'20 CO QB Aidan Atkinson (Verbal to Northwestern)

Yes- if a girl made unwanted sexual advances towards a boy then she should be held to the same standard. However, even if she did that she still has the right to withdraw consent for any further activity.
Agree 100%

Men (even 17 year old boys) are so much larger and more powerful than their female counterparts that the responsibility in a situation where one or both parties are inebriated can and should rest with them.
I generally agree with this, but the 17 yo kid that puts him/herself in this position often doesn’t have the maturity to be making the right decision when intoxicated. That goes for young men and women. You’re also somewhat making an assumption that the man is physically forcing the woman rather than not seeking consent. Both can result in the same crime being committed, but one is much different than the other as it relates to the clarity by which the law goes about determining fault. I think you’re right for the most part, my only point is that the waters get a fair amount more muddy with adolescence vs adulthood. Mtn is right in that the key is to keep them out of this situation in the first place.

im tired of excusing stuff like this as “teens will be teens.” I think expecting teens to behave while participating in adult activities to an adult standard is reasonable. 17 year olds can drive and they get the same speeding tickets as the rest of us.
This is probably where we disagree a little bit more. You can’t change nature and make a 17yo think and act like a 35 yo. Teenagers have a propensity to do stupid **** in general, and that goes for both sexes. In no way is this to make an excuse for bad behavior, I just think it warrants application of the law in less of a black and white manner for teens vs adults.

please don’t take any of this as me trying to absolve blame for anything that happened on that party bus. More it is a reflection of me being around kids and having some of my own....and seeing that the process by which kids go about making decisions is often times flawed at best. I extrapolate that POV over to a nightmare of a situation like what is being discussed in this thread and I see how things can get murky in a hurry for a lot of people.
I never imagined being so scared of situations like this when I had kids of my own.

1. Yes

2. No absolutely not. A women is equally able to make a decision in the same way a male can when drunk.

3. Grandpa is that you?

I’m sorry, but I’m really upset by I lot of these post. I know nothing about the kid but why have these accusations taken a year! I have 2 daughters and believe me I would have been screaming to high heaven the day after... something seems to be a little off. But some of you aholes are quick to judge even regarding some stupid party bus. A lot of you are condemning the kid based on what!! If all you so called high moral grounded individuals why would it have not been done a year ago.

Check out the Camera. Looks like a counselor/social worker at the school ignored the accusations and buried the report. She has been arrested.

Thanks, I feel like throwing up right now.

Some of you know I work with at risk high school students. I am not a social worker or a mental health professional but I am a legally mandated reporter.

I usually have multiple issues each year that involve things that trigger reporting. My normal procedure is to turn it over to our counselor who is our expert on reporting and on dealing with the individuals involved in the report. I still will always follow up with DHS or with law enforcement to insure that the report has not only been filed but has been entered into the system.

This woman is not only in clear violation of the law but also of her professional ethics. To have a kid come to her reporting an incident involving potential sexual contact and to not follow up but instead to blame the victim is beyond reason. Her career needs to be over (and it now is.) She does also need to be held criminally responsible.

We have no reason to believe that Atkinson has any other incidents he is involved in but what if her failure to follow up had resulted in additional victims in separate incidents, or the victim being victimized again, or more?

There have been reports made to us that turned out to be false. The accusers were dealt with appropriately in those cases. It isn't up to us to make that judgment though. A professional in a school setting has an absolute priority, without compromise, to respond in the manner that protects student safety and to do it without delay. This means getting it into the hands of those with the legal responsibility to investigate.

I hope Aiden comes through this process well enough and the alleged victims Walk on at CU in 2021

You know where the term “feeding frenzy” comes from? It’s a scenario where predators are overwhelmed by prey Go berserk. For example, a large school of fish can cause nearby sharks to go wild, biting anything that moves, including each other or anything else within biting range. The frenzy can be set off by a single drop of blood from the fish.

The point is I think there’s an apt metaphor to be had with respect to that dude coming back and clarifying his post: the sharks are waiting.

I might bite even with clarification
