Didn't perceive that to be your joke.
did you not think I would know what your answer would be when I posted it?
Saying that a head coach who went 11-2 and 12-1 is barely qualified to be a coordinator at UT comes off as racist when he happens to be black. My money is on McCombs simply being butt hurt at being left out of the process.
I agree. I think he was hurt at not having any influence in the hire. I also agree that his comments were beyond ridiculous, which is why many (including me) suspect that racism is at least a factor. He either knows nothing about Strong's resume or simply doesn't care. I listened to the audio and he essentially said that Strong would be a good position coach and MAYBE a good coordinator. That's absurd. Strong was the D-coordinator on two national championship teams. Sure he benefited from having Urban Meyer as head coach, but he has clearly shown that he's a good coordinator. That's not even considering his success at Louisville, which speaks for itself. His only real blemish at Louisville was losing to UCF this year in a game Louisville should have won. Then again, the loss was mainly caused by turnovers and other errors that have little to do with coaching. Also, UCF was a good team this year. Just to prove how absurd McCombs' statements were though, he claimed that if UT had hired Gruden they would have won 5 titles.Saying that a head coach who went 11-2 and 12-1 is barely qualified to be a coordinator at UT comes off as racist when he happens to be black. I'm curious, if this had happened with a big booster at Michigan, would everyone be so quick to assume racism?
I think I would. I don't think of Austin as a hotbed of racism.
I agree, however, I feel we may be in the minority. Many on here automatically assume racism on any slight from Texas, or the south in general.
Same. In McCombs defense (if I were his PR guy), he had Denny Green as his coach in Minnesota and he's given millions in scholarship money to minorities. Given all of this, I chalk his comments up to typical Texas dick-swinging and typical Texas-wealth idiocy.I have come out strongly in the past that we retreat to the "racism" charge far too often, to the point of watering down the meaning of the word. And again, I can't claim to know McCombs' thought processes--but based on the ludicrous nature of his remarks, it was the first thing that came to my mind.

and white and read all over?Like many others, I took McCoombs comments as racist. And I am not prone to go there but when he said Strong was not qualified, I don't know what other impression you could have. If he said Strong was not his choice then I could say he was butt hurt but when he claims he is not qualified then I would say he has crossed a line where many will feel his comments were racist.
Here is an article from the Houston Chronicle which sums it up quite well. And yes, the columnist is black.

That's funny stuff.dtf?
Actually, Borges is awful. His offense was predictable and it showed on the field. Michigan fans wanted him gone for years.*tweet*
The end is near for Hoke. People gave Borges a lot of credit for Hoke's success in the first place.
