Official Colorado vs Minnesota game Thread

Giving Carter a series or too for a few weeks is a reasonable idea-Lewis looks lost right now, and that seems to at least me like it could be good for BL.

Darrin Chiaverini has to be demoted tomorrow. I don't give a **** if Dorrell calls plays or has Langsdorf do it-but Chev can't. His position group's play has been unacceptable, and his play calling is a disaster. Time for him to go back to the WR coach/RC role-because that's his ceiling as a coach.
I don't give a **** about giving Carter a series or two, fine. Thing is, you aren't helping your starter, at all. We had minus yards rushing? That's not pitiful, it's inexcusable. I can't say what I want to say, so I'll stop there.

Lewis is so petrified to make even basic decisions right now that I don't think we have another choice other than demoting Chev. That in itself makes a DC's life really easy-stop the run and CU can't do anything offensively.

Lewis is taking the snap and waiting for something bad to happen. He has no confidence and is overwhelmed by what is going on in front of him.

I would go well past the idea of a few series for Carter and actually play him the majority of the game. At least he is able to run the plays he knows how to run.

Give Lewis some limited time with plays he is fully prepared for and that require a minimum of decision making. Let him get his confidence back and slow the game down for him.

Today I was at a point where I would have rather seen one of our walk-ons go out there than watch Lewis suffer more humiliation.

They definitely don't throw the kid away. he has talent and if he gets right mentally and emotionally he could be a quality QB, he just needs a reboot in the processor because right now he is a blue screen.

I don't believe that for even one second. This is a WCO that Dorrell has been around for 20 plus years. The last time Chev was OC, the offense looked nothing like this.

I am not absolving Chev, he is awful and will get fired at some point, but you are just rearranging the deck chairs unless you completely revamp the offense. This starts at the top.
If you are right then KD must go.

Dude, your not telling me something I don't already know. I wonder why Lewis is petrified, we couldn't block a good FCS team. Say we played NDSU today, they would've beat the living **** out of us. My biggest problem isn't that we lost. My biggest one is, they busted us in the mouth and we didn't respond at all. That's a problem.

Statements like this always strike me as funny. Yes, there's some truth but good/great coaches win a lot more than they lose and aren't often in a position where they would even consider blaming the players. It's pretty easy to take the blame when you're confident that you'll win next week.
Actually to a good coach, winning and losing is only a byproduct. All great coaches have a process that they implement regardless of wins or losses.

that process involves evaluating the effectiveness of what is being taught

Lewis is fine if he was running even average plays that work to his advantage.
If he is struggling, run RPO until he gets a few hits
We are a running team
Run sets up pass
We did not run the first play of the game or what seemed like at all the first half any RPO
If Lewis gets hurt running so be it, he is a big boy

You can't play not to get hurt.

If what Lewis does well involves risking getting hurt you do it anyways. He isn't doing the team any good if what he does do doesn't help us.

At that point we would be better off with Carter or a walk-on.

The fact that he hasn’t had any interceptions (other than the one he threw against aTm ashe was being tackled) is actually a negative

He had a couple today that should have been.

Shorter passes where the man was open but by the time he released the ball the defender had recovered. At least two of those I remember the ball going off the defenders hands.

My point is that fear is dominating his game right now.
What’s he afraid of though? He doesn’t really even know what making mistakes at this level feels like because he doesn’t really do anything. He mostly just hands it off and takes sacks, with the occasional take on a read option. I’d rather have a QB who is at least a willing participant in the game.

These late throws are a part of that fear.

I get your point I think. Confident QBs will have some INTs because they are trying to make something good happen and they a confident in their ability to fit the pass into the window. Some of those passes get picked.

Lewis today was trying to not have something bad happen. He was hesitating on almost every throw (the only ones that seemed he didn't were a couple of designed roll-outs) and not trusting his eyes or his receivers to be open.

He is a mess. That is player with absolutely no confidence.

He is what Connor Wood became. He has been beaten into submission.

Sorry, but good/great coaches are defined by wins and losses. You can look at them and say that this attribute or that process made them great but they aren’t great if they lose most of their games regardless of the process.

I've been a fan of CU ever since Eric Bieniemy's Frosh year. Now I haven't seen every game since he stepped on campus in 87 but by far, this has been the WORST game I've ever watched them play. HC Dorrell needs to fire somebody... either the OL Coach (Rodrige) or our OC (Chev). Somebody's head needs to roll because the offense has been anemic especially the passing game since game 1. The defense can't hold up without offensive help. FIX IT NOW... conference play starts next week.

To quote Rino from another thread: Never.
A number of years, my husband has uttered words like "maybe I'm done with CU football - I will get my Saturdays back." Yet every late summer, the season tickets appear...

At the end of the first half this is where our receivers were on 2nd and 3rd down about the time the pass was made.

I have a solution. I think a big part of the problem is defenses know exactly what we are doing. So, the night before the game, roll some dice and randomly select one of the players to call all the offensive plays. No one will have any idea what we are going to do.
You truly cannot do any worse than zero points and 63 total yards.

Is anyone else feeling like they're finally done at this point? I stuck through the depths of the depths. I was in the stand throughout the Hawkins era, through Embree and 2012 and the MacIntyre years. Today I just turned the game off and left. I've never done that before. It's like something snapped, but it wasn't even a visceral reaction, it was more of a kind of peaceful apathy. I haven't even checked the scores of any of the other games today.
I am not done, but today was the first time I ever left a game early due to the performance of the team. When the team gave up after the Stanley muff, then I gave up and left. This was truly one of the worst performances I have ever witnessed.
