'20 CO QB Aidan Atkinson (Verbal to Northwestern)

The sexual assault allegations are highly disturbing and I’m sure Northwestern is considering its options. However, to bring this back to recruiting, CU has not been recruiting this player over the last year, there have been no attempts to flip his commitment to CU, and I don’t believe HCMT re-extended an offer when he started last year.

CU has its QB for this cycle, and frankly he’s a better prospect than anyone in the State of Colorado this year.

Why did they wait for a year?
Was it just reported, in August?
Or whoever reported wanted to wait till he was an adult?

From the post:

"while Aidan and his friends present on the bus claim that she initiated it and was not too intoxicated to consent."

Sorry, that's completely ****ed. The lawyers on this board can correct me if I'm wrong, but the bar for impaired judgement is not terribly high. One doesn't require many drinks to get there. And also there should be an expectation that the boys/men in this situation refrain from any activity if there is any question.

Even this supposed "exculpatory" post from this SR at Fairview is damning. If true, he deserves everything that's coming to him.

This is the way that the law is viewed in this day and age. But I have a question, if everyone was intoxicated, and girl did in fact initiate physical contact, is she not subject to the same laws (assuming the male was also intoxicated)? This is in no way an attempt to excuse anything that happened, but more an honest question.

I have both a son and a daughter, and it’s stories like this that scare the **** out of me for both of them. I remember how 17 yo kids act, and while I think the presumption that a 17 yo should be considered a man is way over the top, the reality is that most people will make that case in these situations. Kids are expected to be mature WAY beyond their age relative to the way it was just 15 years ago.

All I know is that from what my kids have told me, you don't want to be a young man accused of sexual misconduct in Boulder County.
I think you don’t want to be a young man accused of this in any county anywhere. But, yes, I believe Boulder County has a reputation of prosecuting these offenses to the full extent of the law.

I have already started talking to my 12 year old son about keeping control of his hormones keeping his zipper shut.

We have talked about it from the standpoint of respect for the girl but I have also reminded him that this is one of those things where the law is very harsh on the accused. The best way to avoid problems and consequences is not get yourself into those situations to start with.

Good move. I certainly had some drunken encounters when I was younger that I hope wouldn't have ended up with me being arrested if they had happened today, but it is not like we discussed it beforehand. Things tended to move in one direction or the other and whatever happened, happened.

On a similar note as well, even if everything is okay on the legal end, when you're hammered, things like condoms seem to become less important.

This is what you have to do. My fear comes more from the fact that by definition, teenagers are not mature. Mixing hormones and emotions is something that takes experience to master for many. Learning through experience requires that mistakes are made. Some make small mistakes, some make big mistakes, others are just bad apples.

Sounds like unless there is cell phone video it is going to come down to who is more believable. No way to prove how intoxicated either party was at the time, and probably no physical evidence. In any other jurisdiction I would say this probably doesn't get prosecuted due to conflicting accounts, but in Boulder they will probably take it to a jury.

Just a hypothetical could he insist on pressing charges if she grabbed his junk at any time during the encounter?

These cases must be incredibly difficult to investigate when the events are a year old. Hopefully they have some sort of video or other corroborating evidence.

Am I the only one wondering how a bunch of high schoolers managed to hire a party bus and get drunk in the first place? There had to be an adult involved somewhere along the line, didn’t there?
The party bus by itself is usually seen as a way to assure the kids are not driving and drinking when attending an event, since there's a professional bus driver. My experience in raising 4 kids was that the parents who rented these things didn't provide alcohol on the bus, and in fact, it was a rule that there'd be no alcohol (just like at Prom, etc). But we know that there always is alcohol (and other intoxicants). The bus keeps these kids from driving.
