2022 Transfer Portal

To be fair. CU is not the only school having problems with transfers. But that didnt stop people from saying KD is incompetent, players don't want to play for him blah blah blah. So many malicious agendas against KD. This level of discontent wasn't direted at Hawkins when he was losing early in his coaching stint at Colorado. What we do know is the players and parents like KD. And CU is still working on transfers. It will be difficult to get recruits when so called CU fans themselves do negative recruiting for other schools. Parents and potential stduents do visit sites like this and see the vitriol on these pages, After saying that I don't know yet if KD is the guy long term. But I am fair and understand there are factors like NIl and etc. Will give KD time to build his team. We still have Spring and Summer to add players and get better.

There are definitely lots of players leaving lots of schools. Gross transfer numbers aren’t the story though.

There aren’t many schools with sitting head coaches losing all of their top starting talent.

What we’re experiencing right now clearly points to poor leadership imo. If the man’s feeble attempts at media and fan relations, as well as ego driven lack of accountability are any indicator, I would say he hasn’t been able to foster a culture or inspire his players.

I’m personally taken aback by the brash avoidance of vision, responsibility, and accountability taken by our leadership. All we hear is “not a problem”, “this happens everywhere”, etc. Since the hiring of Dorrell, all we’ve been given is a mountain of excuses and been told to look away, or fans have even been blamed. It’s pretty gross ‘leadership’ really

and now I’m sure my leadership rant has given away who I was on 247 lol

Yes, no, yes. Under the rules, once a player enters their name in the portal, other schools are free to directly contact that player. The portal rules also eliminated the ability for the current school to block players from transferring to other schools. Many kids enter the portal without knowing if anyone is interested in them, but others know either from direct or indirect contact. Also it would be naive to think schools don't contact kids until they are in the portal. There is always a back channel.
thanks

Through the CU microscope, the portal looks devastating (and yes, we don’t really have the talent to plug and play), but there’s quite a few teams out there that are hemorrhaging pretty bad as well. USC, Ark.
USC is turning over because of a steller coaching hire. They are are also adding as good, if not better recruits and transfers. Please don't put them in anywhere near the same category as us right now. Just don't. Arkansas has already added some good talent, is actually VERIFIED to be in the last 2 on some some really good (SEC level) talent at the moment. And us...?

One of the big surprise effects of the Covid Experience, were the millions of Americans who decided not to return to their old jobs. Scary, unpredictable world - 'I want something better right now.'

I wonder how similar the transferring players' emotions and mindsets are.

It's like people don't understand development, progess based on performance. It's, I want what I want, and soon.

Your bull**** gets funnier every post.

He's a confused young man. (but some people can't pass up the chance to piss on another)
It might be completely the move he needed, I hope so. His brother being one of the best to ever play at CU imho, compounded by some personal issues he may have, I don't want to speculate. That's a lot to live up to under those circumstances because those eyeballs were on him as soon as he got to CU. At least with the people who give a damn.

yikes

I hope CU has balls enough to play the tampering game right back. Reach out to 4 and 5 stars who didn’t play a ton their freshman season and ask them if they want to start and have a ton of PT for a P5 team. Basically, hey we’ll make you CFB star next year as a prominent piece in our system.

A guy like Bru McCoy would be a perfect example. Be proactive.

Great idea, but as a serious question, when has CU ever been ahead of the curve on any athletic endeavor? Everything moves at a snail's pace up there.

I get your point, and generally agree that the coaching staff needs to be proactive. But, why would someone like McCoy come to CU?
  1. Unmitigated disaster across the OL which will continue to translate into zero time for the QB to find open receivers
  2. Very questionable QB talent to begin with even without #1 above being a factor
  3. Ultra questionable coaching in general and a new OC who has a bias toward running the ball
  4. He’s seen first-hand, from the opposing sideline, what CU is and Is not
McCoy ain’t coming within 500 miles of Boulder.

He bailed on Texas, washed out at SC when Riley obviously decided he wasn’t worth keeping, and he now has one more chance to actually prove he can play. He’s exactly the kind of damaged goods CU should be pursuing and I would bet he’s getting close to being a guy that blue bloods are no longer interested in

There's still a lot of space between "blue bloods" and "worst non-service academy passing attack".

On transfers out this is a dumpster fire as soon as Gonzo and Rice went it. Brou is very good but for me 1 tick lower on the panic scale than the other 2.
I will give KD and Co until Spring ball to add portal guys to the positions I’ve mentioned a couple times here. 1 reason for optimism is I actually really like the position coach moves (not OC) KD has made so far.
If the new coaches can inject some life into recruiting and portal incoming transfers then we can at least hope to avoid a 1 or 2 win season. If we think this roster is bad now imagine a 1 win season with a lame duck head coach who will have no leverage with the AD to make coaching changes and everyone knows CU can’t afford his buyout. Death kneel.

If it was a culture issue outside of the locker room, we would be seeing a mass exodus from the basketball team as well. This is an issue with the football program and the leadership therein.
that's a really good point. I don't think any other sports are experiencing an excessive (by Pac-12 or P5 standards) number of transfers out.
