'20 TNFR SDE Antonio Alfano (SIGNED and ENROLLED with COLORADO)

It really is sad when guys with this much talent can't figure out how to use it.

Interesting contrast between Alfano and McChesney.

McChesney is certifiably nuts. I am very glad that he is not on our coaching staff because he has no filter, he doesn't even know that there is another gear other than full out. Alfano is nuts in a different way. He can't get it out of park. He is a guy who doesn't want to be who he is. He seems like he doesn't want to be a football player, doesn't want to be a college student.

Since high school everyone has taken it for granted that Alfano is destined for the NFL, with every passing event that becomes less likely. McChesney never had that kind of talent that Alfano had but he made a career at both the major college and pro level by working harder than everybody everyday. Everybody in the NFL has talent, some more than others, but you don't make it an stay there without the willingness to put that talent to work.

McChesney ends up deleting tweets and occasionally having to make apologies for reacting without thinking but in the end he won't have any major regrets, he has gotten the most out of what he has.

Alfano could very likely end up as one of those people who spend their entire life regretting what could have been. He could have been a pro, he could have gotten a paid for education, he could have set himself up to do what he wants the rest of his life.
He’ll probably end up a cop.

Welp, good luck Antonio, hope the best for you. You might want to figure out, it's not all about you, it's about those next to you as well.

This kid hasn’t been in a full-speed, competitive game since high school...and has been at two schools already with out a meaningful snap of playing time. All the videos made, showing ambitions to go pro...yet he hasn’t put forth a consistent effort to pursue this at the college level.
Hopefully he gets it together, and puts together a season to help send him into the pros.

None of the above. Driven guy- has had some personal stuff go on and is dealing with that. If he comes back and is ready to go, he could be a buff great. I hope he figures this out and we get to be apart of him tapping into his potential.
Hope for our sake but more for him that he gets it figured out.

Like Burrito said, "life before football". I don't know what his circumstances are with that. Hopefully, he gets them figured out soon, comes back, and wrecks some folks this fall.

Realistically you have to think this fall is out- the main plan was to have him perform well this spring in school and use that this summer to get him eligibility. COVID may create unusual circumstances for a waiver for immediate eligibility but I suspect he’s a year away

Most overused and unoriginal gif available. It must DIE!
Overused, for sure. But entirely appropriate in this situation. I’d peg the chances of Alfano ever seeing the field at CU at slightly worse than Lloyd’s chances with Mary.

Not calling bull****, but just curious if you are actually in the know with his situation? He attended 3 different high schools in 4 years, went to Bama where he just stopped showing up to practice and classes and then transferred to CU where he once again stopped showing up to practice and classes. It seems to be a pattern of behavior over the last 5-6 years, across a lot of different situations where he's had a lot of support and resources, and people with high vested interest in him succeeding.

Yep. Anything short of total skepticism is either being completely naive or willfully ignorant. I'll believe he's a Buff when I see his number on the field and not a second sooner.

He is our modern day Lee Foliaki and Russell Lovett.

Agree with everything you said Scheck. I think Alfano working with Matt McChesney is probably a good thing. At this juncture, I hope the high vested interest is in him succeeding as a person/student, not necessarily the star power on the football field. Football would be a bonus, but it is still a huge jump to college and even larger jump of the NFL. As an observation, with these blue-chip stars who transfer from school to school, football is the initial priority, but to succeed in college you also have to perform in the class-room and grow as a teammate. That growing as a teammate is tough when you transfer school to school. So is being coached up, if you have new coaches at every stop, either by choice or with MT bolting, not by choice. Also, academics is tough when you have so many moving parts.

I sort of feel bad for him with the crush of huge expectations and the many set-backs. The waiver was never a guaranty in the 1st place. In football not many guys get by on talent alone. I'm not sure if he is just overwhelmed, things just fell apart at UA, and he needs a season or two pick up the pieces, rebuild his life or just grow up some. If he stays out of trouble and can evolve, I think KD, LC, RG and the CU family could still be a great fit for him. CU has been a great place for some of those guys over the past few seasons. In the interim, I think that we have to drop our weight of football expectations, and hope he can grow and just see what happens.

Certainly, this is a difficult time for all; and it is a positive development that he is staying in-state to try and work things out. I hope that he still has a deep love of football and the rest can slowly come together. I'm not going to write him off as a Folaki, Lovett, or P.T. Gates; as he made it here and it sounds like for fall semester, he kept it together. With CoVid, this Spring Semester without football or the classes routine must have been tough--if he were suspended or not. I pray for him.

Even if I don’t know the same message stands- this kid obviously has non-football related issues going on that he is tending to. The previous amount of resources and accommodations made are irrelevant, I just hope he becomes a buff great.
