Official 2020 Fall Camp Thread

This is not surprising. He seemed to be one of the 4-5 guys from the 2020 recruiting class who are physically mature to contribute/play a lot from day one.
Agree. CU needs more size snd physical play at CB. This is very good news.

I get that. So, CU is running Chev's O from 2018? Probably not. If they are importing that O, color me disappointed since CU won't have Viska to bail them out.
Shouldn't be hard to figure out older guys that have worked with OC can pick up playbook and read Ds faster/better than a true freshman.

Did I miss something where Gonzales was switched from safety to corner? His profile says he was a safety, but all the chatter lately is about him playing CB. Just wondering if I missed an interview with one of the coaches or something where it was discussed that he’s moved to CB.

I think Lytle gets the start, if it is Lewis I see both Noyer and Lytle transferring. Lytle would still have 2 years to play somewhere else.
No, they aren't both transferring no matter what happens.

Noyer already looked at the transfer portal when they moved him to safety. If he had other P5 schools interested in him for any reason other than a backup job he would have been gone.

Lytle is going to find the same thing if he looks to transfer. If he is dead set that he wants to start then he better like bus rides because his options are going to be lower end G5 or more than likely FCS schools.

And this off season is going to be even tighter because with the free year for everybody teams are going to be able to keep their upper class back-ups and the senior starters who would have graduated but aren't quite NFL level will mostly be back.

Potentially one could transfer but only if he wants to start so badly that he is willing to make a major drop in program level.

I think people automatically assumed he would be switched to safety, but pretty sure he was a CB in high school and it appears to be his natural position.

He has been a CB the whole time he was recruited, on the roster, and since camp has started. I think we presumed he would possibly play safety because there is absolutely no depth there.

Obviously not much info is out there to read into anything, but from the small tidbits I am reading, I feel as if the defense is way, way ahead of the offense, which is not surprising in the least. I think part of that is probably just keeping the QB competition under complete wraps. However, I get a sense that Tyson Summers is pretty excited about this years defense.

I don't have a sub to DNVR but this sounds promising for the ILB group.

Landman seemed to get better last year in coverage, but I wonder if we see a change there? I doubt it as it doesn't sound like the defense isn't changing much, but that was a massive weak area last year.

Also, I thought it was interesting about the dline changing to a single gap approach. That makes sense to me as you really do have playmakers on the dline and you want them causing havoc rather than just taking up blockers.

Mostly fluff, not sure there's much to read into here. Summers feels more at home coaching the ILBs rather than the safeties. Tweaking the roles of the ILBs to give them more freedom. Switching from a 2 gap to a 1 gap scheme to try to generate pressure earlier. The gap scheme switch was suggested by Chris WIlson.

I can't help but feel like the Buffs will have a great defense this year. Summers seems to be improving and has surrounded himself with a vet staff. Wilson is a huge coaching upgrade with the best talent and depth on the DL that we have seen in 10 years. The LBs are solid and deep. Corner has some question marks for sure and the depth at safety is concerning but there is a ton of potential and hopefully our stout front 7 will take some of the pressure off the DBs this year. Perry, Trujillo, and Gonzalez have me excited for the DB future.

If they stay healthy in the secondary, I don't see any reason why this defense can't be top half in the conference.

Why wouldn't CU play Lewis right away if they think he's halfway close to Lytle ?
Isn't this late fall schedule a 'freebie' anyways ?

Because he won't be in a spot where he can execute the offense early on. That's what Langsdorf was getting at last week when he talked about the lack of a real spring hurting BL

Has there been any Alfano sightings during camp? I don't know if he was cleared to play, practice or workout with the team.

Suggestion TSchek and all, cause I'm a little slow on the intake I immediately go to KD Nixon in my head, throw the HC on to KarlDorrell (HCKD).

For about 30 seconds I was wondering why KD Nixon was the figurehead head to report on any player's eligibility...
Nixon is playing and coaching. First ever player coach at CU. Didn't you know? Hear half of the offensive plays are flea flickers.

Ouch. Sadly, I don't disagree with lots of his points with the exception of the WR group being mediocre.
It is almost like no one understands the importance of having a coach that bleeds black and gold at the helm.

Even the media continues to overrate Montez. Are people just scared to call any multi-year starter "bad" or what?
