2022 Transfer Portal

LOL at anyone thinking we can get good players from the portal. There are several issues working against us. First and most obvious, is that you can’t just log into the portal and pick your team. It requires recruiting still and we’ve shown we be ****ing**** at that. Second, even if we could recruit, we’d have to explain why many of our best players and starters are transferring out. This ties into the first issue too. We can’t even recruit guys who are literally on our team and already playing. Prove me if I’m wrong, but starters aren’t common transfer candidates. It’s usually people looking for more playing time, or maybe homesick and other reasons, but being a starter is typically huge upside to stay. Giant red flag for anyone in the portal who hears from us. I have a hard time thinking of ANY D1 school who looks like a worse place to land than here.

I honestly am getting a lot of joy when thinking about not having to buy tickets for next season or plan my fall around the program. Only game I’m going to is @Minnesota with @sweaty teets and @Darth Snow . It’s probably the only game I’ll even watch. Wheels are off. Driver is dead. CD player doesn’t work.
Hanging out with those dudes in the TC sounds like fun!

From a couple players when I asked just now what's going on. One current player, one former (former as in just played here this last season and is now gone).

I asked what's the reasoning behind this and here was the response.

"Players don't like Dorrell and the program doesn't give us what we need as athletes."

Asked to expound on what they don't give.

"They neglect injured players if you aren't a major contributor, we see the guys Dorrell is recruiting and they are trash. A lot of us (defensive players) don't like Coach Wilson either.

As a current student, I would like to know where Rick George's office is. How is this dude still employed?
The fact he got an extension and huge raise in Sep 2021 unanimously approved by the CU BOR on the heels of him doing the KD contract and then being the only athletic department in the conference to need a Covid shortfall bridge loan from the conference tells us all we need to know about the leadership of Phil and the Board.

My question is: how has all of this been going down in this program without a single piece of local journalism discussing the overarching issues, beyond simply noting who is coming and going. That is a massive failure of reporting. Maybe I missed some big expose’, but I doubt it.

There are serious questions surrounding this program none of which are being reported on.

I watched the press conference when KD shut down B. Howell for having the temerity to ask about a couple of other players leaving. It was a bizarre overreaction in the midst of a completely congenital presser. This was the second red flag for me (pushing the photographer being the first).

This was back in December, a day after signing day, if I recall. Even then he was super touchy about losing players or even discussing it. Increasingly, he begins to reveal an underlying animosity for having to explain himself in anyway or discuss anything about the program that doesn’t fit within his “vision,” whatever the hell that is.

I have changed my assessment on him over the past month. This is not a leader of young men. I have grown to believe the rumors about his respect (or lack thereof) among many of the players.

So, why do we only get “nice” reporting, even after KD treats reporters poorly, for no reason. Time for some real journalism here.

There’s no money in local sports journalism. You can tag along as a journo-cheerleader for the local team, and people make money on sports radio, national sports media, or podcasts. Newspapers are mostly dead, and barely anyone watches the sports on the local news.

No doubt true to an extent. However, Coach KD press conferences do have a regular number of attendees and “members of press,” which I assume require some form of “credentialling” from CU media to attend. Whether those “reporters” produce written, on air, or podcasted reports they all are present to produce some form of reporting, however meager their ultimate pay.

Tne coaches will have to earn their salary next season. Look at the DB roster.

CB:
Striker(SR) The guy hasn't played for CU.
Bethel Jr(JR) hopefully he is back, right now he is expected back,. Who knows with the new transfer portal.
Niko Reed (SO)
Moore(SO)
Wiggins(FR)
Mills(FR)
Harris(FR)
Oliver(FR)

Safeties
Torren Pittman(JR)- He has played on special teams. Hopefully he takes the next step
Isiah Lewis(SR) - hopefully he is back. He is another 5th year senior that could transfer or graudate.
Woods(SO)
Taylor(SO)
Dixson(FR)
X Smith (FR)
Oake Salevea(FR)

Still think the team can use one upper classman safety and one upper clasman corner.

Guys bailing left and right isn’t all NIL related (evident by many going to smaller schools) HCKD appears to have lost the locker room, no coming back from that if it is true.

Appears?

So you dont know.

Alabama had several guys go into the transfer portal a day after the national championship game. Did Saban lose the locker room?

Young corners play with no fear. But there are also a lot of growing pains. Hopefully Moore and Niko Reed can take another step. They played well last season.

At least the next coach can say he inherited a program that was burned to the ground and will be 100% correct.

The p;rogram was already in a bad shape before KD arrived. Even EB rejected the job. It will take time to rebuild the program. Can't be done overnight. Some folks think any one can come in and wave a magic wand "Abracadra" and magically the team will win games and there will a bunch of so called 5 star blue chip freshmen ready to come to CU. It took the Original Coach Mac a while to build the program. It will take any coach 2 or 3 years minimum with the restrictions facing CU.

Let’s see, the 2022 defensive front seven has some experience but most of that involves not getting to the QB and getting torched by underneath crossing routes. The 2022 defensive backfield is, uh, scary inexperienced and without QB pressure from the front seven they’re gonna get lit up. A lot. New schemes will be introduced so players will be out of position and confused for a while. Points allowed, yards allowed per game are gonna be epic.

Then there’s the 2022 offense. Questionable skill positions that are either mostly untested and/or awaiting giant leaps of improvement. Some true freshmen will have to play, if not start. Yikes. Add in new schemes and terminology. Gonna be lots of mistakes, penalties for a while. The OL? Uhmm, yeah. We’re gonna kinda hafta get used to that being the worst we’ve ever seen. So, maybe we won’t actually see much of the offense in 2022 cuz every play is likely to involve some kind of jail-break from the opposing defense, blowing up any sort of “play” CU was attempting.

Punting and place kicking should be good. The punter will get a lot of work. The place kicker, not so much.
