2023 NCAA Tourn. Thread-6 seed//20 ranked WOMEN'S Bball (Sweet 16 game in Seattle vs. 2 seed/ 3 ranked Iowa; Friday, Mar. 24th, 5:30 PM MT; ESPN)

From Iowa 247 site - bulletin board material:

Colorado looks like a team Iowa should beat. 6 of their 8 losses were by double digits in regulation. They also took an L to a Texas Tech team that ISU blew out twice.

Colorado is not a good 3 point shooting team. They have 1 starter above 36%, while Iowa has 4 starters above 38%. They're ranked #196 in made 3s while Iowa is #11. They have a couple tall posts but their starting center looks like a plodder. Czinano struggles more against athletic lanky posts. I think she can get this one in some foul trouble.

I watched the entire game. Colorado missed a lot of easy lay ups. Their 3 point shooting looked so-so. I doubt anyone on the Colorado team will slow down Caitlin very much. Dukes defense looked better than Georgia's. Glad we play Colorado. Granted there is no easy game going forward. But we do match up well with Colorado. Also, a lot of energy was expended by both teams in the overtime win.

First of all, that overtime energy won't matter in 4 days rest and recoup. Secondly, I'll take 36% + a team that refuses to quit. Should be fun

More bulletin board disrespect

Add this to the huge chip already on their shoulders.

I think whoever wrote that on the Iowa 247 site is forgetting one guard named Jaylyn Sherrod. Clark gets in to heated exchanges with mostly officials and has gotten several technical fouls because she never fouls but always gets fouled. I love watching her play but if Jay can get her frustrated, that can be to our advantage.

Center is a plodder? Write that on the bulletin board right now and keep it there.

Some tweets from a Duke fan who writes for blog (Her Hoop Stats} from last night.

Fantastic win! Way to beat that damn Duke program and their worthless fans :)

Happy for the team, and happy for you all on the board that are loyal fans of the program. It's been a long time and glad you all get to enjoy some success again. Cheers everyone!

I bet the writer never watched our L to the TT. That was the worst officiated game I have ever seen. I rarely blame anything on refs, but that game was outrageous.

Hope y'all are ready to hate Caitlyn Clark as much as the rest ofvthe Midwest does. Both because she's really good and because shes a LeBron level whiner.

I live in Iowa. Caitlyn Clark is the best player in the country. I try to watch all of Iowa's games. If CU doesn't beat Iowa, which I think they can because Iowa doesn't play good defense, I will be an Iowa fan the rest of the way.

I'm so happy to see the dreams of the Buff players coming true. No one believes in them and hardly anyone except for Buff fans believe they can beat Iowa. I know our players enjoy being the underdog and I do believe Iowa can be beaten, especially at a neutral site.

CC is gonna get hers most likely, she's scores like a mofo, hell of a player. Thing is, and I'm not saying don't pay attention to her, don't let the ladies around her kick your ass too. Try to limit her some and D the **** up on people that aren't supposed to beat you, don't let any of them become the lady Brady Heslip or whatever the hell his name was.

And, with Brian Howell once more on the road with the team, and Pat Rooney also writing some content, quite a bit of Buffzone content already available for tomorrow's game: -

Going back to the Duke win, a couple of observations:

• CU went into a zone because both Jaylyn Sherrod and Aaronette Vonleh were in foul trouble. I would guess we won't see it v Iowa unless there are a lot of starters in foul trouble.

• For the second game in a row, Brianna McLeod gave solid minutes off the bench. She held her own.

SEATTLE – Colorado's whirlwind week continues with a Sweet Sixteen matchup against No. 3 ranked and second-seeded Iowa on Friday (5:30 p.m. MT/ESPN). The Buffaloes will be looking to secure their first Elite Eight appearance since 2002.

The Buffs have been in three different time zones in the span of 72 hours.

CU (25-8) started the week with a thrilling 61-53 overtime win over third-seeded Duke in Durham, N.C. The Buffs flew back to Colorado on Tuesday and had a quick layover in Boulder before packing back up and jetting off to Seattle on Wednesday.

"This week has definitely been a whirlwind," head coach JR Payne explained. "We played such a late game [on Monday]. I think we tipped off at 9 p.m. in Durham. We were up really late, of course, that night and then flew back the next day. It was maybe about 24 hours later we were already back on the plane to come West."

"It was definitely just a quick turnaround," sophomore Aaronette Vonleh added. "We got home Tuesday morning and we're gone the next afternoon. It was just go home, do laundry, pack your suitcase, and leave kind thing. It's definitely a lot, especially with school and everything, trying to make sure you're getting your assignments done. But it's just an exciting time, so we're just making it work."

The Buffs will be making their seventh Sweet Sixteen appearance when they tip off a Climate Pledge Arena. The path to CU's six previous Sweet Sixteens all started in Boulder. This year's trip is the first time Colorado has advanced this far in the tournament without playing on its home court.

"We have such a storied tradition of success," Payne said of the team's history. "Ceal Barry was our coach and [went to] many Sweet 16s, several Elite 8s, and things like that. We knew that the potential was here, although it had been a long time since we had been on this stage. We believed in our ability to recruit the right type of players that could thrive at Colorado and it's been definitely a challenge in seven years to recruit and work and grind and it's just been a long road. We knew that the potential was there, so we're incredibly proud to have been able to build it into this type of team."

The Buffs have been tabbed as somewhat of a surprise team in this year's tournament by some of the nation's "experts." Many of the prognosticators had Middle Tennessee, the 11th seed, beating CU in the first round and then the Buffs were heavy underdogs to Duke on its home court.

While it's unusual to have a Power 5 school designated as a Cinderella story, it's something the Buffs have embraced all season long.

"I think we could play anyone and we would feel that way, just because it's so in our DNA to just focus on what we need to do to be successful," Payne expressed. "We do that in our pre-season training. We do it throughout our pre-season games. We're really big on identifying our roles, how can I help us be successful, and kind of lock into those. We revisit those throughout the year."

For Colorado, it's not been an us vs them match-up. This season has all been about focusing on the team from the inside and making sure the Buffs believe in themselves more than anything.

"I think that's what this program is built on," junior Frida Formann said about the team's mentality. "It's just getting players who really want to work hard. Coach always tells us we don't get the No. 1 recruits or whatever and we don't need that either because we have that mentality of will over skill and we're going to work hard and we're going to stay together. I think that's very, very valuable. Basketball's a team sport, so you need to build a great team, and I think that's what we've done.

"We're never going to wilt. We're never going to back down from anything. I think that's our X factor, having no fear and going out there and playing hard."

A win on Friday and the Buffs will draw the winner of Louisville vs Ole Miss on Sunday.

Cory Lopez and Carol Callan will have the call from courtside on Friday. Their coverage starts at 5 p.m. MT on 850 KOA and 94.1 FM.

Westwood One will have the radio broadcast nationally with Krista Blunk and Matt Chazanow online at WestwoodOneSports.com/Seattle, Sirius 136 and XM 204.

Pam Ward, Stephanie White and Holly Rowe will be on the ESPN broadcast.

My guess is that CU's strategy will be to force Iowa to run the shot clock to get a decent shot which will presumably take the Hawkeyes out of their comfort zone. With the ball, CU will be glad to score early in the shot clock should Iowa be lax in defending. They're more comfortable not having to run a lot of clock to get a good shot. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out Friday night.

Also, rebounding. CU has been consistently good this season and like the first two NCAA games they must limit Iowa's second chances.

Tayanna Jones will most likely get the job of guarding Caitlin Clark as she is athletic and long. She'll need to stay out of foul trouble as I am not sure anyone else on the roster has those attributes.

Hopefully Quay Miller's shooting slump is gone. Without her first quarter scoring, the Duke game would have been a real challenge to win.

I don't have the level of Iowa experience that buffgal does, but I do have an emotional attachment to the state and girls/women's basketball. Grandparents, aunt and uncle, etc., were born and raised in Iowa and I have heard stories about 3 v 3 girls basketball. My grandfather (football), mother and one sister went to college at Grinnell. I was at the Knapp Center for the Georgia game and watched Linda Lappe play a game in the state tourney. Boy does the Girl's state tourney get a lot of attention! Nothing like it in Colorado.

In almost any other circumstance I would be rooting for thee Hawkeyes (or Bulldogs, Cyclones and Panthers.)

Clark will shoot as soon as she hits the logo bringing the ball up. If we can get her to score 40, they tend to lose and Clark and Bluder know it. That means she isn't getting assists and she can't beat teams by herself.

An injured player will be returning tonight. She is Cziano's backup and quite good.

Iowa really is not good on defense. We have to stay out of foul trouble. Iowa doesn't like playing against defenses like ours. If it's close, I am always concerned about our free throw shooting. Yes, I have watched most of the Iowa games this year and I am a big Caitlin Clark fan.

Saw another re-ranking of the 16 teams. Utah is #15 and Colorado is #16. I hope UCLA, Utah and Colorado all prove the ESPN writers wrong.

The PAC, the media, the voters in the polls nor ESPN have given us any respect this season. I hope we show them we earned respect.
