CU vs. UCLA

There’s a theory going around betting circles that KD will coach his arse off and somehow keep it close.
I wonder if the proponents of this theory would make a prop bet on if the cameras show KD actually opening his mouth to say something to anyone during the game.

I have a theory that KD is a ventriloquist and he is actually talking nonstop into the mic throughout the game but his lips arent moving, so much so that our superb coordinators don't have time to think to call their intended plays that would actually work...or something like that.

If Dorrell rotates the QBs every three series. I’m dead. 😂
Not to worry.

KD's got it figured out. In an effort to develop consistency and offensive rhythm, he's going to name a QB1, QB2 and QB3. The numbers denote which down each one plays every series.

I am not one who subscribes to that theory, but in a pursuit of value, some folks look for reasons to rationalize backing a long home dog.
To subscribe to that theory you’d have to also believe he hasn’t been coaching his hardest during the first three games, so I’m with you.

At halftime?

Given that they have said McCown has had very few first team reps, isn't giving him only a third this week tantamount to not letting him be fully prepared?

It seems like if you wanted to use McCown, you'd have to give him the bulk of first team reps this week...

Your statement applies to all three QBs, not just McCown. This is complete coaching malpractice.

Yes, but with respect to McCown, not giving him all the reps is tantamount to not being able to start him. It's sort of "not making a decision is a decision" situation.

Shrout and Lewis, while neither appears to be a serviceable P5 QB, at least can and have gone out and started a game.

Not sure my point beyond if you actually were going to go with McCown, you'd have needed to decide earlier and gone all in.

My favorite part is Dorrell lamenting slow starts and not seeing the connection with the weird rotation of QBs.
As you said, it's coaching malpractice and if I'm Josh McCown, I simply can't let my son continue to play for this boob. I know Owen hasn't done anything and wasn't even a highly touted recruit, but he clearly has talent and pedigree, and there's no chance he realizes it under a KD coached team. I honestly can't think of a single thing he has done well over the past 2.5 years.

But it worked so well for tom landry and dan reeves.

edit: that was actually every play, which would be funnier.
I remember that game against the Cowboys, Shaun Moore and Tommy Maddox, I think. The funny part is they damn near won. It had to be what '92 or '93? That **** isn't sustainable. How the **** you supposed to build any rapport with a different QB every damn series?

Great, so our QBs are now getting 1/3rd of the practice.
Instead of calling the plays from the sideline, we can run our plans in with a new QB each play!

Then punt!
Since we'll go 3 and out on every drive that we don't fumble / throw an int, this equates to a perfect distribution of plays. No QB can complain he didn't get enough reps.

What if we find ourselves in a 4th and 1 situation?

Yep, 92, when Elway missed 4 games. They did it the next week against buffalo too.

Let's just hope UCLA don't bring the 2,000 fans that watched them in the Rose Bowl last weekend.
To be fair (as I’ve mentioned here before—I live a few miles from the Rose Bowl), UCLA home games are the worst stadium experience I’ve ever been to. It’s uncomfortably bad. Their “cheer traditions,” or “yell leaders” I think they are called, are so stupidly annoying that no one follows along and just tries to ignore them. The Rose Bowl is awful, too: rows of seats are so painfully close together, I had to sit either cockeyed or with a wide man-spread.

Maybe UCLA fans show up at CU to just be able to actually enjoy a live game. They could dominate the colors in the stadium without a ton of effort based on the creep of fan malaise our team is inspiring.

I feel like this week could be one big support group when UCLA comes to town. In the past, they’ve been where we’re at now.
