Official Texas A&M Pregame / Game Thread

don’t blame the guy in charge for hiring someone not qualified for the job. Blame the fact that the guy in charge shouldn’t be in charge at all. That makes sense
The point is that it’s a reflection of disfunction, which if I’m not mistaken, is the point you’ve been making all along.

Re: Chiv, the blame does NOT fall on him.

This is what happens when you recruit assistants and allow them to have leverage, and then lose a good HC coach at an inopportune time, and you’re forced to scramble to fill the HC spot. Guys end up with jobs that are above their head.
This is pretty much right. He was promoted beyond his abilities.

Should be have refused the promotion?

The blame lies on the people responsible for promoting him.

Mel Tucker is a good head coach? Really?
he focused on recruiting and we had our best talent come into the program in the last, oh, 15 years or so. maybe more.

his x's and o's were not that great, but who cares?

kd's x's and o's i think are well above average. it isn't enough.

Coach Mac was often considered a bad game day coach. he won with recruiting and discipline and heart. same with gb.

mm had the one good year on the backs of an NFL talent secondary that that staff developed over 4 years.

talent rises to the top. sure, teams can jump up and beat more talented teams.... it is what make college football great. we almost got to see it today.

over time, without top 25 recruiting classes, one after another, this is not go to getting better for CU.

A bad head coach can hire good coordinators. Example A: Hawkins and Peterson. Example B: Helton and Harrell. Dorrell is at fault for promoting Chev. Full stop.

Edit: re-reading your post, I agree. Not Chev’s fault he got a job he should never have gotten. He’s trash but a good coach wouldn’t have given him the chance. Apologies.

Agree with most things here that that was just full blown disappointment.

But one of my favorite things on this board is laughing with y’all at the utter incompetence of amateur football for all but a few teams in the general thread week to week. It legitimately happens every week. Think it’s a little silly to say aTm is massively overrated because they struggled with us. I saw a lot of NFL talent on their team and we fought hard to keep it a game. It happens. Iowa State got Ferentz’d at home!

KD took the job under the condition that Chiv was his OC, no? Directed by who?

EDIT: Never mind. We’re on the same page

I don't think A&M is completely overrated, but that backup QB looks very suspect. That is enough to derail a season, even with a phenomenal defense.

Yeah you can't think outside the box.
Question Mark What GIF by MOODMAN

Sweet! Got a counter point or you gonna go back to typical AB groupthink?
And this staff recruited how much of that talent on the field today?
I assumed the answer Duff ultimately pointed out was evident enough not to have to say? I didn't know we were entrenched in a high school debate conversation.
Not the point. It's lazy butthurt groupthink because you think we settled with Dorrell. Play calling is the conversation we need to be having right now
Is that not the conversation everyone is having already?

For recruiting, the concern being pointed out as an issue AT THIS POINT is the lack of focus on weak/shallow depth positions like OT that haven't been addressed through this staff's recruiting. All of the contributors are guys from previous staffs.

The bigger concern with recruiting is long term recruiting and a lack of emphasis on it with this staff, especially in terms of staff and mentality. We've seen nothing from Dorrell to show this isn't going to be any different than his time at UCLA. Decent with another staff's recruits, then bad with his own. The fact the AD is getting involved with recruiting shows they see it as an issue as well.

I've felt this way since day one. There's a difference between groupthink and recognizing a historical trend and lack of ability to address consistent issues/weaknesses.

Yeah we are. But To answer your initial question, it wasn’t on condition he was OC, it was on condition he was retained. No clue why KD thought it necessary to promote 🤷🏻‍♂️

Well, I am not one for moral victories, that was a loss, but I did see some progress.

Wray makes the OL quite a bit better, he is already the best OL. Wiley at Rt is better than last week. The O was clicking by using BLew as a runner. So of course, the stupidest thing to be done will be done...make him a pocket passer in the 2d half. Chiv is not the answer, unless it is a profoundly stupid question.

The D played really well. Landman is a force, Barnes played well, Guy Thomas played a great game as did the entire DL. Gonzo is all P12 caliber. Blackmon and Bethel showed well too.

The 4th down call was the right decision, wrong play.

aTm is not a top 5 team, top 20, yes. If they had a QB who could hit water from a boat, this one would have ended in the 3d.

Overall, much better than I expected. I thought a swift, firm kick to the buttocks would be issued by aTm, but the boys rose to the occasion and played with heart and grit. I am proud of them.

In the end, we see what we have always seen. HCKD can gameplan and prepare a team like a house a fire, but could not recruit his mother to Sunday dinner. That will be the end of it. The talent gap will keep CU from being more than 5/6 in the P12S with HCKD.
