That should be a fun OC search (as it has already started and continues to drag on).
lets hope it ends with a dj eliot type hire instead of a livingston type one

r/utahfootball is more behind this than I thought they'd be. But it appears at least one of them wandered over from Lincoln....

Limbo is never good. Like Mack Brown's last few years at Texas.I don't think that is great news for Utah.
Angry white guys assemble
This is not quite accurate. It's official: NCAA recognizes UCF's national championship in record book
The NCAA has officially recognized UCF's national championship last season in the record book, ending the debate among college football fans.sports.yahoo.com
Haha thanks for the insight, galaxy brain Belichick
I am so hoping this happens. Belichick would be equally out of his depth in college as Urban Meyer was in the NFL.
Yup. Bill B was a good NFL coach would be completely lost in the modern college game. And his mumblecore pressers would have boosters running for the exits.

I assume that plan is for him to take on a role like Elway did with the Broncos while mentoring his son to be the head coach.

The legend of Tulane continues to grow.
It's a bummer the Nubs job isn't open.I assume that plan is for him to take on a role like Elway did with the Broncos while mentoring his son to be the head coach.
Just one problem - Belichick was terrible as a GM and with the draft. He was even worse with player relationships and owner/ executive relationships.
So put him in charge of player personnel, recruiting, and booster engagement of course.
This could be amazing to watch.
Yep, it was a terrible move by him to let everyone know that he is contemplating retirement. He should know betterOkie State wants badly to fire Gundy after his 2nd losing season in 20 years at the helm (and first in 19 years). They hit on two HC hires in a row. They're going to find out how hard it is to hit on three in a row pretty shortly, especially with the disadvantages they face in recruiting these days:
Gundy has almost double the number of top 25 finishes (10 in 20 seasons) as the rest of the coaches in OK St. history COMBINED (6 in 91 seasons).
Lol. UNC's AD had it right- it's way more damaging for a program to get strung out for multiple seasons in a row by a guy whose time is past, so it's best to cut bait as early as possible. Utah about to go in limbo for another 2-3 seasons.
It’s paywalled, but the Athletic out with an article explaining some of the disfunction at UNC and the hiring process. Sounds like there is friction between the AD and the UNC board of trustees, and that they had a little less interest in the job than expected.
A lot of smart coaches fail.I think Belichick has demonstrated he's a fairly intelligent person. Noting his lack of experience in the current college landscape is 100% dead on, but there's no reason to think he doesn't have capacity to learn and adapt.
Certainly possible he fails, but my observation is that smart people often find creative ways to succeed in new situations.
Yes, because people in their 70s are famous for their willingness and ability to learn and adapt to entirely new situations and are by no means stuck in their ways and believe that it's perfectly fine to continue doing things the way they've always been done. People that age also generally show an outstanding ability to relate to younger generations and people like a quarter their age.I think Belichick has demonstrated he's a fairly intelligent person. I would argue that BB was very much unable to learn and adapt once the GOAT QB was no longer on his team.I think Belichick has demonstrated he's a fairly intelligent person. Another problem for UNC is it is a basketball first school. The basketball team is collecting NIL from the same donors as football and at UNC the basketball team will get priority.Interesting. I don't have time to dig through the article now, but what's the source of friction between the board of trustees (which is a pretty ****ed up group at UNC) and the AD?
Also- excepting location, UNC would have been a great fit in the "conference of champions"- plenty of athletic achievement in Olympic sports (especially women's soccer, field hockey, and men's and women's lacrosse), but it leads them to believing that their football program is a better job than it actually is- they're a top 40 program that thinks they're a top 20 program. They have to compete with all the ACC teams nearby and the regional SEC teams for local recruits, are in a secondary conference, and really don't have a strong history of success (anyone under the age of 44 has never seen a UNC conference champion football team). Not surprising there's not much interest.
Looks like UNC is doing it:
I am not surprised that Belichick wants to coach again but I thought he was gonna go for Shula's record in the NFL
