2018 Rocky Mountain Showdown (8/31)

Elevations at Folsom Field (I mean Elevations did used to be the CU Credit Union before the name change).

On a serious note, 37 million for CSU is DAMN good.
It's not really $37 million though. It's $17.7 over 15 years from the credit union and then the other $20 million was private donations from their donors a couple of years ago, which was essentially a cute way to raise money for the stadium and put some signage on the field to show it.

The stadium naming thing can wait a few years, IMO. Wait until the program is in a little better shape from a competitive standpoint. Wait until we are on national TV a lot more. Basically, the naming rights to that stadium aren’t worth much right now.

OK, that makes more sense...I was sitting here thinking "DAMN!"

No it's not... If I'm reading the article correctly it appears to be 37 plus 20 mil

Or the naming rights runs parallel to the Pac-12 media rights deal. I'd say a local company is the most likely to have its naming rights put on the stadium. Even Boise State who has a history of being on ESPN even has a local company on its football stadium and donations to new facility upgrades would most likely be included in the overall cost...much like the Dal Ward Center.

In that case, back to DAMN!!! I went and did some research on my own and CSU did well for itself, especially considering the limited number of people who attend their games and their limited TV exposure.

When you add up CSU's naming rights, the total is impressive.

Field - 20 mill from private donors
Stadium - 37 Mill from Public Service Credit Union
Deck - 4.8 Mill from New Belgium
Field level club - Unknown - Orthopedic Spine Center (A lot of this agreement is in kind services).

Total is going to be well over 62 million dollars which puts them on par with USC's deal with United Airlines (69 million).

Have to hand it to CSU, by splitting this up they did a very VERY good job.

Good in the sense that the mighty Broncos and Mile High is looking for a naming rights deal. Agree with the idea that we need to see maybe 2-3 years of success and the Broncos get their deal done, and then we should be able to get things set up.

SOUTH PARK STUDIOS STADIUM???

I work at Elevations. We are not going to be sponsoring Folsom Field. I can assure you that.
I also have heard Coors is no longer going to be sponsoring the Event Center soon. Makes we wonder aloud
if that's maybe due to a pending deal with Mile High Stadium and the Broncos.

Will there be a Museum of Tolerance too? That could kill the project.

I doubt that, the sponsorship was from the Coors family not the company so them allowing CU to get another sponsor has nothing to do with cash since they weren't paying any. Coors the company owns the rights to Coors Field forever without paying another dime and they will probably want to keep it that way without committing money to somewhere else.

Agreed. CSU AD Joe Parker was the person who did the work for the big Michigan Stadium renovation if I'm not mistaken. Based on what he was able to do there and at CSU, a P5 AD job is going to open up for him eventually unless he knows that CSU will in fact become a P5 school in the not too distant future.

He is doing a good job, but even Moses could not lead CSU to a P5 Conference!!! Never gonna happen in todays day and age.

So the market is pretty much set for the naming rights of The Keg and Folsom Field...mostly for Folsom Field. CSU's stadium naming rights is at about $2.4 million per year. So $3-4M/yr would be a reasonable exception for the Folsom Field naming rights? If it's $4M for 15 years, that's $60M in the bank for the west side renovation which should include the ability to widen the playing field to accommodate soccer, rugby, and lacrosse which leads to more eyeballs on the company name on the stadium. From what I understand, it would be possible to play soccer and lacrosse at CSU's stadium which might have added to the deal plus there has been rumbling of men's lax being added at CSU. So it would all add up.

Plus there might be a reason for that sweet deal at CSU: https://www.pscu.org/about-us/sonny-lubick/

Ha, well good for CSU I guess. Not sure if CSU set the market, but they certainly set a strategy that could lead to greater revenue both at the football stadium and the events center.

Just think of some poor announcer having to say...

Welcome to Covedian Stadium where the CU Buffs will play the Nebraska suck wads on Croc's Folsom field. I see a lot of CU fans are hanging out at Hazel Beverage World's Buffalo Beer Garden and we can hear the rumble of the fans under us grabbing drinks at the Left Hand Beer Garden in Balch field house. CU has been regularly practicing in the CH2M Hill Champions Center in preparation for this game and today the CH2M Hill Champions Center is hosting the Stranahan's drink, punt and pass competition.

Ha ha ha! Would it matter with all those names as long as CU is up to date on facilities?

Why can't CU do a smaller, 2 year deal? Doesn't seem to me that they would need to put a ton of money into the naming thing.

If CU is content with falling behind in the arms race again.
The argument I was countering was that CU should wait a few years until we are more nationally prominent. I say sign a short term contract. Someone will pay by the season to have naming rights.

Any money we don't take is "falling behind"....

The real value in stadium naming rights is the long term name recognition. It takes time before people start to use a corporate name with a stadium, it is then re-enforced over time by repeated usage.

Look at how many people call the Broncos stadium Mile High or call it Invesco. It hasn't been Invesco for years but for a good part of the time that Sports Authority was paying for it people still referred to it as Invesco.

A short term deal on a stadium name has little value to the advertiser and can actually hurt the future value to the next sponsor.
