What's our "rock bottom"?

The news about Rice today isn’t good but shouldn’t surprise. KD is basically starting over again with his coaching staff. Why stay when you know you can go somewhere else where you have more confidence in the success/stability of the coaching staff? Once the dust settles - which won’t happen until fall - we’ll be who were are and KD will hopefully be judged on the results. I didn’t like his initial coaching staff but felt he was put behind the eight ball due to the timing of his hire. I liked what he did after his first year overhauling the defensive staff but hindsight suggests he should have done the same on offense. Now he’s had his chance on offense so no more excuses. I like his coaching hires this off-season. Sanford was underwhelming but matches his philosophy so it makes sense to me. Are we at rock bottom? I don’t think so. Those Embree years were bad and were rock bottom for me. We didn’t even belong on the same field half the time. Are we moving upward? Clearly not. We’re basically running in place at this point which is frustrating because it means an 11th/12th place finish every year. If we are in this same place next year, KD should be replaced.

Stepping back to take in the bigger picture…it’s hard for me to see where college football goes and if doing what it takes to compete even makes sense for programs like CU. The sport needs a massive regulatory overhaul and until that happens maybe it’s not worth the investment? All non-SEC college presidents need to get control of things before Congress steps in. There is simply too much money involved for them not to do something especially with NIL coming online. As has been mentioned, college football needs a centralized, regulatory body whose sole focus is to keep the playing field level, lobby state governments to standardize NIL practices, and produce a multi-billion dollar playoff system. I have to believe every non-SEC conference is talking about this behind closed doors. Surely they can see the handwriting on the wall.

Reasonable. To the bolded above, I guess the big warning sign for me is that by all accounts, BRice seems like a great kid. He had legit options coming out of high school, but he wanted to come here. He seems like a kid that wants to build a program. He has a name (the greatest football player of all time in my opinion), and he has proven that he has talent. He stuck around after MT left and has invested in this program. And now, after a round of offensive staff hires, he has decided/is being allowed to leave. He might be wrong, but the leadership of this program must be seeing things that a lot of others are not.

I see another part to it.

Not only does Dorrell not put the effort into recruiting but he also fails to build the loyalty and comradery that you see in successful programs. I don't see his players buying in to him or buying into his program and vision.

This makes it easy to leave.

The detached, taking care of business model may work on an NFL team with grown men, contracts, and regular roster turnover but the in the college game emotion isn't as important as talent but it is a key component.

Honestly, I think it's pretty much reached the point where it's not a bad cycle but a fact. CU football is dead.

I'm to the point where I think that CU should start talking to KU and other P5 schools that can't or won't commit to football to form a western version of the Big East. I think football has become a waste of time and money for the CU athletic department while the sport has become completely misaligned with university values.

So, at least for me as a fan and observer, I believe it hit rock bottom a long time ago, it's a grave, and I was unwilling to admit it to myself for a lot of years. It's past time for me to move on and focus on the other CU sports programs.

One would like to hope it was refusing to pay an actual coach and then hiring a wilted manikin to impersonate and hoping nobody noticed.
 
Here’s my single 2022 contribution thanks to all the turmoil on this staff and roster I needed to get caught up on.

This program is dead, I held out hope for years they could figure it out, it’s clear they cannot. I’ve given up, there is nothing to cheer for anymore. It’s almost embarrassing to say you’re a fan of this team.

Yep. Can’t even be fixed by someone with a whole bunch of deep pockets on their shorts.

How long will Jedd Fisch last at Arizona before he is poached by a Big time program? He is killing it in recruiting.

We hit rock bottom when Hawkins got another year. Just been bouncing along since then.
 
Does anyone else get the feeling that the program is spiraling and:
1. PD has no idea.
2. RG, LC and KD either think there's no problem or have absolutely no idea how to fix it.

They have lost all control of both the narrative among the players and the direction the program is headed and they don't know how to get it back.

It's not that they're actively driving it into the ground, they just don't know what to do to change the direction.
 
Is there any reason to believe this might actually get bad enough that Dorrell feels compelled to resign? That’s all I got.
