2015 Coaching Carousel

My brother was supposed to be WR coach his last year, had the job and everything but during the summer Cristensens went on vacation and asked him to watch the house and the dog. Long story short he had to come to my sisters graduation that week and asked another coach to watch Daves house. The dog **** every where in the house and my brother was fired before even signing the paperwork.

If the guy I asked to house sit let my dog **** all over the house, I would fire his ass too. How are you going to coach a position group if you can't effectively let a dog into the yard every couple hours?

Point is christens knew my brother wasn't there that week. Point is he's a jackass.

FLounder thinks someone who holds someone else accountable for a sh**ty job is a jackass...why am I not surprised.

Whittingham takes the Michigan job if Dad Pants decides to stay in the NFL.

That would be another Hoke tenure, with lots of coaches hesistant to join him because of the recent track record and his growing reputation for having assistants bail as soon as they get a lateral opportunity. Whittingham can coach but the Big Ten is out of his wheelhouse. It would be a big adjustment to get them back on track.

BP breaks the big one, Harbaugh to Michigan.

Interesting stuff about Whittingham, sounds like a recipe for disaster, and all the top slots are filled this year. I guess Hill and Whittingham get to dance one more year.

Will be interesting to see who Harbaugh brings in to make up his staff.

Wonder if there's a gentleman's agreement not to poach from Stanford. Greg Roman is Harbaugh's OC currently. It would take some big money doin' to make it happen but those to paired together again at Michigan would start things off with a lot of fanfare and expectations. Oh what the hell, there are going to be plenty of expectations regardless.

The NFL guys are saying Michigan guys will be in the Bay Area this weekend for talks. Raiders have been promised a sit down also.

my gut is that with the prospects of the raiders moving to LA in the near future would prevent him from taking the raiders job

There´s one reason and one reason only for him to take the Raiders job: His family really wants to stay in the Bay Area. Another thing to bear in mind with Harbaugh is that he seems dead set on becoming the highest paid coach in the NFL and that´s one of the reason why he´s fallen out with the Niners as they argue he hasn´t won a Super Bowl yet. 9-10m a year for a coach might scare some people off.

Utah is a school we've battled for recruits... we should be raiding the upper echelons of their class as much as possible. Good opportunity to switch places with them in the P12 South pecking order over the next few years imo....

Cannot believe how much action the carousel has gotten, and the NFL firing season hasn't even started yet.

This thing is about to spin up even more next week.

Very interesting. He was at CU briefly but has been on this side of the country for most of his life. Knows the Front Range very well, if that's in any way beneficial to how he will do at Mines.

Could this be a turning/shuffling point in CFB. A lot of old good teams will fade into mediocrity.

How so? If anything the desire to win is as strong as ever and universities now have enormous budgets that only the elite used to have.

Mac was the first coach to have a 1MM contract and if the harbough rumor is correct at 8MM the relative costs are soaring.

Even CU is trying to win now and is building a major complex. After years of letting things languish.

Ok that was a dig, but all P5 schools at this point have major commitments or plan to soon. Then you also have the also rand like CSU who want to build a new stadium.

Things are following the population and economic shifts. Going to be harder and harder for a program that's not located in a growth state.

Things are following the population and economic shifts. Going to be harder and harder for a program that's not located in a growth state.

This is going to be a big issue in the future in terms of states and regions.

From the 1970 Census, America's 10 largest cities.

The 1970 Census was the Nineteenth.

In 1970 The B1G had the #2 city in the nation in Chicago, #5 in Detroit, and #10 in Cleveland. By 2010 Chicago is still #3 but has shrunk significantly and Detroit and Cleveland are long gone from the list replaced by cities from the West and/or the sunbelt.

Big 10 country used to be prime recruiting grounds, Ohio, Michigan, and other mid-western states were recruiting hotbeds. They still produce some players but many more proportionally come from Texas, California, Florida, etc. The best players no longer look at B1G schools as "the" prime destinations they once were.

I think while the population shift is important, I think another issue is as the power structure has been dispersed, the old blue bloods like those in the B1G have had trouble catching up to the new landscape. Look how they tried to divide their numerically challenged conference into that "legends" and "leaders" bs. How out of touch do you have to be to think that was a good idea? They sat around patting themselves on the back about their tv network while their their teams proceded to get their asses kicked on a regular basis.

Michigan is just the latest B1G school to finally get the attitude adjustment they sorely needed.

I don't think the population shifts have anything to do with 17 & 18 year old's perception of a school being or not being a being a desirable destination. Blowhio st and meatchicken still have exceptional support, great facilities, and a large and rabid fan base. Add the conference network to that mix and you still have attractive schools for young student athletes.

The big can't count conference itself has lost some luster by losing ooc and bowl games. That may be more a result of parity than anything else.
