2017 Season Hype/Countdown Thread

What did Darrel Royal say? "There are three things that can happen when you pass, and two of them are bad." To be a championship type of team, you have to be able to run. Not only that, teams that can run have a tougher mentality.
I believe that's a Woody Hayes quote.

- Washington State averaged 51 passing attempts/game
- Clemson averaged 42 passing attempts/game
- USC averaged 36/game
- Okie State averaged 36/game
- A&M averaged 35/game
- Ohio State averaged 32/game
- Florida State averaged 32/game

On the flip side...
- Wisconsin - 23/game
- Stanford - 24/game
- LSU - 25/game
- Alabama - 28/game
- Michigan - 29/game
- OU/UW/Utah/UGA - 30/game

Seems pretty varied to me, in terms of the successful teams, and just because you throw a lot doesn't mean you don't run the ball a lot.

I'd put the over/under at 35. Nice research, btw.

Why not both? Offenses like this get A LOT of possession. Lots of opportunities to strike in multiple ways.

Isn't the same true for running the ball? You can fumble, the play can result in no gain or loss of yards, or you can have a positive play.

What am I missing, because I've always thought that was one of the dumbest coach quotes of all time.

That quote was also from a long time ago when teams just didn't pass much. The game has evolved a long ways since then and is really irrelevant in today's football.

Plus, the high percentage, quick passing game in an offense like CU's (bubble, hitches, swing, screens, quick slants, etc) is really just an extension of the run game in most offensive coaches eyes, anyways. So when I say 35-40 attempts per game, I think 10-15 of those (maybe even more) are of that variety that don't usually stop the clock or go incomplete, effectively making them the same thing as a run.

I hate that I couldn't pick us for a huge upset against either UW or USC. I'm imagining the hype if we go into that 3-0.

Shut the hell up and stop mocking me!!

I sometimes forget how solid Bobo is getting into and out of breaks as well as with how difficult he is to tackle after a catch. His highlight reel catches overshadow how good he is in other ways. Also our best blocking WR, though that's not shown in this short vid.

And don't sleep on that throw to Phil. Bobo barely had time to set his feet, but that throw was right on the money, hitting Phil right in stride.

Kinney make a play, we need it at that position, Poplowski or whatever his name is as well. If they can threaten every area of the field, it'll open up and we'll get matchups we want. Bonus is, running game would be great in that scenario. Engage and let the back get into it. Keep hands on though, no bull****. If they can do both, look out.

I'll just leave this here...

1. Colorado over Washington, Sept. 23

Despite being picked to finish fourth in the South in the preseason media poll, the defending divisional champion returns an outstanding offensive core, including multi-dimensional running back Phillip Lindsay and one of the best wide receiving corps in the nation. Washington is undergoing considerable change in the secondary, so seeing that unit early in the season should be a boon for the Buffs.

So, too, is drawing the Huskies at home. This game bears several significant similarities to Washington's early-season trip to Arizona a season ago, when the Wildcats took the Huskies to overtime. The difference? This Colorado bunch is significantly better than 2016 Arizona.

So fun to watch.

That game is going to be so much fun to watch! Cannot wait and hope for a later kick off so we can get a real tailgate on in lot 169!
