Shedeur Sanders - 2023-25 Tracking History Thread

Poor guy.

I think the Steelers really want him, and it’d be a way better landing spot than the dysfunctional af Giants.
I don't think SS2 falls past the Saints (assuming they don't decide to move up for him). Carr's out for 2025, so them grabbing a QB isn't a bad thing.

I’ve seen that the Steelers aren’t averse to trading up, but I doubt they would trade all the way up to 3.

Steelers are usually very conservative. They invest a lot in their scouting department and trust their evaluations, generally keeping their picks and only making minor trades (such as really liking someone and moving up 10 spots in the 4th to make sure they get him). But for a franchise QB, maybe they're willing to break script. 🤷

Feels to me like the Giants would like to take Shedeur but both HC and GM are on a very hot seat and you have two competent veteran QBs on the roster already. Might need to make a pick or two on guys who can help this year.

This can’t possibly be true, but ESPN wankers are saying the Giants aren’t talking to SS2 about the 3 pick, but in case he drops to the bottom of the first round and they might want to trade back in for him.

I think whichever team gets Travis between the Browns and Giants (assuming one of them take him) has that scenario on their mind. I think they would love to pair those two for the next 10 years if possible, but obviously the only way it happens is by taking Travis early and hoping Shedeur drops past 9

Agree with this.

It may be that the Giants wouldn't mind taking Shedeur but by putting it out there that they are very interested in him want to push somebody else (Saints, Raiders, Steelers, ???) into making them one of those franchise moving trade offers that they can't resist.

Past history says that moving up into the top 5 involves a bunch of draft capital. When the Niner's traded up for Trey Lance to get the 3rd pick they gave up 3 1st rounders (including the #12 that year) plus a 3rd. Lance had many more questions coming out of college than Shedeur has since he played at lower level. At the time a lot of scouts thought that Justin Fields or Mac Jones were better picks. So far none of them has panned out as legit franchise type starters.

Pesimistic side for Giants fans though says that the Giants braintrust can screw up multiple draft choices as well as they can screw up one high one.

I just don’t get this narrative that NFL reporters always push before the draft that this QB or that QB is going to slide a long way down. Everyone was saying Nix was going to be an early second round pick. Even if Denver didn’t grab him, someone else would have. QBs are too valuable, maybe you can say overvalued, but we see this nonsense every year.

Hard to say a position is overvalued when you can't win without at least solid game management and ability to execute opportunities from the position even when the rest of your team is better than your opponent. Ask Steelers fans about the last decade or Broncos fans about the years between Manning and Nix.

Again, situation always matters. Thing is, dude has been around greatness his whole life. No, he doesn't have an Elway arm, but he's accurate, efficient, and sees, knows the game. Somebody is gonna get lucky to get him.

Shedeur led Colorado to a 4-8 and 9-3 win season with a blowout loss in the Alamo Bowl. Definitely number retirement worthy.

Kordell, on the other hand, only an 11, 9 and 8 win season while going 2-1 in bowl games? Just doesn't do it for me.

Everything i'm hearing is that S2 is moving down the boards and maybe even out of the 1st round . Which would be great sadness

I have learned to not buy anything speculated about the Sanders family when there is a narrative which can pull eyeballs and draw clicks. I just get my popcorn out, enjoy the theater, and wait for the satisfying conclusion.

Why is it Shedeur/Prime’s fault that CU hasn’t done a great job honoring its former greats? Unrelated situations.

I think both can be true, but yes, not honoring Kordell properly shouldn’t be considered in whether or not to honor any other CU QB.

I envision this kind of thing becoming more common at most programs going forward. It’s all about making special players feel special.

I could see CU “retiring” many numbers but still allowing players to wear some of them based on who the coach and AD are and getting official permission from said player or players families. Just like Mel Tucker unretired/got permission to use 24 again (and now Hodge went through the Whizzer Whites family to get permission to wear it), I think retiring a number will mostly be ceremonious and not some kind of actual retirement of the number where nobody can ever wear it again.

Of course, 2 & 12 will never be worn at CU again as long as Prime is here, but I’d be willing to bet they will both be worn again in the future.

Like with Whizzer’s number, 12 & 19 should be out of the rotation unless there are special circumstances.

Not even the same fvcking situation. CU was loaded back then.

Listen, as a Bears fan I want to live in an alternate universe where Jim McMahon can be QB1 of the greatest team of all time, and Kyle Orton can lead your team to the playoffs as a rookie with a sub 50% completion rate, Jim Miller is good enough to win the division, and Rex Grossman can get you to the Super Bowl.

Agree with this.

All you need is someone like Paul George to trade and you can stack your deck for over a decade. Amiright?

From the Buffzone:

"In 1998, in fact, CU made the decision to no longer retire numbers. Instead, the department chose to have “honored jerseys” for all sports. That year, 15 football greats had their name and jersey number displayed on the west side of Folsom Field. Since then, 13 others have joined them.

CU came up with criteria for honored jerseys, including those who win major national awards, unanimous All-Americans and those who had certain all-conference recognition, including conference player of the year distinctions.

Tackle Nate Solder (2006-10) was the last player to have his jersey honored at Folsom, with a ceremony during the 2011 spring game. Shedeur and Hunter are CU’s most decorated players since Solder."
