2018 Rocky Mountain Showdown (8/31)

Good grade grad transfer for the goats.

I realize they are coming off what is supposedly their best recruiting class ever (is that true??) - but they lost A LOT on offense, and their defense seems pretty bad as well (although they have a new D coordinator). What am I missing here?

They get a warmup the week before and we are likely going to be starting three new players on the OL.

CFN has their season preview for CSU up, ranking them #89 (they have us #54).

The Rams lose QB Nick Stevens, WR Michael Gallup, and three strong starters on the O line. In all, eight starters are gone from the attack. Three starters are gone from the defensive line and seven starters in all are done on the defensive side.

Average o line okay would equal a 24 point victory IMO, but we all know how that can limit things. Pretty embarrassing we couldn’t run it down their throat last year.

12 out of 22 starters gone including their best player and QB going against a team that outclasses them at every position anyways, so yeah, guaranteed win.

It should be a guaranteed win every year, especially this year but it is also a strange series where CSU often plays over their heads and the Buffs have sometimes not shown up resulting in embarrassing losses.

It seems like Mac understands that and we haven't been seeing the bad games that we saw under some prior coaches but I still worry until proven otherwise.

Exactly what else would prove it to you then? You just stated it.

I am worrying less with Mac than I did before but we are still not good enough to simply mail in a game like this one. Until we are I will always be aware of the potential, and hope the team is as well

That's kind of a terrible list they put together. They basically listed all the G5, then list all the P5 with very little overlap between the two group. Heck their worst P5 was #80 Kansas. No way there are 50 G5 teams worse than Kansas.

Good point. I don't think it's possible for Dan to coach that many teams at once.

I think this list is a little better top to bottom. They have lil bro at 87 and CU at 71.

Worth noting that CU is listed at the bottom as about a two point favorite in the RMS with an S+P projection of 89. Sounds about right, though his system doesn't take JuCos or transfers into account very well. I would say his system underrates CU, but I thought that last year and we fought hard to prove it right

Bill C's preview of the rams is up. Man does this team lose a lot.

On the defensive side:
Jancek will be overseeing a move from a 3-4 to a 4-3, but it appears the personnel can handle such a move. End Arjay Jean could thrive, and at 6’4, 245, it appears sophomore OLB Emmanuel Jones could make an easy transition to DE. The tackles were awfully undersized for a 3-4 structure, and DTs like junior Richard King and sophomore Ellison Hubbard could be more suited to Jancek’s system.

Still waiting for the FBI to wrap up the investigation on that one.
I BELIEVE THE REFEREE IS IN PROTECTIVE CUSTODY IN ORDER TO FLIP ON THE REST OF THE CREW. THE HAMMER WILL FALL.*

On the defensive side:
I don't see how the analytics article has us losing to CSU. Even ignoring the obvious of CU having a much, much, much more talented team across the board, what analytics could possibly point to CSU having any kind of advantage in that game?

He's projecting us to win.
