He’d never disclose it, but it would be interesting to get Chev’s insight on what’s behind all the tumult in the program right now

Rice will likely test very well. If he has even decent production he will probably be a Day 2 draft pick

So 2nd or 3rd round,. His draft stock may slip to a day 3 selection. NFL teams pick players based on need. Why would they take a WR with low production in the 2nd round? But guys that test well do get drafted and they will go back to his Colorado tape. Probably a 4th or 5th round pick.

Tim Tebow was drafted in the first round by the Broncos. Played on a loaded Florida team. Was a bust in the NFL. The NFLscouts learn from past mistakes. Well most do, some still make the same mistakes. Why do you think the Alabama QB Jones fell to the 15th pick in the NFL draft? If the Patriots didn't take him. He would have fallen out of the first round.
You say these things like they are facts, when really...

The Big Lebowski Dude GIF

If he doesn’t produce at USC he won’t be thought very highly of in the draft, just like every other player who doesn’t produce at any program.

If two players are under consideration. One player from Colorado playing behind a bad OL and the other player at Alabama have the same on field production and test the same. The Colorao player will be rated higher.

Lol- how panicked would you be if you were that dude.

he transferred to this program when it was coming off an Alamo Bowl appearance and looked to have a ton of talent at the skill positions. Then he gets injured, sits out a year, and now has to battle the incumbent for the starting position on an offense that is going to be extremely young. To make matters worse, the offense lost not only the leading rusher, but only returns 3 players who had *any* rushing yards (one of whom is the incumbent QB) and loses 2 of the top 4 pass catchers.

You say this like he was getting tons of production at CU - he was our #1 WR last year and caught 21 balls for 299 yards. That’s not getting anyone’s attention. At least at USC he’ll have a blue chip QB throwing him the ball and he’ll win some games.

And USC is going to blow out a lot of their opponents so even if he doesn’t start he’ll get way more targets there than he would have at CU.

Ya, being starting QB in Boulder would be tough living. Poor guy.

There is no way you are a real person. This is one of your more insane takes. And that is saying something because there is a lot to choose from.

At the risk of being lumped in with hyperbole:

Rice is great, one of the best recruits we've signed that actually made an impact at CU, and against my emotional response and instinct, I completely agree that it was a smart move to transfer. The idea that he should have stayed at CU is slanted through a fanatical filter and completely lacks objectivity.

HOWEVER, transferring to USC doesn't appear to be the best move for Rice. He won't be the #1 and although he is a freak of an athlete, USC is loaded with freak athletes. A smarter move would have been a school like Houston or Boise where B Rice comes in as the #1 to a team with an established passing game.

Rice made the absolute right call. It was both a safer call from a performance standpoint and from a financial standpoint since they are paying him more.

Staying at CU for next year is an insane proposition for any WR who has NFL aspirations in the next year.

Actually NFL scouts downgrade players that are on loaded teams unless you get insane production at skills positions like WR. So if B Rice doesn't get huge production his draft stock will slip. They are more lenient to players on bad teams. B Rice may have made a mistake if he doesn't get playing time. Young players do need to play to get better.
If only there was a recent draft where the number 3 WR at Alabama went higher than any WR at a losing program (and even went higher than the number 1 WR at Alabama).

Agreed. Right decision to leave but to the wrong school. Next year he's WR4. The year after, he'll be lucky to be WR5 and he'll need to fight like hell for that spot because USC always brings in 1-2 top high school WR's. Perhaps there are examples of a team's 5th or 6th wr getting drafted in the early rounds but I can't think of any.

Personally, I thought he was a better return man than wide receiver and they already have a top 10 return man. I hope he does well but I don't think this turns out the way he thinks it will.

I can appreciate this, but I think he could be WR1/2 there. A top 3 of Ford, Rice and Williams is nasty and I think Rice is right there with both of those guys. Either way, he's now in Lincoln Riley's offense and there will be plenty of balls and a very talented QB and playcaller.
