Colorado finally had its big breakthrough in 2016, but it did it without one of its top defensive players. In Week 2 against Michigan, Derek McCartney returned a fumble for a touchdown to increase the Buffs’ early lead. Later in the first half, however, McCartney tore his ACL, forcing him to watch the Buffs’ march to the Pac-12 South title from the sidelines.

McCartney, the grandson of legendary CU coach Bill McCartney, combined for 104 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks in 2014 and 2015, so he has a history of production for the Buffs. Now healthy after sitting out spring practice and recently named a team captain, McCartney should make some noise in 2017.

Any reason why McCartney didn't get a medical redshirt?
He did. He played part of the season and was granted a medical hardship waiver so that 2016 counted as a redshirt season. Otherwise he wouldn't be on the team in 2017.

Ran into Joel Klatt in the Austin airport. Brave man given his recent opinions shared of Uterus. He got me pumped with his optimism for the Buffs!

I'd call it a tie, some great ones at both positions.
Utah game from last year on Pac 12N
Big 12 Championship on as well. I can't believe the stable of RBs that team had. Courtland Johnson, Brown and Purify. Wouldn't mind that group on the squad right now.
Johnson was one of my favorites, loved how he played. Plus, he always gave Nebraska trouble, always a bonus. Also believe it's Cortlen, didn't look it up though.
