2019 Buffs Football hype thread

New free Q&A with S&C coach, Drew Wilson:

Drew Wilson is a good interview (and Adam a good interviewer), so what is usually an off-season fluff piece instead has some interesting info.

My takeaways:
  • More football focused meetings this summer than in the past, without sacrificing S&C. A result of better time management.
  • New GPS tech implemented that allows them to push players to their limits and avoid pushing those recovering from injury too hard. I’m sure Tucker learned this and the above point at places like Georgia and Alabama.
  • Laviska doesn’t squat all spring then squats 405 right away this summer (BEAST).
  • Wilson alluded to the fact that under the last staff, he used to be told to get way undersized recruits to playing weight, which was unfeasible (e.g. they’d need to gain 60lbs). Much easier to bring in guys like Austin Williams, who is now at 330 (down 7 lbs already). Wilson thinks he’ll be a special player.

Viska's the one kid I'd like to see the Broncos make a move up/suck for.

Frank Fillip getting up to 290 for the season would be pretty awesome. The possibility of moving Sherman inside would give Kap his best starting 5.
I would be intrigued to see Sherman at LG next to Hambright at LT. Two big and talented dudes anchoring the left side with Lynott at Center. Then you'd have Kutsch, Pursell, Roddick and Ray battling out for RG and the other backup, with Fillip at RT. On paper, that's a pretty studly OL.

290 still seems light.
Yeah, Kap/Tucker obviously wants their oline at 300-310lbs (as they have stated), but he is feasibly 20-25 pounds bigger then last year. Is he big enough now to accomplish what they are wanting to do on the oline and not be a negative due to size? I think the only thing holding Fillip back has been his weight, IMO.

Not sure he is definitively a part of any "best five" just yet. I think that is a year away.

For his frame yes but it would at least allow him to compete.

I'd rather he play a little light with quality weight while he continues to develop and is over 300 next year.

He was much too light last year but I think at 290 he could contribute.

And I agree he isn't one of the best five but he certainly could help providing some depth and get enough time to help his development.

Colorado, Washington, UCLA, and unfortunately USC are the untouchables. As much as I despise USC, they have good looking uniforms because they usually have unbelievable athletes in them, and when you are chiseled, you make the threads look good. Colorado's uniforms will always be epic, especially if we can keep adding the athletes we need.

Utah and Arizona have the most boring uni's by far
