Always thought he was clunky, but late bloomer like D White. Happy for him
It's a damn weak draft. No shade to Nique because he worked his ass off and got better since he left here, but yeah...

That said, I am a moron so I could have this completely wrong.
Or it could be one of those drafts where the scouts and media aren't sure what they are looking at. A lot of prospects in this draft who are hard to get a good take on.
Dominique is one of those. Is he the guy who balled out and dominated games in the MWC last year and carried his team in the tourney or is the guy who struggled to consistently contribute for Colorado against better competition?
The people who say it is a deep draft can make good arguments but so can those who see a lot of question marks. The number of guys who are coming from outside the US and haven't been seem a lot against known competition adds to this, but also creates some real opportunity to find quality players outside of the lottery picks.

I think the biggest thing for Nique is if his 3 point shot will translate. shot 37% the last two years at CSU after 28% in his last year with the buffs. Will need that in the NBA. From an athleticism perspective that's always been there and his rebounding numbers really jump off the page. He was 14th in the nation in rebounds per game as a 6'6 guard and that normally translates.

Thanks for the AI answer. Most GMs are freaked that the talent is sparse after the Top 2-3. There are some straight up bums projected to go in the first 20.
I know heading into last year's draft it was much higher. And it is much higher at the top - no one argues that. But it seems like there's a bit of a drop off. The talk with Cody was he had to go pro last year because he would be a top 5-10 pick. This year he'd probably be around 15. Which is a drop but not as far as some of us (myself) thought he would drop if he came back - which was around 25.
I think this draft could be as good as 2011 (Kyrie, Klay, Kawhi, Butler, etc). But like that year, it's a scary one for GMs because they don't know if there's better value at 30 (Butler) than in the late lottery (Jimmer Fredette). I think we have a lot of talent but an absolute crap shoot.

There’s a lot of talent, but the NBA continues to over rely on projection instead of production.
Like you said about Roddy. Better college player by orders of magnitude than Nique, but Nique’s athletic profile is much better than Roddy’s.
Granted, you’d think that athletic profile wouldn’t be as enticing when a guy has been in college for five years already.

Hats off for Nique for coming back and getting drafted. He seemed to have lost his confidence here but he always worked hard when I was watching. Kid is very deserving and I hope he has a long NBA career.
I think Nique has good tools and skills for where he was drafted. He's really good sized for an NBA 2. He can guard, rebound and dribble. His pick and roll usage sky-rocketed at CSU. Assuming his 3 ball doesn't crater, he's on the path to being a really versatile player who can't get played off the floor in a playoff game. Even if he's never somebody's first or second leading scorer, that's pretty valuable.

Work hard, get better, take in coaching (both his college coaches are good developers)

Crazy Duke had their entire starting 5 drafted
Sometimes the best team doesn't win the Dance. That comeback win by Houston is underrated right now but we'll look back at it as historic.
Like when UNC had Jamison and Carter both drafted top 5 but they didn't make it to Monday night in either '97 or '98
Shvt, I think 3 of them were in the top 10. That's like Kentucky with Calipari.
Sometimes the talent is enough but basketball is still a team game and it is still a game of fundamentals.
We keep seeing these super teams of 5* recruits fall short while teams that are still highly talented but not to the same level succeed with a core of players who are in the system for multiple years and each plays his role helping the team win.
Not the case with this year's Duke team. They had great chemistry.
Don't know about great chemisty but they were a very good team with the kind of players that allow for great chemistry, highly talented but team first guys. Lost close in the final four in a close game but lost to a team that had two players in their 5th years and one in his 4th providing 53 of their 70 points. None of these three were drafted.
Again the Duke team had better chemistry than most of these teams put together from one and done talent but they still ended up losing to a team that it is easy to argue was much less talented.
The eventual champion Florida did have three players picked but the first one was the 18th pick, two were seniors, one was a 5th year senior. Again easy to argue less talented than Duke.
