COACH PRIME SIGNS 5 YEAR EXTENSION

Prime's Buyout Clause to leave:

$12,000,000, if terminated on or before December 31, 2025;
$10,000,000, if terminated on or before December 31, 2026;
$6,000,000, if terminated on or before December 31, 2027;
$4,000,000, if terminated on or before December 31, 2028;
$3,000,000, if terminated on or before December 31, 2029.
the buyouts for 28 and 29 are a bit low IMHO but maybe that's normal ??

Per Scott Procter.
He's generating money and publicity for the University that justifies it.

That also is not going to be close to the top 5 in a couple of years.

These things are like QB salaries in the NFL. Whatever is the top right now is going to be well down the list as the next group of guys comes up and uses this as the reference point.

He won’t get to 2028 under the terms of this contract no matter what happens.
Correct. All this contract does is say that if the administration of the University gets stupid over the next few years Prime is guaranteed a bunch of money for the next 5 years.

I don’t understand this need by multiple posters to not acknowledge the major role that Saliman played in this? We would have Mendenhall if it weren’t for him.
I think most of us don't have knowledge of the role Saliman played in the hire or extension. We've only read speculation on message boards and what not.

However, most of us do know those are responsibilities of the AD.

Just did some spot checking and for comparison:

If Dabo was to leave this year for another coaching role, the buyout is $60 million.

If Kirby was to leave this year for another coaching role, the buyout is $118 million.

Prime’s buyout numbers are comically low for the 4th highest paid coach in the country. I’m sure part of that is at his request. But there are better ways to structure this than blanket buyout numbers.

E.g. 80% of remaining contract after year 1, 70% after year 2, etc. IF he takes another college coaching role.

Maybe lower numbers if he takes a pro role because I find that highly unlikely.

Even lower if he leaves coaching and wants to do something else, on his own accord.

CU buyout language strikes again. Hopefully, we don’t get bit in the ass this time.

Buyout is too low, he will be coaching whatever NFL team drafts S2 next year, too friendly to Coach Prime.

It was just lowkey stuff - but it is always weird to me that the local media doesn't celebrate stuff like this more
I think most folks here want Prime for the remainder of his coaching life. However, if he is able to continue to elevate the program over the course of the next two years, at the rate he has the done the past two years, if he is not here in 2027, the program will be in exceptional shape and should be able to bring in a very good coach.

Also, how long will RG be the AD? Not sure Prime wants to be here without RG. There may be something to that 2027 contract offer so low.

Worries for another day - today is a great day and this should accelerate recruiting.

Again, the only buyout numbers I’ve seen here have been what the school owes him if he’s terminated. Can someone please post the buyout numbers that he owes the school if he leaves voluntarily

I just don't care about the buyout. Prime is a unique beast and absolutely is going to want the flexibility to move whenever he wants. I thought he would leave after last season, so any additional seasons with him is gravy to me!
