Stenstrom. With our luck this bizarre season, Stenstrom will come in and win the final two games.

I dont give a **** if he gets another record. WTF do records mean when you lose? It means he played in a lot of games. Big ****ing Deal!
I have had enough of Montez. I put almost all of the lack of scoring on him. It doesnt matter what the OC calls when he checks down every time on 3rd an long. I am sure he is not being told to do that. He has no fire and no will to win. He shows he still can not read a "D" and go through his progressions. I am over it.
That being said I know why MT has stayed with him. Benching a 3 year starter tells the team you have given up on the year. Weather its true or not, he doest want to show any sign of quit. I get it. However, that time has passed, time to start looking to the future. Lets see what our young QBs have if anything. I have a feeling Lytle will be gone after this year. We will have Stenstrom and the Freshman coming in. Maybe get a grad transfer.

Depends on how you do it.

Benching a three year starter can tell the team you have given up or benching a three year starter can tell the team than nobody is guaranteed a job, everyone has to earn it in practice and in games.

I think that if MT were to present it to the team in a way that says all the veteran players by nature of being here and sticking with it get their opportunity to keep their jobs. Keeping those jobs though is conditional on their performance just like it should be with any player.

Start Montez against Stanford. If he plays well it is his game, if he isn't meeting expectations then somebody else gets a couple series.

That message is that we want to win with those who give us the best chance to win. The players will respect that, any that don't aren't likely part of our future anyways.

He will start, but I think he might get a quick hook. I think we'll see more than one QB, unless Montez goes nuts, in a good way (y).

I think the hard reality that we are facing is that Lytle and Stenstrom are really bad. That is the only explanation
I think Stenstrom is the Dark Horse....comes from a QB Dad (Stanford) also, relative is a QB at Valor and I have been hearing about Stenstrom for awhile...sounds like Eddie Mac threatened to transfer his kid to another school if he wasn't QB.....many players said Stenstrom was better then McAffery.....politics as usual

Where my thought is. Lytle looks to skinny and intimidated. I know he has come in at bad times, but hey that's when you force the opportunity if you are a stud. Keep Stenstrom add a grad transfer and bring on Lewis. Have a true QB battle with best player plays

I agree....hope that Lewis is a Unicorn and try free agency or I mean the Portal...there is a 4 star QB from USC looking for home right now.

I'm pretty sure Sears has to sit a year. One interesting thing is MacCaffrey, could he come home and play right away if Harbaugh bolts Michigan? A Sears like decision will come down to what type of QB does the staff want-- pocket passer or dual threat.

I'm banking dual threat, but UGA went with Fromm who is a pocket guy. If you are betting on Lewis, then Grad Transfer is the route, where Lewis can beat him out, or sit a season. The Grad Transfer may not shake out until after Spring Ball. Stenstrom should be given a shot once the Buffs are eliminated, at least to see what he can do. UW may be difficult to sit Montez before end of 1st quarter, since it is Senior Day and Montez deserves to be honored, thus start.

I'm guessing we are going to get all new QBs for next season then.

If Stenstrom and Lytle want shots and perhaps think they can grow into NFL prospects, then we probably get all new QBs. If one of them is fine with QB3; an outside shot to play as a Senior or backup; and just wants an education, enjoys Boulder and is maybe interested in coaching then one will stay. In this new Transfer Portal age with so many great/good QB's transferring + Grad transfers that play right away, the Tom Brady scenario, where he stayed 4 years to play 1 year and then was drafted is less and less likely. Who knows?
