2018 Defense

My mistake, Roberts might be in the 2 deep for Spring practices as we don't have everyone here yet:
0 - Sami/Tuiloma/Edwards
3 - Franke/Johnson
5 - Mulumba/Lang/Roberts

Sami probably will redshirt if possible. IMHO If they just wanted to have him sit a year they would have brought him in last year and had him coached and get in shape and play this year. Grayshirting him and not redshirting him makes no sense to me.

I’d bet it’s updated as of the 2017 season, so it’s not that far off. He didn’t magically gain 30 lbs in the last two months

I have noticed they never update the weights until fall (from what I recollect). I review the roster at least once a month. I have to refresh my old memory.

They had Roberts at 240 until last fall.

If Sami has any work ethic at all I think he is a hands down starter in 2019. From what I see and hear, he is the most athletically gifted DL we have had in some years...but he isnt a 0. He is an oversized 5 and that's what I think makes him interesting.

True, but he's still available for Spring. Practicing won't affect his RS.

In D front 7 i think it's gonna be hard to determine who red shirts till we see how competition in Spring summer and fall go, and how it shakes out.

I don't think Ryan gets drafted but he is a much better athlete than many give him credit for.

If he gets with the right team that doesn't expect him to do a lot of individual coverage on WRs in space he could become a quality NFL safety. From day one he would be a big contributor on coverage teams, enough for a team to keep him around as a special teams specialist. (Not unlike what the Broncos did with David Bruton)

Of course not. It is one obtuse metric, where he benefits from our scheme.

Still cool, though.

Exactly this. Listed as a "safety" but played the equivalent of "OLB" in our system. Of course he was in on more run stops in the box than safeties were.

Does Kevin George emerge as an option at safety this Spring?
We need one of the young corners to switch positions for depth, I think. Him or Rakestraw, probably. They're both over 6''1 190, so why not give it a try,

I like having safeties with corner experience. With modern college football using multiple WRs offenses often are able to force a safety into coverage one on one.

Pretty sure I read that Kevin George was going to be tried out at safety or that he had been practicing there. His HS bio says that he only played corner his senior year and had played safety up to that point. That plus his size and our need seems like a good connection, but outside logic doesn't always hold true.
