Not if he has further ambitions. If he puts up improved numbers at Purdue in 2 seasons (which is not a huge challenge giving how much they struggled last year) he'll look really good. no matter how good he does at USC as the OC, his success will always be viewed as owed to riley.

He may also be hearing all the rumors around the program and have an idea that if things don't get better fast at SC, Riley will be out and his staff will be looking for new jobs anyways.

As you put it USC is a can't win for him, Purdue on the other hand is almost a can't lose. He is well enough known in the profession that he can always get a job, do well at Purdure and it can elevate him to a better job.

plus, as OC, while Purdue is a tough hill to climb in B10, you aren't on the mat for wins and losses.....just stats and getting good qb play.

That reads like the Hogs know they're a second tier SEC team at best, and they just want some stability.
