2020-2021 Bowl Games Thread

Strong argument for expansion.
Expansion wouldn’t make things better in the short term, but in the long run, as other teams start recruiting better and elite players aren’t solely focused on 3-4 programs, it would help create parity. That’s the theory anyways

It was 3rd and 13 and they were close to the sticks. Completely disagree.
You cannot spear a dude with the crown of your helmet, period. If he doesn’t understand that running the top of his helmet into a guy’s side is against the rules, that’s on him.

Nah. That was a dirty hit. Speared him with the crown of the helmet in his kidney. He could’ve wrapped Fields up, especially since Fields was bracing himself for contact.

I dunno man - Fields was going to spin. I find it hard to believe that Skalski has the body control to actually spear Fields in the kidneys intentionally. Looked to me like an unfortunate hit.

By the rules, however, it was targeting. Which is why targeting is a ****ty rule.

Spray numbing pain killer on your side and suck it up. Fields is really hurting bad. Hard to see him effective in the second half if he cools down at all!

Skalski lowered his helmet and used his helmet as a weapon. He wasn’t caught off guard.

If he slows down and wraps Fields up, Fields gets the first down.

And if Fields is a RB, they never even stop to look for targeting.
A guy who’s already been suspended from a huge game for targeting should know the rule. Skalski being out of position doesn’t justify a dirty hit. He had the option to wrap up Fields. He chose not to do it and wanted to exact a kill shot on Fields. Obvious dirty hit and obvious ejection.

Watching coaches pull down their masks to talk to players inches away is infuriating.
I probably shouldn't ask since it's a sensitive topic, but aren't the masks a farce for the coaches and teams? They tested negative in order to be there.

You must have money on OSU. I have no dog in this fight and it was a bull**** call.

Maybe. Like I said, Fields was trying to spin off of him. Seems to me that if he doesn't spin, Skalski's shoulder goes into Fields' midsection, his head is on his right hip, and nothing is wrong with the tackle.

Whatever though. He's gone.

If he keeps his head up and drives through he gets the stop without the penalty. The crown of the helmet rule is to protect the tackler as well as the runner. Obvious foul. They drill those hits all the time and practice hitting with the eyes up. Lowering the helmet like he did is a dirty and dangerous play that has no place in the game. No excuse.

i have no idea what to think about what will help at this point, especially as we sit in the p12.

take the p5 champs, 2 highest ranked p5 non-champs, and have a play between the 2 highest ranked g5 for the last spot?

or expand to 16 and take the conference champs from maybe 8 conferences and have the other 8 held for the highest ranked non-conf. champs?

what would fix this?

No dude - I have no bet on this game. I post all of my bets in the CFB Betting thread. It’s the rule. You may not like the rule, but it was clear as day dirty hit. You act like it would be impossible for him to tackle Fields by wrapping him up.

I know the rule and the reason for it. And I've never seen it called on an open field tackle where the qb didn't slide.

Proper technique is to see your target. He intentionally lowered his head in his approach. He intended to hit him that way. The rule has been around his entire college career and probably high school also. It was dirty and intentional.

Are you advocating that players be able to lower their head and make contact with the crown?

That’s dangerous. There’s a sticker in the helmet that says not to do that.
