CU has rejoined the Big 12 and broken college football - talking out asses continues

I f****** hate the term four corners. Iā€™ve never heard of this term until July 2022 and to me it stands for second class citizen in the P12. Puts us with a basketball school, a glorified community college and former MW school. Itā€™s code for ā€œgo to the B12 alreadyā€.

Iā€™m not saying thatā€™s what you meant just ranting on that term.
I specifically remember that from 3rd grade

Thereā€™s a scene in the movie Vacation (2015) where they decide to have sex on the 4 corners. Turns out, everyone and their mother has the same idea so they have to wait their turn. Cops from each of the states show up and have a stand off as to who has jurisdiction.

Matt Brown who writes a blog on college football did a FOIA request on the Big Ten in 1990 related to realignment. This is what he wrote back to me when I asked if CU was in there. Kind of surprising given we just played ND for the title. Has anyone ever sent in a CORA (our version of FOIA it seems)request to the CU system?

SDSU coach making g good points.
For sure. It was mostly the LA schools that blocked SDSU. But the AZ schools also weren't fans since they saw SD as their recruiting grounds and Cal opposed due to UC vs CS system politics.

sdsu and smu to the pac. pac tv deal better than the truck stop 12. combo of ESPN and amazon.

so it is written and so it shall be done and quit ****ing worrying.

Let me rephrase for the record (need the court stenographer this is important). Iā€™ve never heard of these four schools being called 4Cs before the realignment s*** went down. Geographically speaking, yes Iā€™ve heard of it before. Football wise, no, never heard us referred to that way with those other 3 schools. Have you? Has anyone?
I agree with @Victory . I've never heard that term used in this context before. It's stupid , non-associative and almost a pejorative. And especially when no NM school is involved; can't have a 4Corner discussion grouping without a fourth state involved. Why are the four schools grouped like that when all they do is share a corner.

Good lord. Are people actually taking offense to a term thatā€™s used to group four schools together in an easy way so that everybody immediately knows who theyā€™re referring to?

itā€™s a simple, non pejorative yet descriptive term. I highly doubt folks at UNM are all that bent out of shape because they arenā€™t included.

Would you feel better if we were described as the MTZ schools or non-coastal schools or something else?

I will agree that there's a bit of old, traditionalist, arrogant pejorative applied by some Pac folks to any member that wasn't part of the Pac-8.

Well, two of those PAC 8 schools just told the rest of the conference to **** off, so.

I donā€™t like it because itā€™s exclusively used to describe us + other schools going to the B12. No one has or will ever say ā€œfour corners to the Big Tenā€. Personally, I donā€™t always want Colorado associated with Arizona, ASU. They are clearly the second class citizens of the P12 and they are hot for the B12. Utah is fine. I ripped on them in my original post but I not in a serious way. Utah has conducted themselves fairly well during all of this and hasnā€™t put out any B12 vibes.

Edit: Weā€™ve been in the P12 for over 10 years and this phrase hasnā€™t been used once until Jun 30, 2022. Itā€™s a B12 realignment term as far as college athletics is concerned.

*And again, I have heard of the term before all this from a geographical perspective. I might need to add that as a disclaimer underneath all posts (such is the cost of typing too fast).

Sometimes I feel like Tucson is in NM.

And the B1G gonna be like, ā€œdo you even go here?ā€
It is amazing that one president and AD can set a school and conference towards disaster that is years off in the making.

I was reading quotes from Bruce Benson when we joined P12 saying ā€œno way Texas and Oklahoma should join. We donā€™t want to form an east division. Iā€™ll fight it hardā€. I understand where he was coming from but jfc Bruce way to screw up the long game. He couldnā€™t see the big board at the time.

I have typed, edited and deleted several replies. Let's just say that I question what Benson was capable of understanding and leading on, but this was earlier in his tenure so it may have legitimately been his own opinion.

if ucla and usc don't shank everyone on their way out, this opinion might have been fine.

What if USC and UCLA are doing the same thing Benson and CU did to the Texas B12 teams in 2010.

Basically, f the P12, I donā€™t want any of them to join the B1G, itā€™s mine all mine.

This is going to screw them, I just donā€™t know how. Probably travel related and there wonā€™t be any regional teams willing to sign up for it for any amount of money. Or the actual money isnā€™t what they thought bc itā€™s being eaten by travel and other expenses.

Edit: Iā€™m saying Benson bc he was on record. But itā€™s likely Benson and Bohn who voiced not allowing the Texas schools and we all know who is at the center of this with USC - Mike Bohn. Again.

I seriously thought this thread had hit the bottom...and then geography smack reared its ugly head.
ā€œThe mountain time zone states largely present clean lines and right angles, versus the squiggly-ass mess that West Virginia throws out thereā€¦ā€

Geography smack.

Itā€™s funny bc it looks so obvious now (add Texas et al) but back then Benson probably sounded like he had a good plan. Itā€™s also why I believe a lot of presidents in the same seats (not Saliman but other P12 schools) might not have good foresight when it comes to the B12.

I strongly suspect that on the next cycle, ESPN and Fox will say weā€™re investing more into the B1G, SEC and possibly (hopefully) an ACC/P12 combo. So, B12, youā€™re now getting $25M per school. Or $20M. We studied the ratings and thatā€™s what youā€™re worth. What recourse do they have? None. No options. The chances Yormark is still there next cycle is slim.

Iā€™d say this is more likely than the networks not investing more into the B1G and SEC.

Anyway, slow news week.
